Halo Script Review Online

Yes folks, we at Latinoreview got ourselves the multimillion-dollar script of Halo by Alex Garland! I had to pull some Sam Fisher Splinter Cell moves to get it – but we got it. Let’s see, they paid Alex Garland $1 million bucks to write it, they sold it to Universal and Fox for $5 million bucks plus 10 percent of the gross. And they gave a seven-figure deal to both Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh to exec produce the movie. A $10 million dollar script – at least. Wow. The question: Is the script any good? My answer?

Hell yeah, baby! This script rocks man. The script is so damn good and entertaining that I read it more than once. A tour de force. The clowns at the other studios who passed on this are gonna lose their jobs when this movie comes out and opens huge. Whoever at the other studios thought that this script wasn’t up to snuff can kiss my ass. Idiots. You think Peter Jackson is going to get involved with a property if the script royally sucked?! I think not.

"How violent is it? It’s the Saving Private Ryan of video game movies. We got headshots, bodies being cut in half by the swords of the Stealth Elite. We see what kind of damage plasma grenades can do and yes we get to see the horror of flood infection vessels – heads snapping back and torsos exploding."

sweet.

the guy is wrong about Silent Hill though...

Dammit. Now I have to tread carefully in all Halo-related threads from now until the movie is out to avoid spoilers. :(

What are my orders?” Now that is dialogue. That is cool. You don’t even have to be a fan of the game to know that in movie talk, those 4 words speak volumes about his character and what he does. A guy who gets the job done. That is the dialogue of a shit kicker who does what he does and the following is an example."

lol, this guy is just pissing himself, all from this one line of MC dialogue

saying tour de force means it will suck

he actually says "tour de force" again in the review, lol

lol, MC isn't black

MC sustained an injury with his tussle with the Ghost – MC removes the breastplate of his armor. Beneath is a black body suit made of flexible material, and on this body suit, we can see various lacerations around his torso. Through these lacerations, MC’s torso is partially revealed, and we catch our first glimpse of his actual flesh. His skin is colored an abnormal sunless snow-white.

MC removes his helmet – his skin is bleached white and his head his shaved to the scalp.

i wonder if they are contracting that guy who made the MC suit in his parents basement, really interested to see how they do that. Will it be like gollum or live actor in a MC suit

I really hope this turns out to be a good film...

One thing that I have to wonder about is the audio. Marty's music is a HUGE part of the Halo experience. On one hand, I wouldn't want him spending too much time with a movie (as I'd prefer him to be working on the next game), but on the other hand, I can't imagine anything "Halo" without him on board. I'd hate to see Halo show up with some generic film score...

I mean, that's one thing that really has me excited about the Silent Hill film. The fact that Yamaoka is directly involved and creating the audio/soundtrack could really allow the film to FEEL like Silent Hill.

I just hope it doesn't come out with the latest linkin park and disturbed songs in it. I'll commit suicide. Does MS have any input on the movie? I hope so

Right you are. The soundtrack in Silent Hill is almost half the experience.
Having Yamaoka involved on such a level is GENIUS.

so i'm reading this "review" and it sounds a lot like fan fiction to me thus far (not done yet).
so far, its like an exact retelling of halo 1?

EDIT: skimmed the rest. definitely bullshit.

Latino Review is a highly credible source though. The script isn't an exact retelling as it fleshes out areas that the game never covered and the Fall of Reach sequences sound awesome!

No real gripes from the review other than MC removing his helmet in Act 2 but you never get a full on look at him so the gripe is minor. Can't wait to see who they get to direct now! :D

I read it to and I thought that exact same thing. I just didn't call BS because I have no idea how reliable/unreliable of a source latinoreview.com is. =p

It would be cool if they went with a Lord of the Ring "Epic" type of scope, spanning 3 Halo movies. This is all if the movie doesn't suck to begin with, i'm hoping it turns out good.

wtf does this dueche bag know about scripts?

but then they would have to make the second movie 2 hours too short, provide nothing new worthwhile, and give it a non-existent ending

I remember Latinoreview also craving about BB(Batman Begins) script saying it was the best superhero script they've ever read, BB turn out to be the best superhero movie. so I definitely trust them, the movie is sounding awesome a game to movie adaptation that's actually good? who would have thought?

Yeah, the ending from Halo 2 would actually be PERFECT for a movie...

LatinoReview is generally a good site in terms of information, they don't bullshit about scripts usually.

That said, on the other side of the coin, they're absolutely awful at criticizing what they get to any realistic degree.

Is it just me, or does this sound incredibly fake?
why would a site like Latinoreview be doing that? they don't need that kind of shit.

If it did come as a 3 movie epic it would be good for the 2nd movie. Basically follow the timeline as told in the games.

Their opinion may not be trustworthy, but if they say they got the script and read it, then they have. LatinoReview is one of the top sites for movie leaks/news.

for comparation check out his BB script review guy doesn't know how to write but he is reliable.

Before I go on with the review I want to say a big FUCK YOU to the player haters who ENVY my script gathering skills and diss me on my “critical analysis” skills. You know who you are. I’m not some screenwriting guru. I’m not out to be Robert McKee or Michael Hauge. I’m not here to break down beats, plot points, screenplay structure, formatting, etc., The general movie going audience doesn’t give a shit about that stuff. They only want to know if the fucking thing is going to be entertaining. If you screenwriting wannabe’s want an in depth screenwriting analysis, then wait till the film comes out, go get any of the fine screenwriting publications out there, like creative screenwriting or script magazine, who do that sort of thing. While I’m on the subject, I will say this about the Batman screenplay, the structure is laid out well with very strong act breaks. As a matter of fact, it has one of the better structures I have seen in some time.

keep reading everything he said turn out to be true.

Precisely. This is the truth.

provide nothing new worthwhile? aside from the political struggles and complete reorginization of the covenant? including making elites (and likely hunters and grunts) at least temporary on the same side of humans? including the background on the flood and the introduction to gravemind and his capturing of cortana? please.

oh, and thanks for the background on the site. i would have never guessed latinoreviews could actually be a trustworthy, let alone well known, site for this type of stuff.

if it is indeed legit, it sounds cool. they are following halo 1 nicely, it sounds violent as all hell, and doesnt betray the halo universe created by the games. and yeah, sounds like they'd be making the trilogy to mirror the games then i guess.

I'm glad this site is reliable because it sounds really good to me. Thinking of the war on Planet Reach with WETA's amazing graphic work makes me excited :D It's in good hands so far, Alex Garland and Peter Jackson are very talented and huge fans of Halo.

Who is directing or have they not gotten that far yet?

If not, I want this man to direct a Halo movie: Paul Verhoeven

frankie said there are several names right now, all of which are very exciting. no comments cause they dont want to screw any deals up.

EDIT:
The next big announcement from that front will likely be the identity of the director. We've had some names bandied around, and they're all froth-worthy. I wish I could gossip and chatter about this stuff, but we don't want to jinx anything.

i hope they nail either spielberg or ridley scott

spielberg would help more with the characters but both directors have shown they can show real GRIT.

Suitably epic, can't wait!

I'm glad we don't see his face, just cut shots of his eyes and mouth and all the real scars of battle that the Mjolnir armour doesn't show!

Reading about that Spartan that got the plasma grenade stuck on him definitly made me wince.

I'm just happy to hear that the script puts the movie in a hard R rating. I hope the script survives to the screen. Not because I love ultra-violence, but because it fits the subject matter.

I love how Microsoft execs are forcing Halo the movie down Movies exec's throats....

It'll probably end up like Doom the movie.

A big Meh.

The opening scene sounds awesome. The rest sounds decent at least.

Im glad MC is all fucked up under the suit, i would have had to yell out at the screen if he took off his helmet to reveal a pretty boy.

Seems like they've nailed the aspect that he's human, but not like us.

The reach stuff totally goes against the nylund books though, which Im sure will bring about much a bitchin' about nothing. Not from me though.

A big Meh.

How are they forcing it down movie execs throats? They touted it around studios like most scripts are.

Could be interesting, but I still get sick to my stomach when I think I actually PAID MONEY to see the DOOM movie!! I want to believe this could be good but Hollywood track record is a bit spotty when it comes to comic/videogame to movie translations. I won't get my hopes up.

Also, ever heard of this site until today. So we'll see what happens in time.

They better have a flashback of how/why the spartans were originally created and give some backstory from the book "Halo: Fall of Reach" to make the movie truly epic. You can't just throw the audience into an intergalactic war and not give some background depth.
