Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Kapura said:
Pretty sure you could always make Halo 3's assault like Halo 2's.
That may be true, but if you're like me and didn't have many friends that played Halo3 then you would be playing assault in customs all alone. I like competing in matchmaking anyway and playing against new players. :)

What is that?

If that's the reach beta, I'd totally do that if I had that kinda cash to drop. I wonder if I would be able to actually play it.
Yeah looks to be the beta... Sadly it seems like you cannot even purchase it :(

Hey Urk, are we going to have weather options? I would at least like fog, so I can recreate Backwash :D

I want some Ninja Shotties Classic Flag on Backwash :D :D :D

Anybody using the flag-cap avatar?

I don't want to remember any map with a feature referred to as the "poophole."

Already enough shit in the thread. :p
Referring to the crap pictures a couple pages back, not criticizing anybody

Hey, I always thought the flood levels in halo 3 were some of the best looking, maybe not the most fun, but definitely some of the best looking. I didn't mind the sphincters at all.

So when the embargo is up or whatever it is, are we going to get some gameplay videos? I need to see some Invasion gameplay without interuptions for sucky racing games and downloadable FPSs nobody wants.

Looking forward to some Splaser footage whenever the videos get off embargo. I want to see how it's improved since it's sexy Tom Morello days.

I'm sorting doubting it. If you read the NDA posted, any video footage cannot be post before April 26th. I would think Bungie would let the news sites have the spotlight this week.

I still think this looks like an extension of The Storm or something on Earth. I hope Bungie is making Reach feel alien and not just a copy of Earth.
Aside from plant and animal life, Reach wouldn't be all that different from Earth. It's a M class planet after all.

That's a lazy excuse. I have faith in Bungie, but I haven't seen much that convinces me that this isn't Earth.

It's not a lazy excuse. What do you want it to make it feel alien? Bungie can't help that planets humans could live on would be very similar. Thinking back on the two levels, Earth felt pretty alien with the storm created by portal to the Ark in the background on Tsavo Highway and The Storm.

all world levels in halo games are earth like. Even the rings are designed to look like earth... Then you've got a bunch of human military complexes on it, why would their architecture look anything other than human?

Seriously.

I imagine it works if you try to spawn by your battle bro. He's driving, you're gunning, and you die. He turns around and drives to a clear area, and you spawn back into gunner, and are off again.

So good.

Oh my God that is amazing, I hadn't even thought of that. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck

What are you expecting, blue dirt? There are only so many elements on the periodic table, man. Especially in a shipyard. Blame ferric oxide, not Bungie.

I am stoked more than ever on Customs in Reach.

:( That it's not available in the beta, maybe someone will find out a way to get CG's.

I'm sure Bungie will have learned from thier mistake with Halo 3. 300,000 Players and someone found out a way to unearth hidden features. Reach's Beta is expected to have 3,000,000 players, about ten times Halo 3's numbers, so it's logical to assume that if Bungie hides a feature then the players will find it.

Short story, they'll not make the mistake of putting in a feature they don't want players to use.

Customs would be great, will be great, but I'm happy enough getting the Beta, there's more than enough features in it already. Almost too generous.

I hope so. I want another one like Once More Unto the Breach. Made me so pumped. The April one does count. :p

Nearly 900,000 played the Halo 3 Beta, IIRC.

As to the features....yeah. This is way, way bigger than the Halo 3 Beta.

Modders will destruct the beta finding every last hex value and hidden piece of information that's even remotely informative.

Then there will be a lot people starting custom games just to try and break features, and maps, like the Valhalla banshee trick.

I wonder where I got that 300,000 number from? :lol

Hoping we can find out about the Theatre mode this week. I wasn't aware at how limited the mode was in the H3 beta.

Also, anyone know the main topics for the podcast today? Obviously Reach centric but I can't recall any specifics offhand.

Earth is a diverse place. It doesn't all have to look like freaking High Ground. You people really think that another inhabitable world would be an exact copy of Earth?

I remember having to watch like a 10 minute game just to see one really sweet sniper shot I made at the end in the Beta :(

You know they have shown barely a fraction of both the campaign spaces, and mp maps right? :lol

It will be more diverse in final release, they are just being rather hush hush right now.

Right, because that's exactly what I said.

Right. The three total minutes you've seen of campaign is representative of the entirety of it. This doesn't look like High Ground.
One of the maps does - Powerhouse. But more to the point, I think the levels we've seen in campaign are the same missions the maps are from, for the most part. So they all look similar.

If you take out the skybox from the first Halo, and swap the Forerunner architecture for human structures, it would look like earth. Halo's worlds have always had that mix of the familiar and the alien - a big, green vista with trees with alien buildings and the giant ring arching into the sky. Reach looks similar to me, with an earthy ground, and an alien sky. And I suspect there's a lot more to the game that we're not seeing.

Are you new to sci-fi? Human friendly atmospheres and climates are generally portrayed to be Earth like simply because Humans don't have a high tolerance of exotic levels of other gases in an environment. The Earth model produces the right mixture we need to breathe so it's used as a template for any worlds where humans could live.

Realistic? Explore the universe and report back. Bring back the diamond of Jupiter with you, if you have the spare time.

Attempting to relate to the thread.. plans were axed for several weeks in Ohio and I am no longer heading there. So come May 3rd, ODST will be in the disc tray. :D

Also, let the floodgates open! Let HaloGAF talk about something other than um.. poop and.. Reach vs. Earth

I agree. I don't know why you guys are saying Halo won't have varied levels. Halo has had some of the most. From grassy, deserts, inside, etc.. great level designs.
