According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Da Vinci Code director Ron Howard and star Tom Hanks are in final talks to return for the prequel Angels & Demons.

The trade says that Columbia Pictures, which benefited from "Da Vinci's" $758 million worldwide box office earnings, has set an early January start date and has hired A-list casting directors Jane Jenkins and Debbie McWilliams to fill out the thriller's supporting roles.

Akiva Goldsman is adapting Dan Brown's novel, in which Harvard professor Robert Langdon tries to solve a murder and unravel a plot by an ancient group, the Illuminati, to blow up the Vatican during a papal conclave.

The studio is eyeing a December 19, 2008 release.

dvc was horrible. during the entire movie, hanks looked like he had to take a shit. this will be bad, too.

Angels and Demons is weaker as a story, IMO, and that can be pretty bad.

Especially when Langdon jumps out of the helicopter lololol

I thought Angels and Demons was by far the better story.... but god another movie like this is goign to suck.

To me, what makes the books good is the finding of a clue and then the discussion, historical background, realization/pathway to the solution. But in the movies, it is "find a clue, and Tom Hanks thinks about it for 5 seconds and figures out what it means".... So sucky

Angels and Demons is more entertaining, but neither is great. At least I know I can skip this one altogether since my least favorite trio in the business is one this one - Hanks/Howard/Goldman. Yuck.

Angels and Demons was the better book anyway. They just made the Da Vinci Code first to cash in on the controversy it was surrounded with at the time.

Phoenix Dark is moist with anticipation.

Don't jump to any conclusions. Will Smith hasn't been announced as costarring yet.

I hear he is slated to play Tom Hanks's hairpiece.

I got about halfway through Angels and Demons before I tossed it. Dan Brown should be writting Hardy Boys books, or maybe Scooby Doo episodes.

A&D completely falls apart in the end. Like, to the point of ridiculousness. I don't know if Brown was trying to reach the most convoluted and nonsensical conclusion possible, but mission accomplished.

Not starring Tom Hanks, helmed by Ron Howard, and written by Akiva Goldsman it wont.
QFT. Angels & Demons is the better book -- save for the whole helicopter sequence and "The pope was your father!" -- and would've made a much more interesting adaptation, but any anticipation I'd've had for it has been killed off.

Hrmm, A&D is actually the better of the two in my mind. The end tends to be a bit much. But for the most is was good. IMO.

Well said. They're both average books with ridiculous scenes, I still can't believe how popular this guy became.
