There was some REALLY bad name calling in that thread at one point and it wasn't locked. That's because it was never moderated.

Wow@Article. I didn't realize the generic marine heads looked so great in Reach. I thought it was from Killzone 2 :lol

And the article is stupid for obvious reasons. I love how it's not okay to compare the final Halo 3 AI to the alpha Killzone 2 AI, but it's a-okay to compare alpha Reach graphics to final Killzone 2 graphics.

It actually seems that even Killzone 1 has a higher head polygon count than Reach, with 1800 to 1300.

Whether or not the Halo Reach models are less detailed is not going to have a single impact on the end result. The game will either fail as compelling gameplay, as have the last few sequels, or surprise everybody with a new direction.

You all are retarded…stating xbox360 will NOT look better than ps3…The only reason Xbox360 “doesn’t” have better graphics its because of the HDDVD is very limited in space, compared to Blueray

Ah i see... Yeah bungie is so lazy for not putting as many polygons on the faces as in killzone... Shame on them... even though we will mostly be looking at helmets.... LOL Reach looks great even if the scale wasnt as large IMO its still the best looking game on 360 even as an Alpha. The ViDoc part where the guy was shooting the grunt and the part where noble 6 assasinated the elite really showed off how great the graphics are... Either way i think people waste there time when they compare the graphics of a 360 to the PS3 because what one console does over the other is irrelevant to how much games improve on each individual console.

Ok, so I am organising a Halo lockin this friday night. CE, 2, 3 and possibly ODST will be played throughout the night. My questions for you guys are as follows;

What sort of format would work? The last one we held was great and all with like 4 8v8 matches and lots of firefight. There will be a big mess of people who love the game and play it really well and people with enough of an interest to attend ut not be too good at it at all.
Should I start browsing for infection maps?
I'm guessing there'd be around 15-20 people showing up so any tips on how one might maintain ordr would be greatly appreciated.

If there's that many, I would go with custom 8 vs 8 games on large maps. Personally, I would choose Halo 2. Tons of the bigger maps for variety. I've had LANs on Halo: CE also but only 4v4. Halo 2 LANs were great and had those up to 6v6. This, I am assuming, is believing you will carry the DLC maps. If not, you can find the discs at most game stores for a buck or so.

Firefight could also work, but those go on forever.

I cant wait to try that facing worlds map, well done!

Man, i really hope they improve the forge in Reach. I cant even imagine the maps people would make with an improved Forge 2.0.

It's even more retarded that they are comparing a standard NPC to a main character.

You know what though, its not very difficult to have a super high poly count on ur characters when the levels are small linear corridors throughout. When Killzone does the huge open areas, then we can compare poly counts.

Doesn't even matter. Don't they say in the Vidoc that the main character models are made of 4x the amount of polygons than in Halo 3 or something? Can't remember.

In any case, you are right. And also, the game should now be compared to Battlefield Bad Company 2, that does big open areas like Halo, and looks better than Killzone 2.

My social life as I know it will come to a grinding halt if the next Forge is anywhere close to what Far Cry 2 used. I can't wait.:D

Just picked up Halo 3 and ODST soundtracks over the weekend. Lots of really cool stuff that I never picked up on while playing campaign, and it's incredibly inspiring music to forge to. What's HaloGAF's favorite OST (I still need to get H:CE and H2)?

That NPC is pretty low res, its still miles ahead of the Halo 3 Marines lol

They pulled renders that looked like troopers from Reach from the web page of one of Bungie's artists, assumed they were final in game characters, wrote a bunch of stupidity and went to go get pizza and play xbox live.

We did some snooping and discovered some 3D character art by Gary Huang for Bungie’s Halo: Reach, which he’s been working on since January 2010 – and they look exactly like the same renders for the futuristic foot soldiers that Bungie has put up online as being featured in Reach. The head’s polygon count? A mere 1300 for the “hi-res” model. As added proof, the hi-res pictures are named “Ingame” and “realtime”, showing that they are indeed the models used in Halo: Reach.

They are using an pointless comparison of a main character from one game to some personal renders that may or may not be from Halo:Reach, and if they are, who knows from what version of Reach. Even if these are from Reach, they may be from a prototype of the game for all we know.

This article is now the funniest thing on the internet. :lol

I think they might come to the opposite conclusion comparing the Spartan models in Reach, which really do look super detailed, to main characters in KZ2.

Comparing soildiers or Covenent to the Helghast infantry models would make a little more sense.

Got to love people in ranked who just jump up and down on the spot for the whole match. This guy has a whole page of games where he has 0 kills in team snipers (maybe even more, I couldn't be arsed to check)

Really wish something would be done against people who consistently get 0 kills, it really ruins games where it happens (especially as I need all the help I can get!).

Reach < Killzone 2 btw, my hype totally died when I read that comparison :lol

On the human side, the new all-purpose weapon is called the DMR - Designated Marksman Rifle - and replaces the trusty Battle Rifle of Halo 3
As in Halo 3, you'll be able to take a party of friends through all of the game's modes, including Theatre, Forge and some as-yet unannounced additions to Campaign that Bungie are planning in order to add replay value.

Today marks the second day of our first full campaign mission play-test, where participants get to play through every mission of the game and provide feedback. It’s always brutal getting feedback at this stage of development, because the game is really just now coming together, but it’s invaluable for us and allows us to make course corrections if needed. At this stage, AI are still doing really silly things, the environments are not complete, and we still have “robot voice” providing much of our mission dialogue.

We have auto-generated speech from the thousands of lines of combat and mission dialogue in the game right now. It’s hilarious to hear how the robot voice butchers much of the speech. Thank goodness Marty is down in LA right now recording all that dialogue with a bunch of very talented actors. Hopefully he’ll be able to get everything we need during this one massive two week recording session. But, I’m sure I’ll want something changed and we’ll need to get a few pick up sessions later.

I’ve been developing Halo games since late 1997, and the general process of making games has changed dramatically. Instead of 20 guys in an old building near south Chicago, we’re now 150+ near Seattle and building the biggest game we’ve ever attempted. But, while we’ve built better processes around making games, it will always be a creative endeavor – and that always requires more effort than anyone can ever reflect in a schedule.

BTW – we’re super pissed that all your comments are getting deleted from this site. Brian and Eric are looking into why this is happening. I love hearing from you all and peeves me off when I find all your comments are gone.

I really wanted to hear the ODST robot voice when one of the squad-mates say "why are you always breaking my balls" in the beginning of NMPD. I think they were laughing about it on one of the podcast, still makes me laugh when I hear the un-roboted version.
 
A huge problem I have so far with Reach is Spartans having accents, especially Jorge-052.

Spartan-IIs were conscripted between 4-6 years old, and raised in the UNSC camp on Reach, raised by native English speakers and english-speaking AIs. Given that accents really only occur in children learning a 2nd language after the minimum age of 10, this is just ridiculous to me, and a lame excuse for diversity and 'cultural awareness'. If you raise someone of any ethnicity in another culture/language starting at 4-6 yrs old, you won't see that cultural clinging and forced accent - the melding will naturally happen. Especially with genetically significant Spartans.

FWIW, these actually aren't Reach/Bungie assets at all. Gary Huang created this model as part of the submission process while seeking contract employment with Bungie. This isn't actual content found in the game, just something in a personal portfolio.

Does anyone know of a stats tracking program that tells you the total time you've spent playing matchmaking? I know it's possible because on the Bungie.net stats it shows you what each game's length was. I would really, really love this so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
