Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

How many maps are there with a hog, where you can fall off the map, and that also contain a gravity hammer? I think it's only Rat's Nest. Although I've seen it done with grenades on Stand-off. I'm a master of accidentally driving off of maps. I don't even need anyone to try and kill me. :lol

Im pretty much banned from driving the Hog, somehow I will aways screw it up :lol

Ive knocked people off Avalanche by crashing a wraith into them, that was hilarious. More maps need ledges in my opinion. I have never experianced what you described though Schmitty that sounds like it could be the makings of a fun custom game - Hog Wars :p

No. We're past it. The arguing was a lot of miscommunication and personal problems we don't need to discuss further.

I personally try to avoid that part of Rat's Nest. It's too easy to get picked off by a BR or incoming turret, especially if using a melee weapon like the hammer.

Okay, I feel the need to start a new discussion. We've all talked about which maps we would like to see remade in Reach, if any. Many have said that Reach's Forge will likely include the tools necessary to rebuild our favorites.

But some maps have elements that Forge could not recreate, at least in its current incarnation. Likely the Reach incarnation will have similar limitations. So here's my question:

Are there any maps with elements you will miss, since Forge will probably not include the ability to recreate them?

Being that Narrows is my favorite map, I'm worried about the mancannon on Narrows. We might get mancannons to work with, but I'm worried we won't be able to adjust how far they throw you, how much control you have, etc.

Though many hate Backwash, I like the idea of having the option to include fog. I could imagine putting white fog in some morning sunrise level to great effect. In fact, I would think Rat's Nest, Valhalla, etc would look better with a bit of fog. Guardian, Longshore and Assembly have a little fog, but this isn't used so as to change the game dynamics like it is when included to Backwash levels.

I just want a Terminal type map back, that train added a lot of fun - dodging it while fighting people was incredible. I didnt get to ever play Backwash outside of Customs so my opinion may be wrong but that fog had the potential to lead to some scary/ cool moments aswell.

The thing is as much as I love the Terminal train and hope Bungie bring these elements into Reach - I really think if every map had something it would feel a little gimmicky.

Lucky for you, it seems that three of the four Beta maps have those ledges you so adore.

Everyone has to load hogs and drive their teammates off to score? :lol

Though only one seems to have Hogs. Or any vehicles, for that matter... IIRC

What time on Tuesday is the embargo lifted?
Not sure. Some of it seems to Wednesday at 15:00 (guessing GMT due to EU source).

Had we seen this before? IGN watermark but doesn't seem to be up there..

Reach's Forge needs waterfalls for a proper Damnation remake.

Reposted it due to it being likely no one would see the edit.

Kapura, as much as I love the rare occasion ledges lead to chaos, I do think 3 maps is a little too much - hopefully theres a good balance between chaos and more controlled maps.

P.S. if that picture is legit, I love it - kinda sad to see Halo 2's stats section gone though, hopefully the stats are still accessible somewhere.

Brutes are incredibly lame enemies. A whole universe of potential designs and Bungie chooses a giant monkey with a hammer. Maybe in Reach they'll throw barrels at us?
I just hope they wont be the same lame bullet sponges again, that is all they where in 2 and 3. Which is why im happy with elites because when I fight them, I feel like I am actually fighting another player.

Mancannon said we'd see tons of footage this coming week, if I'm not mistaken
Yup, he did. US Press I assume for that footage then.
Or else the Embargo form is just a fake, but I'd say that's unlikely, would make sense that there was an event in Paris this week, as the final lead time for the EU press before the Beta starts.

I'm in the same boat with people not liking the brutes, but I'm actually not worried about them for Reach. With a revamped engine, new look, and 3 games to learn from mistakes, I actually think the brutes will be just fine. And that's coming from me :D

1500 GMT is 10am Central Daylight Time, or 8am Bungie time, or 11am Eastern. Better move to the west coast so you can get the first bits of new info ;) j/k

Well I dont think they are really going to be a big part of the enemies in this game, and with elites being scary and way higher up than them, I can bet you we will see some elites beating up on some brutes.

Also I want to see some Brutes get destroyed by that giant tusk animal that was mentioned in the leaks

So this is what happens when you play through a level so many times you start to notice the really little things.

Fish - Barrel.

So, um...when's Reach coming out?
Wow

And people asking about or doubting the beards, really?? Really now? Go watch the Reach Vidoc and be enlightened.

Man, so many good 1flag/1bomb assault maps in Halo2:

Headlong
Relic
Terminal
Lockout
Burial Mounds
Ivory Tower
Turf
Zanzibar
Ascension
even Sanctuary

I was all about the team skirmish in Halo2. In Halo 3, I've recently been enjoying multi-team quite a bit.

Hey I may have missed this at some point, but trying to gather up some info; do we have any idea if the Mongoose is returning or not?
I thought I saw it in one of the Invasion screens but it may have just been a hog.

One of the magazine articles that went over the initial wave of campaign info - I think it was GI, might have been Edge - mentioned that it was in. But it's not in the Beta.

I find it noteworthy that only one of the four maps has vehicles. In the Halo 3 Beta, there was only one large vehicle map - Valhalla - but High Ground and Snowbound had them as well, despite being much smaller. Certainly Powerhouse looks comparable in size to High Ground, but it's got none. I'm assuming the decision was made in part to get people to put more test time into Armor Abilities. I'm wondering if that will carry over into the final game.

I know about the beard, but still think it's weird with everyone having one for their avatar.

So I noticed that the Assist Medal and Headshot Medal are in the beta. Which I think is great. And I think it's a safe bet to assume Hammer Spree, Dream Crusher, Sticky Spree, and Sticky Fingers are in. (Did I miss any new ones from ODST?)

Which brings me to my next point. I always love getting Sniper Sprees and Shotgun Sprees, but sometime you are forced to defend yourself with a different weapon to stay alive. Would anyone else prefer Spree qualifications to allow other kills in between? Say you snipe 4 guys in a row, but then assassinate another, then snipe 1 more. Should that be considered a Sniper Spree? Just looking for some opinions. But I guess it's up to Bungie to decide.

I think they said that "spree interuptions are a thing of the past".

I also noticed a new Revenge medal in that new footage by the way.

For as much as I dislike Brutes (and I was just about to make a big post about them), I've been even more disappointed in the Hunters post Halo:CE. At least the Hunters used to be cool. The Brutes never had that going for them. :lol And nothing like making an annoying enemy even worse by giving them random invincibility :/ Yeah that will spice them up, which brings me to my next thought, the gravity hammer. Never liked it, never will. I'm full of positive vibes today.

I agree that Gravity Hammer isn't as cool as a weapon as it should be. But I really have hope for Brutes in Reach. I remember reading about them before Halo 2 came out and thinking they'd be great. Then again in Halo 3 I had high hopes...The concept of the "Brute pack" is cool but it wasn't in application. Brutes weren't as fun to fight as Elites, but they took the place of Elites. Now with Elites coming back and all of the Covenant getting a redesign, Bungie has a chance to distinguish Brutes. I have hope. Do you hear me Bungie? I have hope. Make me proud.

Luke confirmed that "Other" kills no longer interfere. The other kinds, as far as I can tell, still do.

So if you're going for a Sniper Spree, but get a hammer kill or shotgun kill, it'll interrupt. But an assassination or needler kill won't? If so, that'll work. :D

And the Revenge Medal is new. Along with 'First Strike' right? I'm loving both so far. And I was just mentioning ones that carried over from ODST.

I don't remember the exact wording on Luke's quote so I may be wrong, but I think nothing interrupts the sprees except your death.

He specifically said "Other kills interrupting sprees is a thing of the past." Whether he meant "Other" other or just other-than-the-spree-weapon he never clarified. Those bunglers!

Not a Jellyfish

but I am a sheep
Wonder if we will be getting a final number or at least a rough estimate of how many different assassinations will be featured in the beta...as much as I want to see them all, I don't want to have them spoiled for me because it will take away from the joy of performing them for the first time.

Agreed. When reading about Brutes before Halo 2 they seemed terrifying. Halo 2 seemed to physically show them that way, but gameplay wise they fell way short. With Halo 3 they weren't bad, but they weren't great. I would love to see them go back to the groundwork of the brutes making them much more aggressive and terrifying. Also, while I liked some of the armor for the brutes in Halo 3, overall they seemed too..un-brute like. I hope they find a good mix between the original art style of the Brute and the Halo 3 style. I wasn't a huge fan of their appearance in 3.

Oh God I just spent the entire weekend working on a Reach OP for another forum. Super hyped for this game now. Can we plz has beta now :lol

:(

I think it would be neat if when a Brute swings the Hammer, it makes a much more horrifying loud/scary sound then when you do it.
