Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Ironsights would be great but then they would have to redesign all the guns.
The magnum and covenant weapons don't have sights so it wouldn't work without a redesign.

It would be awesome if aiming down the sights for the carbine battle rifle involved having the ammo counter screen transition into a red dot sight.

A Battlefield Halo would the first time I would get hyped for a game from the halo franchise.

Bad company 2 is already one of the best multi fps and its just a beta with 1 level.

Halo's gameplay is similiar to it though.

Are spartans the only soldiers that can aim without looking down the sights or do all marines have that ability?

Doesn't seem like they would be able to aim because they don't have the same visors that the spartans use.

If reach features only spartans then they wont need an ironsights system but they should include if you're controlling the regular soldiers.

Its probably a shitty idea but what if the spartan armor is something that is randomly assigned to a player who does decent in the game so that he can become the hero of the human faction while the covenant faction will have the arbiter as their hero. Those 2 armored heroes will have special suit abilities like in crysis that will let you feel like a super soldier.

The beta carbine was bananas, though. And there was a good period where no one seemed to realize this but me, so I was just running around with it (especially in FFA on Snowbound) zappin' heads and giggling.

Ditto. And I swear the sound was different. It was deeper, more menacing. Or maybe that's just my over-active sense of nostalgia.

P.S. My 360 returns from the Intensive Care Unit tomorrow so I should make it to customs on Saturday.

P.P.S. I just picked up Contact Harvest from the library. Those who've already read it, what am I in for?

Just deliver the goods Bungie. A Halo CE experience with bumped up visuals over H3 with superb multi and I think we will (most) all be pleased. Good luck.

please stop asking for a rehashed Halo CE.

Its not going to happen. Its a new game, and its almost certain that it will have new game play.

This isnt COD. I don't want the same experience again. 3 is enough.

Humans. Do it Bungie. I want to fight some shady private military force, sent in there to cover up something, ala Half Life 1, at least for like half a level.

No. There'll probably be some captain, general etc variation, but no new species afaik.

Johnson, and lots of him.
The original meeting of Human and Covenant.
Some funky A.I. interactions.
Lighter than some.

Enjoy, let us know what you think.

I doubt there will be iron sights. Halo is not COD its a totally different style of fps. There's no need for it and the spartans fire from the shoulder anyway. Iron sights are fine in more realistic shooters but keep them out of Halo, Doom and Quake etc.

My spunk levels are rising.

Never let this man near a Halo game's development cycle.

Makes sense. Weren't Spartans originally designed to put down rebellions and the like?

What is with this? Iron sights not only make zero sense in a world where you are supposed to be getting aiming info straight into your visor, but don't fit a slow-paced shooter like Halo at all. If you can't kill a person in two or three seconds then any sort of "Whoo, I'm aiming now Ma!" button does not belong in your game. No, I don't care about any examples to the contrary because those would be bad games.

Doesn't the spartan armour help aim thus not requiring any type of iron sight?

I know that was the explanation for the lack of scope on the original pistol. The suit interfaced with the gun, therefore negating the need for a physical scope.

FWIW, keep iron sights out of my Halo!

Holy Shit.

Man have you only played FPS games where you look down the sights? Look at the animations you will see all the Spartans and marines are fifring from the shoulder not from the hip.
What has the spartans visor got to with aiming, Apart from the HUD and pistol sights?
The weapons that need precise aiming have scopes, guns like the AR, Plasma rifle and brute shot do not need scopes or iron sights.

Wonder if any of the "Wars" vehicles will make it into Reach.

Edit: Hang on... Halo: Reach - H:R. It's going to be a bueraucracy simulator wherein you approve transfer requests and holiday allocation, while attending to the personal development requirements of the staff under your supervision. Just you wait and see!

I doubt Bungie would pluck something out of Ensemble's game and put it into Reach. At most it'll be inspired by one of those vehicles and most likely there'll be vehicles that vaguely resemble something from Halo Wars as it covered a pretty wide spectrum of vehicle functions.

I hope one of the "perks" is a flight exclusive jetpack that'll let me rain the BR down upon everyone. Or better yet make it powerful enough to bring the chopper to the sky!

Oh yeah, and on that subject, there needs to be brutes. Not because I enjoy fighting them more than elites, but because the chopper needs to be in Reach.

Agreed. However, there are a few vehicles where there is a possibility of seeing them in-game.

Info gathered from the Encyclopedia:

- Hawk - Propulsion engineering failures led to this beast to be pulled from production later on. It is possible to see it, but I highly doubt it seeing as how it's so close to the Halo proper games.

- Grizzly - Forge's experimental tanks. They were deployed across the battlefield, and it should be no surprise to see them in game next to scorpions because of the Military hub that Reach is.

- UPGRADED Scorpions - Wars introduced this and I really hope to see this. Tanks with upgraded main cannons would be nice.

- More Gauss technology weapons/Vehicles (i.e. Cobra) - This is more of a wish than anything, but I would love to fight next to deployed cobras laying down heavy support taking down Scarabs and wraiths. To see a hand-held Gauss weapon (magnetic propulsion anyone?) would rock the house.

- Moar Elephants

- Locusts - Possibility exists, but it is possible the Covenant could have taken them off the line because they are relatively weak.

- Super SCARAB. Please let this happen.

If Bungie allowed the creativity that Ensemble brought to the table into the game that would be nice. I'm expecting to see experiemental/other vehicles due to the miliatristic nature of Reach in the first place.

It would be absolutely awesome to be a part of a battle to save the Mars weapon manufacturing plant. Could you imagine all of the awesome experimental weapons you could pick up and use?!? Awesomeness.

Agreed. I mean I love keeping the classics and all, but if your some experimental soldier, I think it would be amazing if on certain missions you had to test out experimental weapons that backfired and had faults and stuff.

Variants of weapons would be cool too, I'm all down for diversity and special dot-sight BRs and stuff. Don't necessarily have to be included in MP for balancing purposes, but I'm guessing they will, and that Bungie will draw a lot of inspirations from MW2 and the million other games with customizable weapons out there.

If Reach is going to be Bungie's biggest game to date, hopefully that means they'll be adding something that's not entirely expected when it comes to vehicles. If they have to, they can remove some vehicles to make room for others. I'd gladly give up the prowler, the chopper, or the wraith to get a chance at driving a Locust.

Also, Bungie, I've been waiting since Halo: CE - Please, let me fly a pelican.

The hornet is more difficult to fly than the Banshee, so, maybe.

That brings up something else - Bungie, drop the hornet and give us the pelican.

However, I have updated the OP quite a few times already If there is anything you feel that I have missed and should be added to the OP, please say. =)
Update #4

Official Bungie Halo : Reach Updated - Stay Tuned!

Update #3

Taken from Reaction Time: Bungie Reflects on Halo 3: ODST

G4: Has the positive reaction to Firefight solidified its appearance in future Bungie games?

LB: Well, it was pretty well received, which we're happy about. Will Firefight return in a future Bungie Halo game? Only time will tell.

G4: Has the focused development of ODST affected Bungie's approach to game development in the future? Has it had a tangible impact on Halo: Reach?

LB: I think ODST has affected Reach, and not only because there are people that have worked on both. In terms of development practices, I can already see some influences that crept over to Reach.

G4: Are there any hidden Easter eggs that readers still haven't found that you want to spoil here -- or at least point everyone in the right direction?

JS: Players recently found the last big one -- and egg that changes a certain piece of music our Composer, Marty O’Donnell, likes to hide in every Halo game into something much more…danceable. But there are always smaller treats to find. Folks looking forward to Halo: Reach would be wise to pay particular attention to the license plates on New Mombasa’s “Genet” coupes…

G4: Have we seen the last of the ODSTs?

JS: I can’t comment on any future plans for our ODSTs. But it would be a shame if we made a game about the planet Reach -- a place where Buck, the ODST’s squad leader, was known to be -- and not have him appear in some way shape or form…

All for this. The hornet was fun in campaign [boring in multiplayer], but if you remove it, you can put in something MUCH more fun to play and is a direct counter-part to the Banshee for aerial battles.

A pelican might not be the best replacement - while larger and packs more firepower, it is ultimately a flying bus more than a manned aerial assault vessel like the banshees. I'd like to see a Hawk in its place - faster, nimble, lasers/gauss, however overpowering might be an issue.

What I'd REALLY like to see is a reference to the fact that there are a lot of Forerunner relics on the planet. Maybe incorporate a mission that plays into the defense of such an artifact (a la Dyson Sphere and Spartan defense in Ghosts of Onyx). In Wars we got to siege a taken artifact/cave, but it would be fun to see a perfected version of Firefight in Reach’s engine with large vehicles on either side and Forerunner battleground.

On the note of Forerunners – perhaps the introduction of a Spartan/ODST uncovering an artifact in the last days of Reach that contains Forerunner Combat Skin. Maybe not level 14 as 343 GS mentioned, but maybe level 6 or 7 or whatever. It would be absolutely amazing to take a part in this revelry and just mow down infantry, vehicles and air alike taking part in Forerunner combat technology. Maybe my expectations are too high, but whatever, I’d still like to see it. Somehow incorporate it into multiplayer if you want, or don’t, that doesn’t matter – just put it in campaign.

If there are going to be terminals/logs as in the previous two titles, please don’t let it be like the others, make it something in its own right just plain awesome to experience and read/listen to. I am wholly looking forward to seeing another chapter in the Forerunner epoch – or perhaps even the Precursors.

Lighter than Some is going to rock your world. You'll cheer. You'll cry. You'll want your own floating sidekick.

You'll also get a new respect for our little floating chair friends.

On the topic of Reach, I wonder if they are going to go into much detail of how The Covenant find Reach. I mean, that's always been a pretty big tidbit to me because of who responsible turns into later. It would be interesting if they paint that character in a different light initially in Reach and shows how far he's come by the time he makes it to the rest of the story we know.

I'm really looking forward to the story. I read Fall of Reach probably a dozen times and I'm excited to see that built on.
