BURBANK, Calif. - Warner Bros. Pictures on Thursday announced that it has moved back the release date of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" to summer 2009.
The sixth installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise will now open July 17. It was originally scheduled to open Nov. 21.
"Like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers' strike. We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July," said Alan Horn, president and chief operating officer.
"The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future Harry Potter films. The studio's release plans for the two-part 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' will not be affected by this change," said Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.

Her-my-oh-nee
This is how it's supposed to be pronounced, right? They even detail it in the book where... Crum? can't say her name right so she pronounces it phonetically for him? My dad and I were so pissed/confused that they call her "Her-My-Nee" in the movies, WTF. Rowling worked on this shit with them, why'd she let them do that? There was even some huge Harry Potter dictionary online when the first few books came out that had sound files of everything's pronunciation and even they said it was Her-My-Oh-Nee. *facepalm*

They wouldn't need writers for an already written book if they stuck to the story :O

Pretty sure its just the actor's accent muddling it to your ears.

Fuck you, Warner Brothers. This was suppose to be the highlight of my November. Now all I have to look forward to is the end of the semester.

I don't think so. There is a very distinct difference in the way you say "Her-My-Oh-Nee" and the way you say "Her-My-Nee". Notice that the second pronunciation completely leaves out an entire syllable. I don't think I've heard any character in any of the movies put the "oh" in her name.

As for why you can blame the Writers' Strike here, it's less that HBP isn't ready but that other films aren't, which means that WB needs a big summer tentpole and isn't content with just Terminator. So, they move HBP, have its film and DVD results pad out its 2009 to overcome any deficit the strike might create, and voila - with TDK already making them more than enough money to call 2008 a success, they're spreading out their financial winfalls.

It's sketchy, since it keeps the film on the shelf pretty well completely done, but it might give them more time to finesse the editing (a problem in any HP film) and to maybe improve on the effects work a little. The other benefit is that, for those strange people only watching the movies, the pervasive sense that this is just an overblown prologue for the final film will be less annoying when the next film is only 15 months away instead of 24.

As for the above suggestion that this overlong and filler-driven book could be put to screen without adaptation...yeah, no.

Not surprising. I'd be expecting to see a lot more of the movie than we've seen lately. I was just waiting for the official word.

tsk tsk tsk. Thats a lot of time! 8 more months of post-production seems retarded to me!

Quantum of Solace will own the Fall season confirmed!

damn. I suppose that gives me more time to read it again.
I'll be reading the 5th book of the Song of Ice and Fire series twice now because of this and probably reading the 6th and 7th books of potter again...

Are they at least going to start the production of the Deathly Hallows movies as scheduled? It already is a stretch to take the actors as the age the characters are supposed to be.

nah... i actually think the age thing has turned out well to be honest, alot better than I had first imagined. It states that Deathly Hallows wont be affected, granted we must take all this with a grain of salt.

I dont see why not. Half-Blood Prince is done and in post-production.

I suppose this move has got more to do with Deathly Hallows filming. I think they'll start in November and wrap it up just in time to do promo for Half Blood Prince. Less in between times between the 3 movies.

The Joker would like to have a word with you.

I was thinking about suggesting that the joker has a pencil for him.. but I really think quantum of solace will be exceptional.

btw, is showing someone a pencil like the new middle finger/bird.. I'd just like to know so I'm not being offensive to anyone. Or do you have to stab in into a table for it to mean something?

:( Probably pushed back Deathly Hallows in the process, and that's the one I really want to see on film.

Learn to read, both of you.

This is lame. Even though this series tends to be more horrible than not, I'd still rather see it 'round Christmas time than as just another summer blockbuster.

Hermione is not an uncommon name in Britland, I'm pretty sure a bunch of British actors, dialogue coaches, and the rest of the huge-budget film set would know if it were being pronounced wrong.
