Watched just the Halo footage again, and damn is Keighley acting like a douche about the AAs and SMG
He does that during every developer interview. When gets like that he always comes off as annoying and awkward, IMO.

I think he does it on purpose to get devs to slip up on info they shouldn't have gave up. A lot of times he'll ask questions that many people wouldn't as well.

Yeah, he should stop asking anything that's even remotely in the slightest hard-hitting and instead lap up the info he's fed with all smiles.

Wtf? No.

I was happy he asked about the SMG and AA because I was wondering the same thing. And I knew exactly the awkward shrug he would get from Bungie before they even replied. Im disappointed they didn't have better reasoning in fact.

"well... yeah... reach is like a whole different planet, you know? so... only these spartans have AA because... its the spartan base?"

It's not the content of the question but how he asked it with his smug smile.

Did you ever think things were removed and added because it fit the game better? Not everything has to be tied to the canon in some way.

Oh man, just played 10 games or so with Shake. Let's just say that months of MW2 and 77 games of Halo 2 haven't exactly helped my Halo 3 skills any :lol . I think I went positive once, and there was a few games I was going -10 and -15 :(

It's Bungie's responsibility to tie it to canon though, unless they want to be bothered and asked about it multiple times.

One of the best aspects of the Halo universe is the way the stories are cemented and connected in interesting ways. Saying "well that's just the way it is" about AA when they could (and will hopefully) come up with fascinating/epic stories to explain them, is laziness.

Waaaait a minuite.

They didnt just say "thats the way it is" - they had a pretty good reason for it and I have a feeling they really wanted to do Reach as it was a prequel and gave em a chance to do prototypes of weapons and just generally give them more freedom. This seems to me like stuff they carefully planned.

Reach WAS the main military planet, ONI HAD loads of existing secret projects. The idea that the secret tech was lost as the planet fell isnt exactly a hard concept to grasp. This is all stuff thats already been set out in the fiction. Its not even like this tech is widely used, a special ops group is using it, im not suprised the secret tech stayed secret.

Fair enough Bungie sucked at experessing it in that interview, but the interviewer was REALLY awkward. I fully agree though, that Bungie needs to get the fantastic story from the books to the fans somehow because otherwise it will look like a fat loophole.

They said they were prototypes, which is probably as "epic" as its going to get.

They had a semi-serous reason for it, which Carney provided (it's the R&D center of the UNSC at the height of their technology, so there's new stuff on Reach that didn't make it elsewhere), but when it comes to combat design they can do whatever they want. ODST's lugging turrets around and flipping over Warthogs? Dual wielding coming and going? The wildly different Needlers and pistols between games? No fall damage? Oh wait, fall damage is back. It's a game. Not every decision is subject to cannon-based evaluation.

I agree, my paraphrasing is so bad haha. "The planet was lost" is what he said. But that's a crappy explanation, especially when the humans managed to salvage so much tech after battles, and the spartans appear to have had the AA for a good length of time, not RIGHT before Reach is lost or something.

I'd much rather have the AA's be off-the-record and unapproved mods done by the spartans themselves and relatively unknown to others. Otherwise, Master Chief is a 7-foot tall spartan with the maneuverability of a small child, just because.

I guess the military providing them with the AA in isolation is a decent explanation though.

Very true. I just kinda make all comparisons to Master Chief. Apparently him appearing to be a disabled spartan in Halo 3 was an accident and the badassery belonged to the others.

Do you want a full novel on why AAs aren't in the other games or something? The planet was glassed and the tech was lost, that's all your going to get.

Why didn't any of the others spartans hear about/get the AA? Is 5 years (or however long they had it) too short of time to use all the available tech to spread it around?

Im hoping an early segment in the story mode introduces this properly, they will need to explain AA in story mode anyway - so actually taking us to a secret base (Sword base?) and outfitting us with a new experimental peice of kit will be a good way of doing things.

Something that just struck me... As a April fools joke Bungie put a 'Pro' Tag on Louis Wu's account, I just realized that this is something they must have actually spent time implimenting and that a whole tag system was created where they could apply different tags to different people.

In this instance it was used as a joke but I really wonder what they originally planned to do with the Pro tags. Just applying them to pro players is one possibility but I really do wonder if they had a Arena style system planned for Halo 3? What other tags, and secrets have they got hidden away that they can still use?

I'm thinking Bungie will do it justice definitely.

I'm pretty sure they originally intended for them to be given to Bungie Pro subscribers

There it is. Instinct wins.

1. Instinct
2. Classic
3. Final Boss
4. Status Quo
5. Believe the Hype
6. Triggers Down
7. Darkest Hour
8. Str8 Rippin

I don't think anyone could have predicted this top 8. I expected Instinct to do well but not win the whole thing. Str8 looked shitty this weekend.

Carbon is nowhere to be found. I haven't been paying attention to MLG lately, but don't they have Walshy and Strongside?

Finally an Instinct squad I can believe in! Roys my Boy!

Fake edit: The guy with the highest k/d ratio this event is a Brit :D

Yea Instinct has an amazing squad now. I'm not sure what happened to the top teams this event like tD and Str8. Str8's teamwork was really off. Their communication was shit, they looked like a bunch of people in matchmaking who just got thrown together. Carbon we knew wasn't gonna be that great. I thought Heaven and Earth would do a little better but it wasn't meant to be. I think the next event we'll see some better competition from all teams. I just hope there aren't any team changes.

Elamite is laughing his ass off right now. T2 you are retarded. A block of wood has more personality than Heinz. Remember the first rule of MLG, kids: Thou shalt not team with people just because they can slay.

Lol. I'm sure he is. I actually think Heinz is better than Elamite but obviously it didn't show this event. Instinct's teamwork and communication was insane.

If there are no team changes I'll give my 360 to charity and take a vow of celibacy...

Heinz probably is better than Elamite but it doesn't matter. Neighbor is better than everyone but he can't do shit in a tournament. I mean, on paper tD should be tearing dicks off but they came in 6th. It's all about the chemistry.

People need to stop sleeping on StrongSide. Dude is still good. Str8 should get rid of that dope Heinz and pick up SS.
