Who's picture-story was that Traxus factory worker making it nearly all the way through The Storm? Was that Ghal's? Google has failed me. That's my favorite picture story ever.

Yeah, they even made it into the ending cut-scene, standing in silhouette behind the Chief. I'll try to find it. I accidentally deleted a Photobucket folder a year after Halo 3 came out, so they may not be online any longer, but I've got'em on my PC at home.

Indeed, the lighting lined up perfectly for me. I used it as a wallpaper for quite some time. :D

How did you get way up there? As a campaign junkie, I must try this.
I jumped away from a grenade and landed on top of its leg - just as it was being lifted up. The power of the Scarab's leg rising shot me straight up.

In the saved film, it was just hilarious to watch all the Covenant on the Scarab stand there and tilt their heads further and further back. Even the Jackals on the ground (like the one in that shot) just followed my trajectory. I wish I had the film, as I'd find a way to render it out from a few different angles now. But I'm sure it can be replicated on any Scarab encounter, though I haven't tried deliberately.

I was in co-op (obviously) and my partner had no idea where I went. I'm like, "I'm a bird! I'm a plane!" It must have been a solid 20 second round trip. :lol

Same thing happened to me, except when I was trying to land my Hog on the Scarab.

This will never happen, but how awesome would it be if Reach had an 'experimentation' mode. They have already said they had to cut some scenario's because it didn’t fit in with the mission and story design.

So yeah something akin to CoD's Spec Ops but crazier. From Spasm's picture I would love a very simple mission which just involved a Hog, A ramp and a trampoline :lol

Seriously though - how cool would it be too get campaign missions that are free from the story constraints and can be as weird as possible.

Campaign Forge.

I don't think it will happen, but I'm hoping for some level of customization in Firefight that will get close.

Awesome. I've been flung out through the death barriers before in a similar fashion, but never straight up like that. Now I have a new goal. :D

Campaign Forge wouldnt fit the role of what im after, I literally mean full on Story missions. That Guardian mission that was missing from Halo 3 could have been fitted on as a 'Special Ops' type scenario. No real backstory is required, just a brief overview of things and some interesting mission design. Like CoD's Spec Ops.

This would give Bungie the freedom to say "screw the continuity" and let us play Halo 1 missions from the point of view of the Lone wolf, they could also make up crazy scenario's which wouldnt be possible with the constraints of making a coherent story.

The way I see if Forge for campaign would suck, you cant actually make interesting mission scenario's out of blocks of concrete and props :lol

Firefight Forge would be heaven though :D

We had some good laughs in that game though.

Yeah :lol

" Us - Did we make it?
Zayne - Oh shit!
Us - Nooooooooooo!!!"

We had a lot of fun, that's true :lol

That made me want to try another 4 player co-op run. Anyone interested in that? Maybe after the Halo 2 servers are shut down?

We don't have a time, but the pattern seems to be mid-week. IIRC, all the recent reveals have been Wednesday or Thursday. That said, with MP maps they could introduce them graduall over the week, using different sites, instead of one big content dump. Needless to say that's what I'm hoping for.

I know Halo threads always fill up with the same 8-9 posters, but now it's being spammed with Halo 3 screens/discussion?

Isn't that off-topic, by it's very definition? Isn't this the Reach thread?

edit: oh ODST too, wtf?

Yeah, lets back off the Halo 3 Screenshot train for a bit please.

We are going to have enough screens in here when the media/screenshots start to get posted for Reach.

Yup, up until we started getting solid Reach media the ODST thread was the exact same.

People need to chiiiiiill. When new Reach info hits the thread will go back to "normal".

The thread has been following a pattern for weeks: fits of nostalgia in between new content reveals and heated discussion of said new content. For the past couple days it was lists of favorite maps in Halo 2, now it's Halo 3 screens. It's part of the nostalgia of saying goodbye to online Halo 2 and transitioning in Reach for Halo 3. It's been going on for months really, but it just now got around to screenshots. These fits last about a day each.

That said I do agree we should knock it off with the screens (I'll edit mine down to links), as the thread is getting cluttered fast.

I remember that battle full of enemies. It looks sort of deserted in that image. I can't wait for Reach and its massive battles with twice the number of enemies.

Going to have to agree. Since we know the Reach Beta will have screenshot functionality, there's more than enough time ahead for picture dumps.

I just pity someone walking into this thread and seeing pages of old Halo 3 and ODST pictures in a Reach thread.

I know, I just always lurk here for new info (and yours and Bungie's insight and opinions on it) and it's all absolutely being buried beneath pure random, general Halo stuff. A general Halo thread to talk about the books, movies, halo 1, halo 2, halo 3, and odst would be great but this is the Reach thread. I wish the Halo 3 thread was still open.

You guys have even talked about halo 2 and 3 net code balance here, haha.

Other than the people who post here regularly, that's what it looks like. Along with the pages and pages of non-Reach discussion, the pics are just the truckload of whip cream on top.

edit: FINALLY watched the April 1 vidoc. Great footage, the rocket launcher looks sexy in first person.

There used to be this great Halo 3 thread, but it seems that Halo players, unlike uncharted, COD, or Killzone, are not allowed to have a thread to discuss the content in.

I'm sure that the Official Halo Reach Thread will last a solid 6 months before a mod or admin close it for the lols.

On topic question. What Armor Ability do you guys plan on using for Spartans and Elites respectively?

Sprint
Evade
Armor Lock
Jetpack
Camo

Now correct me if I'm wrong but sprint is only for Spartans and Evade is only for Elites. Or maybe you guys care more about starting weapons. I know a lot of people got excited over the 'Expert Marksman' loadout.

Obviously I'll have to reserve judgment until after the beta, but right now I think I'll love sprint. My favorite class in TF2 was the scout. Being faster than everyone is a huge plus in my book. The only downside to the scout, imo, was low health. But now that's not a problem. Evade looks nice too.

So has it been confirmed one way or the other if loadouts and armor abilities will be in the arena mode?

Bungie said that the point of Arena was to eliminate external variables and offer an environment that would measure pure skill. Loadouts are definitely a variable, since by their very nature they spawn players with a decided advantage in one circumstance or another. Likewise for armor abilities by themselves.

So that indicates to me that loadouts are Invasion only. AR/Pistol or DMR/AR starts with power weapons scattered around the map, as in Halo 3. I think that would be a cool way to go, because you would get what basically amounts to an iterative improvement over Halo 3 in the Arena, and completely new, teamplay-focused objective gametypes in Invasion.

Best of both worlds.

I think the weapon the ability is paired with will be a strong point in the decision. I will choose whatever comes with a shotgun.

I think it will depend on my team and on what needs to be done to achieve the objective. I'm pretty much a team player so I fill the roles that no one else wants to do. I'm awesome like that as I die a lot capping flags and planting bombs.

This is a forum thread though and people are gonna wanna discuss Halo in general - its a bit too cluttered to have to do this between multiple 'Halo' threads and this megathread seems perfect unless your literally just looking to see if there new info. Anyone who looks in here for news of new info really should be looking elsewere, I doubt even the OP is updated - but again this is a forum thread, not a newsfeed.

That said the H3 pics clutter the place up pretty quick :lol

As for loadouts, if its anything like Halo 3 - when playing competativly I will use the most effective loadout - but when playing for fun I will probably use whatever comes with a Jetpack :lol

Or whatever comes with Sprint, just so I can get to the Banshee/ Sniper first

That's actually another thing I'm not clear on. Do Elites get to use abilities? If so, that throws the species balance back into question for me. It made sense to me as bigger, stronger, faster Elites vs Spartans that can use armor abilities for quick bursts of strategic advantage. But if Elites can use armor abilities too, then they have an advantage. If an Elite with armor lock goes up against a Spartan with armor lock, the Spartan is done because his shields and health will go down faster.

As for loadouts, I'm thinking I'm going to use either marksmen, grenadier or jetpack. It really depends on how fast and easy to control the jetpack is. If its fun and easy to use, Ill probably stick with that, switch out the pistol for a DMR as soon as I find one, keep the AR for suppressive fire. Grenadier is probably going to be a 'backup' class, something to switch to if the other team gets a little too aggressive with their vehicles. :D

More OT incoming:

Montage is almost done. Only 7 peoples clips left. I have three quarters rendered and pretty much finished right now. Last section of clips and outro left and then I'll try and stitch it all together (maybe into two parts - it's in about 5 parts right now...)

I think, as was my mantra during the AR/BR debates, it will simply depend. And since we'll be able to change the loadout between spawns, strategies are going to shift over the course of the game. We'll want a few folks with Sprint from the outset to secure power weapons quickly. Other than that, it will depend on the map and gametype.

It also depends on what limitations are placed on the abilities during bomb/flag runs. Can I fly with the enemy flag? How about sprint with it? If one active camo scrambles radar, does three in the same area scramble it three times as hard? Imagine walking into an area and suddenly your radar turns into a solid sea of red dots. ffffffuuuuuuuuuu

I see myself using Camo a lot, in combination with the close quarters weapons, as I'm a flag theif. And of course on larger, more open maps, a DMR will be essential.

So, it depends.

Elites can use every armour ability but sprint, and they can use evade while spartans can't. This is why Spartan vs elite will almost certainly be only the multi-objective Invasion mode. Asymmetry implies imbalance, we can't fight it. Let's at least make it interesting.

Does anyone have a link to confirmation of this fact.

That's really disappointing if true. Asymmetry does imply imbalance, but you can still try and make things as close to balanced as possible. More over, by giving Elites one kind of advantage (perpetual strengths like better health, shields, foot speed) and Spartans another (armor abilities that give them unique strategic advantages), you encourage two completely different types of play for each species, which would add depth and variety.

About the Elites and armor abilities, Bungie said in their last BWU that Elites have Camo and Evade. They also didn't confirm or deny if Elites could use Armor Lock or Jetpacks. As far as I can tell Elites have a major disadvantage in size and must make up for it in speed and sheild recharge time. I think Bungie feels like in order to balance them they NEED Armor Abilities.

It's in the last weekly update. However, it's not said what situations that flexibility will exist in. During Invation - Elites vs. Spartans - it makes sense to limit the Elites to Evade or Camo as they already have a host of inherant advantages over Spartans and AA balances that out. But in an Elites vs. Elites gametype, it makes sense to provide more AA options to mix the gameplay up.

I suspect we'll see a logical use of restriction on the Armor Abilities for Elites vs. Spartans.

Take a few seconds to look at the OP once in a while. It's been constantly updated over the lifetime of this thread.

I'm working on one final update before the Beta thread is created.

Also;

Folks, please refrain from any more Halo 3 / ODST picture dumps.

If you must, post text links of pictorial examples, but please don't be spamming this thread up with any more gallery posts with a wall of pictures.

Or create a separate thread or bump up the old Halo 3 Gallery thread for the purpose.

It's not fair on other folks coming in here expecting to see Reach media and being presented with Halo 3/ODST assets.

Thanks guys.

As far as AA goes, I'm really curious to see how things like the grenade launcher is going to work in objective games. I can see people (like me) dumping a grenade on the flag spawn and just waiting to hear "Flag Taken".

I would expect that you can shoot cooking grenades. Just gotta be more careful when walking into a suspiciously empty flag room.
