Haha ever since that thread I notice that shit everywhere. It's true!

Btw, with all this headset talk, and with having recently vacuumed mine to its death, what would you guys recommend for around $100?

I notice it all the time as well :lol

For $130, I'd say, get the Astro Mixamp, then you can use any headset you have/buy on XBL.

Not to keep crapping on MW2, but that story was hardly epic. It was like a long excuse for infinity ward to throw on rails, timed defense, "idiot stealth" sections, at you. Can't forget the scenes where you die in First person either!. Infinity ward loves the shit out of those. COD4:MW though, that shit did it right.

ARG maybe? Unless Bungie is going the John Carmack route.

I want to make one CoD vs. Halo campaign comment.

While I agree with Kapura that the combat in Halo 3 is more engaging or "epic", it is not the same experience you get from MW2. Certain bits of MW2 really immersed me in the game with it's sense of urgency; I literally had goosebumps and my heart rate accelerated when I was trying to catch the helicopter at the end of the favela stage.

The only time you get that sense of urgency or "epicness" is during the Warthog runs at the end of H1 and H3. While I don't want every twist and turn to be insane or epic, it would be nice to see more impactful moments occur.

And as Dani said last night, the whole silent protagonist bit is ridiculous.

To add my two cents to this...

Rushing up out of the map room in Silent Cartographer; that was a bit of a rush.

Even though there was no actual timer, I still felt a sense of urgency to get up to the top... I miss those kind of moments.

By the way, if anyone else is going to PAX East and wants to meet up w/ myself, vhfive and Revengeance, send me a PM. We'll be having a good time at Boston guaranteed. ;)

Oh, and electricpirate will be meeting up w/ us. The more the merrier.

Campaign enjoyment to me comes in the Wow factors. Whether those factors come in the form of large battles, senses of urgency, or things that are close to home it doesn't matter. MW2 wowed me with the ability to make me feel like a soldier. Looking over at price and feeling that my life was in his hands. Halo doesn't make me feel like I'm saving the world, but it's individual battles are more enjoyable and satisfying than MW's.

That's also why I live Halo's multiplayer. Every kill is satisfying. I have to earn every kill by all means necessary.

The problem with halos campaigns is that the player rarely ever feels threatened. 99% of the time, you can just sit back and NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. You are always the one that puts yourself in danger. The AI never pushes and rarely seeks. You can go ahead and pick things off as long as you have the weapon for it. This creates a very dull experience.

Cod on the other hand does the opposite. Those games are too aggressive, if anything. That's pretty much why cod4 is my favorite campaign. It mixed aggression points with calm/anticipation points very well and the two mentalities complimented each other, while mw2 was too much aggresion, not enough anticipation.

I agree with the first point a lot. You never feel too threatened in halo, so it feels less satisfying. Maybe the aggressive tactics (searching for a weak player, throwing grenades) should be more prevalent on higher difficulties.

MW2 seemed like kind of the opposite; you generally felt too vulnerable. You had to camp in cover until the next wave was dead, then move up and repeat. If you broke formula, you died in less than a second. While sometimes I felt accomplished in advancing and taking an enemy position, more often than not I felt undue frustration at being the only person targeted by a score of enemies while my squadmates did jack to help me in any way. While it might not be hard to take down a scarab, it is sufficiently complicated and there is a big enough explosion that I do feel good about killing it.

Realism.

Personally, i thought MW2's campaign was perfectly paced. I was always engaged in what i was doing. Although some parts of the story were engaging, there was nothing to rave about. The campaign did feel very on rails but it seemed to work for that game IMO. I would not like to see MW2 take up a Halo style campaign and vise versa.

That being said. Halo is no 5 hr campaign and the multiplayer never gets old... cant say the same for MW2. I will not be buying the MW2 maps.

Bad Company 2's campaign, on the other hand, sucked.

We're recording the March podcast next week and one of our segments will be "20 questions with Sage." We've got a good list going already but wanted to open it up to you folks to see if we're overlooking any good gems. Keep in mind we may not be able to tackle all the pressing questions depending on timing and embargos and whatnot. The focus will obviously be on the SANDBOX (and facial hair).

What type of small woodland creature would Sage most like to house in his glorious beard.

To Sage: You've talked generally about reshaping the weapon sandbox by reducing redundancy and pushing new and old weapons into particular roles. Could you talk generally about the approach to reshaping the vehicle sandbox for Reach? There hasn't been the duplicity present in the weapon set with vehicles, and I'm curious what the goal was in whatever vehicle additions/tweaks have been made.

Note I'm not looking for some reveal about vehicles, but rather the design approach he is taking to them, and how that may differ from the previous Halo games.

Sadly, I will not be able to make the HaloGAF-Forgehub battle on Sunday :( It just dawned on me that Sunday is my little sister's confirmation. I've already let the first sub (bobs99) know. Should the time change, I might be able to make it, but as of right now I'm out :(

Question for Sage:

When designing and tweaking weapons for Reach, what was the approach to Multiplayer weapon battle/encounter length. More specifically, did you guys aim to keep the relative length of multiplayer battles the same as Halo 3?

What I mean by battle length: Guy A has a battle rifle, guy B has Assault Rifle. Hey meet eachother in an open space, battle ensues. Battle ands with a victor.

Some people believe that Halo's individual multiplayer battles are too long. Adjusting weapon strength and range would affect this battle length.

...what are the mid-range weapons in Reach?

Can you give us a quick Friday update on the montage, Bladed?

Well, all was going well this week, had the majority of the clips in, and had the end in sight. Last night though, Sony Vegas started acting up. Crashing and whatnot. I'm thinking its a RAM issue, so over the weekend I'm gonna render the first 9 minutes and start on the second part. If needs be I can always stitch the two back together. So all things going well, by the end of the weekend I should have a rough 1st cut!

To Sage: Multiplayer Halo is played by many players of hugely varying skill. How can a sandbox designer reward skilful players, without reducing the appeal of the game to a wide population?

I can answer that one:

To sage:

Q: What does it feel like being a badass modern day viking?

or

(since I'm still not sure about the FOV)

Q: How does widening or narrowing the field of view affect the adversarial gameplay balance, and is that the reason to why the last two online competitive Halos have narrow FOVs?? Are we getting the wide field of view from Halo CE and ODST back?

How do you make each weapon unique (no filler weapons a la Brute Plasma Rifle or Spiker :lol ) without ending up with too many niche weapons which never see usage?

How much will players be able to customize weapon settings compared to in Halo 3? ROF, zoom, mag capacity?

Will we have the option to turn off Armor Abilities, or weapon spread (basically will we be able to create "Halo Classic" gametypes) ?

Have Bungie learned from their mistakes and brought back touch return? :lol

Thanks guys, hopefully you'll be able to answer at least one of these :D

Sage: Can you tell us what you had for lunch last Friday just by tasting your beard?

Sage: In your opinion what is the most significant change to the sniper rifle from H3 to H-Reach?

Does the beard help with the ladies?

Pretty sure that instant return is available in the Flag options. Now if you were to talk about Neutral Flag, that would be a great question. :D

Dude. You're saying they don't assign perks to men in the army that allow them to run around at supersonic speed while dual wielding shotguns that kill their enemies with one show from 100 feet away?

Well sir, you need a lesson on realism.

Why? This would be a godsend for stuff like MLG. *Remembers fond HMT memories*

Are you really arguing against having more options?

It's 3 second return and you can return the flag through walls and stuff ><

No, any game that lets you go solo and gun-ho is a far cry from realism. Realism is boring.

You could customize weapon settings in Halo 3? Wtf

Q for Sage: Will grenades once again have a substantial effect on vehicles like they did in Halo CE? Or maybe I'm just shooting for an explanation on if the physics of the grenade have changed at all in Reach.

I am all for having more options, but those things aren't Halo at all.

Gametypes just need to be used more. 2-Bomb (Assault) was in Halo 3 but rarely used at all. Neutral Flag was pretty fun and hilarious for Multi-team (four teams of 3 ftw) and Team Skirmish.

Ugh, miss Halo 2's Team Skirmish settings, maps, and gametypes so much. It's like Halo 3 released and it all got erased.

Q: In the past Covenant weapons have sat... awkwardly in the sandbox. Either there were a host of clones, or they had limited usefulness. For the revealed weapons, how are they being made both unique and useful?

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I was right. At work so I can't look now. Don't know why I thought it was there... :-(
