Aww, you say that as if it's a bad thing.
A 10k post thread about Demon Souls or some other game GAF gets excited for doesn't necessarily mean most people give a shit about it. GAF as a whole is pretty down on Halo, there's the core that loves the series and a few that pop in from time to time but most GAFers don't like Halo or don't feel bothered to post about it.
Despite whatever numbers a GAF thread gets, it'd be pretty silly to say the Reach trailer isn't one of, if not, the most anticipated part of the VGAs.
I realize some of you posters feel compelled to back the other out of some Halo fan loyality thing, but I don't see how your point relates to mine. I gave a rebuttle to Dani's insinuation that a 700+ post thread is an indicator of hype for Reach. I argue that on a forum like GAF, it's meaningless.
Of course a lot of people are anticipating the trailer. Many want to see it fail so that they can gloat with KZ 2 and Uncharted 2 gifs. Some already made up their minds about preordering Reach before they even saw the leaked screen shots.
Hype generally refers only to positive antitipcation, of which I am seeing very little.

You have some weird expectations.
This is just a hype thread for speculating (brings in the regulars) and for the eventual reveal (hasn't happened yet).
When actual gameplay details surface, multiplayer reveal and the beta you'll see a lot more varied posters. Right now, this is just a teaser of the 2nd proper Halo game this generation. Additionally, Bungie and Microsoft have been quiet on the marketing front as yet. No cryptic clues, no viral marketing, nothing. People have already seen Halo this gen, we're now waiting to see to see how they step up the game.
Come the beta and official thread time, I dare you to come back and start bitching about the lack of hype, after the hype engines have been in full gear, not now when we're just waiting for the green light.
Dax tried to calm the hype down in the Uncharted 2 thread a few days before launch. I wouldn't recommended following in his brave footsteps.
First of all, I'm not trying to calm the hype down at all. I just thought your post about 700+ threads wasn't a good means to measure the hype at all. You really would be lying to yourself if you said that this thread isn't mostly filled with the same posters that fill up the other Halo threads; 15 to 20 odd guys.
Secondly, Nostradamus, I'm not dealing in predictions nor am I betting you anything about what happens after the trailer. Will there be more to talk about when gameplay details are revealed? Of course. Your original point however, as you have clearly forgotten, was about the current hype level.
