'Hap And Leonard’ Nearing Season 2 Renewal At SundanceTV

The network is looking for a new showrunner, we’re hearing, so all the pieces haven’t formally come together yet. But if it does, James Purefoy, who plays blue-collar ex-con Hap Collins, and Michael Kenneth Williams as his unlikely partner and Vietnam vet Leonard Pine would both return. Like Season 1, Season 2 would be for six episodes.

The plan is for Season 2 to be based on Landale’s 1994 book Mucho Mojo, the second in the Hap and Leonard series. It revolves around the death of Leonard Pine’s Uncle Chester who happens to live next to a crack house. Under the floorboards of his uncle’s house the two discover the skeleton of an infant wrapped in child pornography. Leonard refuses to believe his uncle could be involved so he enlists the help of Hap to solve the murder and clear his uncle.

I'm only just now hearing about this series, why isn't this getting more buzz? You'd think people would be in for Michael Williams and Christina Hendricks alone.

I'm intrigued by the novels as well, they seem to have an interesting character about them.

Looking forward to diving in.

- Deadline: Brian Dennehy To Recur On ‘Hap & Leonard’ Season 2
Brian Dennehy has joined the Season 2 cast of SundanceTV’s Hap & Leonard in a recurring role. He’ll play Valentine Otis, a sheriff and all-around boss-hog in Marvel Creek.

Hap & Leonard was created by director-writer Jim Mickle and writer Nick Damici based on Joe R. Lansdale’s novels. Season 2 will be based on Lasndale’s 1994 book Mucho Mojo, the second in the Hap & Leonard series, which revolves around the death of Leonard Pine’s Uncle Chester.

Does it get good? I only watched the 1st episode when it premiered and never really got into it.

Most people seem to like it but I watched the whole first season and it never really clicked for me. Love the cast but something about the writing and everyone's interactions with each other feel fake or off to me, can't really explain it.

Along with Dennehy, the network announced additional cast as production begins on the second season. Irma P. Hall (A Family Thing) joins as recurring, along with Dohn Norwood (All the Way, Hell on Wheels), and Tiffany Mack (Wicked Love) and Cranston Johnson who board as series regulars.

Episodes will be directed by Maurice Marable (Veep), Abe Sylvia (Nurse Jackie) and Tim Southam (Hell on Wheels).

Hall will play MeMaw, the neighborhood matriarch and a confidant to Hap and Leonard; Norwood is Reverend Fitzgerald, a charismatic preacher and MeMaw’s grandson; Mack will portray Florida Grange, Leonard’s lawyer and the object of Hap’s deep admiration; and Johnson is Detective Hanson who finds Hap and Leonard in the way of his murder investigation at every turn.
