started it up just in time to see a gold elite charge and over whelm the player. god, halo CE was ace, i hope reach does in fact capture its magic that the rest in the series missed.

fyi, not saying that ce is my favorite of the batch, but it certainly has charms that are absent in the sequels.

I'm not sure about long fuses though, I think a short fuse and a tight, powerful explosion takes more skill than big booms and long fuses. Plus, bouncing a nade right off a ramp, and having it blow up perfectly in the air, in the face of a charging attacker is awesome.

well theres a couple ways to think about it, none necessarily 'right'. with a longer fuse time somebody has to be able to predict the others movement and be more aware of the nades placement.

of course that could lead to players randomly stumbling over grenades on the ground that are about to explode, but thats why its important for them to be pretty visible, and then the player actually has to pay more attention to where theyre walking

i also miss how much grenades gibbed players in halo 1.. i should probably stop talking about halo 1 now, i could talk about it all day

We wanted to. Brian even did some leg work and drummed up some details. It's just too early to talk about some of that stuff since we're not even in Alpha yet. Looks like it will be pretty positive news, but we're definitely not willing to write checks just yet.
Totally understandable, don't wanna make any promises you're not sure you can keep, and I appreciate the effort. You guys have been pushing out enough Reach content to keep me satiated for a good while. Again, nice update.

There was some, but it wasn't as obvious as the smoke trails in Halo 2. I agree though, more feedback on the arc of nades would be great.

It would be nice to have two fuse options for grenades - tap the button for short fuse or hold it for longer fuse.

I don't see a need for that. I think part of the fun and skill of Halo is grenade placement. Nothing better than a well placed grenade that people just seem to walk into.

The possibility of cooking nades would be interesting but I don't see a need for it.

Yeah, I hate options that don't require a new button to use and don't take away from anything in any way. Horrible idea!

Ok, calm down. Wasn't attacking, just disagreeing.

Just saying I don't think it is really needed. Options are good but if they really don't serve a given purpose or situation other than giving an option it is just a waste of resources IMO.

It may give players another option but I don't see it being enough of a want from players to make it a reality. This is really the only time I have ever heard anyone want that. I think grenades in Halo already have a short fuse when compared to other games.

My understanding is that you most definitely do not want a 'gaming headset' if you wish to fully enjoy the sound that reaches your ears.
While it will be an improvement if you're on some cheap speakers, I've heard it's not much of one.

Them audiophile folk around here say a good pair of stereo headphones is the direction in which you need to go. But then of course you have the mic issue.
If you're rich, that's no problem though; You can buy all sorts of stuff to get the chat going through those cans with a clip on/360 packaged mic.

(not trying to be condescending btw (just read it myself and that's how it seems =/ ) just don't want anyone blowing their cash on something they wouldn't be satisfied with. Selecting an audio solution is one of the hardest things ever, imo)
I bought new Sennheisers for the second computer. Yet everyone prefers to use the 30 year old Sennheisers with crusty foam because they sound way better. Maybe i will search for a way to make my own frankencans, combining them with the wireless 360 headset and/or several broken wired headsets i have laying around.

I wear my wireless 360 mic under my Sennheiser HD 555's. It works but it does hurt the outside of my ear after a little while.

One thing that really disappointed me is that Halo 3 has less AI per encounter compared to Halo CE.

Halo 3 has 20, I believe.

But a team of guys who "know the levels" have counted at least 70 AI's at certain moments of Flood Levels.

Bungie, please fix this for Reach

Um, no.

Does anyone remember before Halo 3 came out where Bungie said something interesting happens on the map Isolation if you play on it long enough? Did they scrap that or did I just never see it?

Ground turns floodish.

Well its not amazing, but if you look at the ground you see a lot more flood spores as time goes on, I thaught it was a really nice tough and not so in your face that multiplayer matches would be distracted.

Well, that was a weird, intensely sexual experience.

I'm not sure if I want the people in that stream to be real or not :lol

Ghaleon, I wrote that post because someone on BladedExpert's chat asked how many AI's per encounter Halo 3 had because Halo CE has well more than 30 since supposedly, each one of those little.. headcrab floods counts as 1 AI :lol

Unfortunately, when I remembered to take a screen of this, that part of the chat was already gone =\

And someone should get a HaloGAF MSN Group started!

Some weird shit went down in that chat. All I caught where snippets of it as I was busy playing Muramasa but I did manage to drop the ban hammer. None of y'all know how weird Gui can get.

I'm just teasing. I don't think it would really take much - if anything - for resources though. There's no new animation, modeling, or texture work needed - just changing existing behaviour on grenades if the button is held.

I think a long fuse would open the door to some even more incredible bank shots.

Oh no, I think the Halo 3 grenades are perfect the way they are.

No! Imagine how much more fun it would be if you seen a grenade and had no idea if it was going to go off immediately or in another few seconds later! Imagine the even more incredible bank shots! </sarc>

I'm sure the key choke points on every map wouldn't have a pile of grenades on the floor, cooking until some bozo decides to step out.

That's why they reduced the grenade type count from 4 to 2, each type eliminated frees up enough system resources for aprox. 3 Elites, 10 Grunts and a handful of Jackals (or 1 Wraith).

If they keep the grenade chain reaction from Halo CE/ODST, then the bodies of the victims will leave behind more grenades in which you could hide a few cooked ones which would explode with quite a force and kill more folks, that leave behind more grenades...

That doesn't sound exploitable at all either, if Bungie does this I'm sure they'll love the results.. :lol

Has anyone else been reading Marvel's new Halo mini, Blood Line? The second issue came out this week, and it's shaping up to be a really neat story. A group of Spartans in Black armour crash land on a planet with a forerunner installation and are abducted by the monitor along with some Covenant forces. It has some really nice artwork and is a lot better than Bendis' book or the last volume with the ODSTs. Seems like nobody else is reading it though, on iFanboy it only has 8 pulls (where Green Lantern has around 1000).

Urk, will we be getting any in game footage from X10? If you can't answer that's cool, just eager to see the game in action. The fact that weapons now strike instantly has me all hot and bothered after playing some CE and 2 at a friends last night. I could never quite put my finger on why 3's weapons felt slightly off but now I realise.
