"Whats active roster?" "Not quite sure yet." "What about loadouts? Is it finally becoming CoD?" "Don't know that either..." "Why would they do the trailer and not talk about it? What kind of advertising is that? God Gaylo is so dumb."

With the invasion gametype I noticed something I haven't seen pointed out anywhere. The Generator icon, clearly seen above the item which is blown up and the player is given a message that he destroyed one, hence it's safe to assume that the object was a Generator and the symbol above it was the indicator, is seen various times in the montage.

I noticed that in one of the clips, very briefly, that the circle outline of the icon is incomplete and there appears to be a number beside it.

InvasionGenerator2.jpg

This may indicate that capturing a Generator is possible in some capacity or it may indicate the "health" status of that Generator.

The icon above is found in the scene with the corridor, two Spartans and two Elites showcasing assassinations. It's visible in the area beyond the corridor but is only visible for a short time before the action in the forefront obscures it.

lol Gaylo, I fucking hate that little play on words. I actually banned that word from my stream on jtv lol.

The answer to all of those questions is simply "jetpacks".
Hell yes to this.

My friends consider me the Halo freak of the bunch (Don't know how the hell that happened), and they are all very wary of Reach. Most of them finished Halo 3 and ODST but don't care much for the art style or slower pace of the gameplay.

But then they saw the jetpacks. If there is one thing we all agree on, its that Tribes was the best thing ever, and anything that comes close to that is good times :)

Oh, and I can't forget sprint. Those two things and a new Firefight mode and they'll all get it day 1 I'm sure.

What I hate even more if people are being very serious about it, I mean sure its a funny little joke, but when people are serious and actually think thats a good insult...well then all respect is instantly lost for them.

I'm pretty sure there is a way you can gift microsoft points. Not sure how though. I may actually be willing to get rid of a beta key for some points seeing as I got the email but I already own ODST. Depends on if any of my friends are in need of beta codes though. :D

Kind of wonder what they will say to Battlefield since that's another direct competitor of CoD. I mean they already call Halo: Reach "Halo: Reacharound". I mean that's so clever right? /sarcasm

I love the psuedo Class-based Multiplayer that's there for Halo: Reach.

Yes, I know Marcus said there's no Class-based system in Halo: Reach, but this is all just an "honor rules" type of deal; having your teammates use Armor Abilities that suit their needs depending on the role they like to play in Multiplayer.

For example, if we assume that Loadouts allow each player to choose which Amor Ability to spawn with then we could have a set-up as followed:

Sniper class - Person on your team who always goes for the Sniper on every map and uses the Jetpack AA.

Support class - Person on your team who always goes for the Laser, Rocket Launcher and/or Grenade Launcher and has the Caltrop Grenade/Personal Trip-mine AA (the one people think is the personal Bubble Shield, which it's not).

Recon class - Person who always goes for the Shotgun or Silenced SMG (if it's in Reach which I hope to God it is) or is fond of the Elaborate Assassinations and uses the Active Camo AA.

Marksman class - Person who always goes for the DMR, Pistol and/or Needle Rifle and uses the Regen or Power Drainer AA (both of which, I think, were hinted at in the EDGE magazine spread).

Scout class - Person who always goes for the Assault Rifle and/or Pistol and uses the Sprint AA.

OMFG.

Has anyone else seen the track editor in Modnation Racers? It was one thing for Far Cry to implement a proper editor, it's another when a dinky kart racer has an amazing one. Reach cannot launch with Forge 2.0. I do not want to spend another 30 minutes wrangling a crate around like a puppeteer on methamphetamine.

Dance crate, dance!

CoD is fun while also managing to be completely broken.

It also has one of the worst spawn systems ever. Anyone who describes CoD's spawn system as anything less than "a travesty" is lying or insane. It makes Halo 3's look heavenly.

Far Cry 2 was always expected to have an excellent map editor. And for Modnation, the very reason it can have such an extensive suite of features is because it's a "dinky kart racer." Halo is a MANLY game for MEN! Lets be honest: Forge is a tertiary or quadrenary priority at best, behind singleplayer, multiplayer, and maybe even theatre. Don't expect farcry level editors. You will only be let down.

That being said, I think it's much, much easier to create and polish something in Forge than the FC2 map editor because Forge is so simplistic. A comprehensive map editor like FC2 had will always be a huge pain in the ass to use on an Xbox controller. Bungie didn't go for that system; they designed something simpler and easier to make fun. I'd much, much rather see Forge with expanded item traits than Far Cry 2 with spartans.

EDIT: No longer a junior member.

thats exactly what it means. the same thing happened to me. my repair was suddenly completed, i had a different serial number and now my box is an "XBOX 360 Exchange Pro", with a repair date of 01-2010 (notice not a manufacture date, but repair date. the new box is working like a champ so far though.

no if i could actually find a game on halo 2 team slayer. my box was dead when they announced the shutdown and i've been waiting to hop back in since then!

At the very least they need to add snap to capabilities, so everything in the level can be easily flush.

Thanks for the heads up on the podcast and keeping GDC anticipation in check. The trailer delivered so much fucking content it was great. The thing is it also teased so much fans are only left wanting more info (in the form of answers to questions the trailer raised). If it had had half the amount of content by leaving out the mysterious stuff I'd bet fans would actually feel more satiated.

A proper level editor should be of the utmost importance to Bungie. Only if they plan on having a completely inefficient system like Atlas to get them into MM should they not put a shitton of effort into a Far Cry level editor.

Jesus Christ, you couldn't be serious. Either you haven't spent more than 2 hours in Far Cry's editor or this is some cruel joke post. Couldn't disagree more. It's exponentially easy to go from vision to creation in Far Cry than with Forge. Sure it's easier to place a bunch of random crates around a map in forge but unless you bust your ass to glitch, jimmy-rig, and exploit your way to something respectable your options are extremely limited and the map will be so shitty it won't be worth playing on it to begin with.

Bungie's priority shouldn't be to create a system that every single person can wrap their little minds around. Their goal should be giving their community the tools that will allow for the best maps possible, not a million shitty maps made by people that don't have any business making maps in the first place. Hide advanced options under a menu or something but I want 11 year old kids' heads to blow up when they see how deep the tools for the level editor are. Forge 2.0 would absolutely be the biggest letdown for me in Reach. Halo Level Editor 1.0 or bust, the least they could do is catch up to a 3 year old Ubisoft game.

Again, if this was a joke post a apologize.

Agreed, im not expecting a map editor to far crys standard but a few simple tools will make Forge excellent. Snapping and undooing are vital!

Hmm, am I the only one who thinks that jump boots would be much more badass than jetpacks? The jetpacks remind me of a Star Wars game on the N64. They're easy to shoot from but aren't all that exciting. I think that jump boots that act like a badass mini-superjump would be sweet. Jetpacks just look weird.

Also, didn't get an email on my .Net email, but I changed it a few years ago. My account is 6 years old so I should have gotten one. I played the hell out of Halo CE and H2.

I love this. I'm also hoping the armor customizations also tend to go in this direction. Since they are purely cosmetic, it would be pretty badass to create a Spartan that looks the role of Recon, Assault or Sniper.

Okay, what makes you think it's a caltrop/personal trip mine? I know that "caltrop" showed up in the Vidoc as a sticky note on the whiteboard.

The player definitely strikes the same pose as the Halo 3 CG trailer MC does when he deploys the bubble shield, and you can see what looks like a small personal bubble shield.

It's possible there's additionally an explosion that surrounds the player, that could be used to take out vehicles.

What else am I missing?

I had one friend seriously call it Gaylo and think it was a good insult. He then asked me if I wanted to go play EssEnDee in EmDubya2. He's a prick when it comes to video games.
I'm trying to convince them this looks good, but I don't see it happening. They're all selling off their Xboxes and keeping their PS3s. Looks like I'll be the one bragging about how awesome Reach is while they're bitching about the spawns and perks in CoD7: Vietnam.

The Podcast will clear things up I'm sure.

What if "Active Roster" meant an Active Roster of gametypes?

Doesn't really seem to mesh with the clips that were shown during and after it in the trailer. Although now that you've brought it up, I hope they add this. Along with less flailing of course, or the option to turn it off.

More backflips please.

I still think it's an EMP blast and bubble shield combo. The ghost clearly bounces off the player. Then look at how the plasma grenade (lower left corner) detonates at the exact same time of the explosion on the shield totally in sync. Also it seems to ignite the timer on the grenade the very second the animation begins and the emp shield thing fires. Bungie said that these AA all have a downside, and my guess is that you either are shieldless after it fires OR all the grenades you are carrying detonate in that explosion.

It's icon is a shield with lock on it. That's definitely at least some form of shield

I also think that thing that everyone thought was a landmine at 21 seconds, is just a guy killing himself by shooting his rocket launcher into the ground

Oh its definitly a shield, but I'm convinced it also serves the role of the power drainer.
I mean honestly how useful would a personal shield that renders you immobile be, especially one that only lasted that short duration.

EDIT:and where is this mystery rocket coming from exactly? I see no rocket.

I'd much prefer it to be this short. A shield should be a "I'm saving myself in this tricky situation" ability.
H3's was used a lot more as a means to kill someone.

Active Roster means Halo MAG

theres 2 factions, Red and Blue

you choose one at the start of your Halo Career. when you play certain modes, all your kills/points/assists etc are counted towards a persistent leaderboard system. and theres world wide scores based on all the members of red or blue. For example in the month of june, Red won by 500 kills. so all the blue members wear Pink armbands in july while Red members get flaming recon

The naming of The Arena and Active Roster does make me think some form of persistence is in, though I can't really conceptualize what form would make sense. The trailer really was a double whammy of reveals and teases. Bungie has this shit down to a science.

The only thing is that it seems to be moving much faster than the rocket-rockets. Missile pod/replacement?
Or maybe it is a rocket-rocket and I'm just imagining a difference in speed.

I wondered the same thing with the back pack reloading... He kept doing the quick switch as though he wanted to backpack reload... I don't know if perhaps punching just after you switch cancels a back pack reload? I didn't think it did... But who knows.
Nah, a melee after a backpack reload doesn't stop the glitchy awesomeness. I do it all the time because the melee is less loud than (and cancels) the "switch weapon" sound, which might as well be an alarm klaxon with the shotty and rockets. Like you said, he's even going through the motion of doing it, and it's making the noise, so he pressed X once each time for sure... I guess maybe he isn't coordinated enough to press the x button twice in rapid succession? Truly inexplicable, especially for someone who's been playing the game for nine years and loves it enough to make a mod like that.

It looks like energy being drawn into the shield. Look at the large ground particles just before it.

Looks like more of a Brute Shot round from Halo 3 - glowing, fast moving and leaving a smoke trail. There's a clear shot of a rocket later in the trailer, and you can see both the rocket itself and a very different trail behind it.

Go frame by frame through that sequence. It's clearly a projectile that moves toward him and explodes on impact.

Forge is great if you're going for something simplistic. When you want to create something more complex, even with all the glitches to help setting objects easier, its still a pain in the ass. The stuff I'd like to build now, while doable in forge, would be much easier to build if there was a dedicated map builder rather than just placing panels and blocks.

That could also be dust kicked up from the ghost flipping forward.

I've been wondering about this one, and I think it's the Hunter gun. I wonder what that means.
Or it's the actual fuel rod gun, and that shoulder triple-shot anti-vehicle gun isn't the only heavy covie weapon.

I'm not expecting a true map editor or bots, but I do want them. Not so much an editor, I'd be happy with forge 2.0 but I really want some bots to play against.

If you guys need help you could always ask Rare or Epic. :p
