Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Some of you guys need to go check out the "Animosity on forums" thread.. I don't getting putting people on "Ignore" but some of you guys seem to love it, I'm probably on a couple of you guys' lists as well
I love you guys =(

Bungie, see what happens when you don't release any new info for more than three days? These are the dark consequences of going dark =(

You rarely post anything relevant or add anything interesting.

To be honest, I'd say over 50% of the post in this thread don't add anything relevant or interesting.
Though of course that doesn't mean everyone has the same ratio of worthless/relevant posts..

How is the ODST community I thinking about buying it. Is it worth $60 ?

OR if I buy it used will I still be able to play the Reach beta? I just need the disk right.

Do you have Halo 3? As already said, there really isn't an "ODST community" like there are for MP games..

All this discussion about posting quality is true. I would say back in his hay day, Voc would post maybe 5 times in a week, max. Sure a couple were joke posts, but I'd say 70% of his posts were meaty, and contributed some worthy discussion to the table. That's honestly what I strive to see here, and I myself try to bring to the table.

The detail on the DMR, Needle Rifle, Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle in first-person is UNREAL.

I'm surprised Bungie managed to gut their old engine so much to have the weapons change so much aesthetically. The difference between the AR from Halo 3 to Halo: Reach is night and day.
It's hard to make comparisons between engines when looking at weapons like the AR that are changed so much from a design perspective. Better comparisons would be between weapons like the plasma pistol which haven't been redesigned:

Reach:
plasmapistol.png

Halo 3:
plasmapistol.jpg

Conclusion still the same though; pretty impressive.

A difference of a few million polygons between weapons says a lot about engine improvements, but yeah, the Plasma Pistol looks insane now.

I'm hoping it has the oomph to back up its new look. The same goes for the Plasma Rifle.

Edit: Also, happy page 343!

Nope. The only Covenant weapon they've talked about in any sort of detail is the Needle Rifle. They've not said too much about the plasma pistol either besides a slight splash on overcharge. I hope they do what they did for Halo 3 and have sort of feature lists for a lot of the weapons. Those were fun.

Now that the elites will be the main enemies we fight, I'd like for the brutes to be included in campaign as the occasional "oh shit run!!!!!" kind of enemy.

[Scary Brute Pic]

I agree. I would really like to see the Brutes take on a more frightening role in the game. I also vastly prefer that artistic style of the brute over the Halo 3 interpretation.

Artistic direction differences aside, that comparison really shows the level of increased detail. I have to say that it is very impressive. The new Plasma Pistol looks very dangerous now.

All that's known right now is that you can only single wield it now and the plasma burns shields for a second after hitting the target.

I love how all the weapon models from Reach seem worn and kinda beat up. They look like they have been used and not like they were fresh from the factory.

Very little info on it so far, But if you watch how it's used in the vidoc though from the Vidoc and MP trailer it appears to have a MUCH lower ROF. I'm sure that's possible to see a big change, but since it was really slow in both instances, I have a feeling the PR is going to be more of it's own beast, and less of a covenant AR this time around.

As long as they bring back the stun effect.. One of the many things that disappeared from the series after H1, for the worst..

So much info still waiting to be revealed, and the beta starts in 53 days :D

Definitely.

However, even in Halo Wars, with Ensemble's great talent, and the oversight of Frankie et. al., the brutes didn't depart from what was already established and weren't scary even in the early war. I doubt we're going to see *scary* cave-man brutes.

They'll always be in packs, and because of the general gaming population going up against an entire pack, I couldn't see them being much tougher than the pack in Halo 3 in Crow's nest with the Brute Chieftain at the top. That part was tough, insanely tough for people like my fiancee (and nearly impossible on Legendary even in a group of her friends). For us GAFfers, in a group, it was a cakewalk. So for us, I think the brutes won't be much tougher, if at all.

I really hope I'm wrong though.

That was one of my highlights playing the campaign. I got to that point with not a whole lot of ammo. I must have died abot 15 times at least. Every single time the scenario played out differently (only in Halo could that happen)! It was truly satisfying to get past it!

Brutes in MP would certainly be a secret worth hiding from us for now... but a boy can dream on :p

Well from a difficulty standpoint I agree, the Brutes most likely will not change too dramatically. But that said, I would still like to see the Brutes at the very least act more intimidating, and of course behave different from elites.

And of course from the artistic standpoint, with Reach attempting to make the covenant look scarier, I think now would be the perfect time to revamp the Brutes to their original image.

Just imagine that thing snarling and barking as it throws marines out of its way to get to you. Then imagine a small pack doing that.

Couldn't agree more my friend. I want to see more than a forearm swipe for their beatdown animation, honestly. I understand they have a few more animations, but how that passed QA is beyond me.

And they look so unnatural when they run around in their beast mode.

GRITTY GUNS HERN HERN HERN SPLOOGE

In all seriousness, the detail on the models compared to the Halo 3 models makes them look like Halo 1 guns. Good to see Bungie has learned to 360 goodlier.

I'm not sure you understand what "outlier" means. There being a handful of people who post more often than you on a forum with 30k+ people doesn't quite cut it :lol
:lol @ 30K+ people posting on GAF. There are a lot of people on this forum with ~20 ppd on GAF, I gave you the link - all you gotta do is look.

I can't speak for Blue but I don't think anyone would bring it up
Nobody brings it up at all except for him.

Yep. Definitely adds a more realistic feeling to the game.

And hopefully the plasma pistol is as deadly as its look.

Wow. I hadn't noticed how detailed (and frightening) the PP looked now. I also hope it's really effective now.
I was telling one of my friends how the goal with the weapon sandbox in Reach was to give every weapon purpose. He got really excited and said that an awesome, unique and powerful weapons sandbox combined with armor abilities made this an insta-buy after he skipped 3 and ODST.

What's with all the hate halogaf?

...Here are some tweets taken from Twitter, Jeff Green was at a "fireside chat" Joe Staten participated in:

At another fireside chat. Still no fire. This one is with Dr Ray Muzyka of BioWare and Joseph Staten of Bungie.Hosted by Mr. Geoff Keighley about 3 hours ago via web

The title of this particular fireless fireside chat is: "Building a Blockbuster Franchise." about 3 hours ago via web

Joe Staten says: "Bungie had no plan." :)

"Halo from the very beginning was more an IP than just a game.It was a universe where we could do anything, not just shooters." -Staten #gdc about 2 hours ago via web

"For us it's not that we *have* to do sequels [because of corporate pressure], we enjoy doing them. We like them too." --Staten #gdc about 2 hours ago via web

"If you try to build a franchise around a single character, that can be a problem. If you build it around world, anything is possible." about 2 hours ago via web

last tweet was re: Joseph Staten of Bungie. #gdc about 2 hours ago via web

Am I the only one hoping they get rid of the annoying push-to-talk feature that's been in H2 and H3? I mean, we all just use partychat because of it and that should use the same amount of bandwith as the ingame chat, right?

I keep thinking that May 3rd is really frakkin' far away. But Pokemon HS/SS is coming out Sunday. Any other HaloGAFfers picking it up? :D

We're almost halfway through march!

Halo 3's Plasma gun almost looks last-gen compared to Reach.

More particle effects plz.

Me and some friends went back to play some Halo 2 before the servers get shut down (how that game is still so beastly amazes me), and none of us could deal with the push to talk :lol At least in Halo 3 PTK is only in games higher than 6v6 (5v5?). In Halo 2 it's in EVERY gametype and you can't bypass it with party chat cause you can't use party chat in original xbox games :(

I just really hope Reach doesn't go the MW2 route of locking out party chat because that sucks so bad.

Looks more detailed, but the textures don't seem high-res enough. It just looks pixelated and weird. Sort of like CoD: Far away it may look good, but up close...

hahaha dude it took me about 5 games when I went back a couple months ago before I finally figured it out.
as long as there's an easy mute button i never want push to talk.

I think I first played CE when I was 11. I couldn't get past the first level. Then my friends and I tried playing MP, I think we got motion sickness or something and never touched the game again.
Halo 2, on the other hand, we played quite a bit of. I was always the best even though I didn't own the game :D

This. OMG that shit is so annoying in COD. I never play XBL alone anymore and don't want to listen to all the garbage that people say while I'm trying to talk to my party.

I never really noticed the push to tlak in H2, mainly because it was my first real XBL MP game (besides Battlefront). In H3 it just really bugs me. I think the voices in H2 are kinda broken to begin with though. Game is stil fun as hell.

Good god man, you can't say shit like that and not post a link. Where is this mythical beast? If people on Halo PC were inclined to play something besides Blood Gulch (and if Gearbox had hooked a brother up with some auto-aim when playing with the controller - I am mouse illiterate), I would probably not own another game to this day...

I must be the only one who loves push to talk. I like not having to constantly toggle mute on my mic. I have a cheap one with the mute on a dongle on the cord, so it's kind of a PITA.
