But yeah, if this is true = ARRRGHH! :(
ARRRGHH!!

FUCKING BAH

Thanksgiving break /cooler weather + soon to be Christmas break + Bond + Gears of War 2+ Potter + Barack mothafuckin Obama as my president was going to make one hell of a November.

I'm assuming the first Deathly Hallows film will most likely be slated for November/December. Man I hope it's December. At the moment the only competition Cameron has to squash in December 09 is Disney's 2D return with The Princess and the Frog.

1. please stop bringing up Avatar at every possible opportunity; it's getting rather old
2. Deathly Hallows (part 1) isn't out until November 2010. Not sure what led you to think otherwise.

Chillout, dickwad.

Hermione is not an uncommon name in Britland, I'm pretty sure a bunch of British actors, dialogue coaches, and the rest of the huge-budget film set would know if it were being pronounced wrong.
Yes that's what I thought too, which is why I made another post that you might not have seen, where I said "Didn't Rowling work on these movies? Why do they say it incorrectly if she did?" because in the books there is a scene where Hermione blatantly pronounces her name for Victor and I'm pretty sure she says it "Her-my-oh-nee". (Whereas he says something like "Her-mo-nih-nee")

It's been a while since I've read it, and feel free to prove me wrong, but that's just always bothered me with the movies. My family saw the first trailer and collectively went, "Wait, what?"

No doubt. It's shit like this makes me pissed off i'm not in charge of these types of things.

Next Summer is already going to be pretty bare due to the strike - particularly compared to this summer - so I'm not sure one can say with certainty that it would have made more this Fall than it will next Summer.

This winter or next summer, this film is already going to be saddled with the fact that there's really no Potter synergy to market the films on anymore since the books are done.

Next summer is going to be bare? What?
From the top of my head I can think of some May-July releases that include:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Star Trek
Bruno
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins
Up

Then I'm sure there's more shitty sequels on the way. I'm pretty sure Disney are releasing another national treasure and there will be more shit like that.

This didn't make sense to me at first, but now I think I understand. This really doesn't have to do with the writer's strike messing up production of Potter, but the fact that it delayed other projects that might have been scheduled for Summer 09. So to make sure they at least have 1 huge movie coming out this summer, they push Potter back. It's not like it really matters when Half Blood Prince comes out, it'll make bank either way.

I really don't know why some of you are saying this will make less money because it's being released in July. Order of the Phoenix was released in July, and Prisoner of Azkaban was released in June. Those films did fine...

This is all cool with me. Gives Bond room to stretch his legs.

The new trailer had me pumped.

Hype on back burner now.

Yeah, that's the worst part. While I try not to really make any judgment based on a trailer (good or bad), that was one of the best trailers I've ever seen ... disregarding my better judgment, I am (was?) pumped!

I believe Prisoner of Azkaban has the lowest domestic box-office take of the series, and it's arguable whether Order of the Phoenix's take was due to the fact that it coincided with alot of Potter hoopla in the book series.

IT'S AN ACCENT. "HER-MY-NEE" IS JUST "HER-MY-OH-NEE" SAID FASTER.

Everyone just wanted to see Jarvis Cocker and Johnny Greenwood on stage at Hogwarts.

I think she was just going slow for him. It's pronounced Her-my-nee if you're going fast. I was in 6th grade when my teacher was reading it to us and I remember her not knowing how to pronounce it. She looked it up and found out it was a common British name and pronounced something like Her-my-nee.

God. 6th grade. I started this series in the 5th grade and now I'm going to 3rd year uni. The movie probably won't be done until my final year of school or maybe after I graduate. I can't believe it's been so long.

I laughed a lot at my brother (who is a huge HP fan) after hearing this. A lot of the diehard HP fans were posting comments that seemed like they were gonna commit suicide after hearing the news :lol

But that is a huge delay, instead of the moving being released 3 months from now, it's now almost a year away.

Here's crossing my fingers, based on those pics, that they open with the bridge collapse still - great to see that Snape/Narcissa's prologue is still in.

I don't think there was any danger of that getting cut.

You have more faith than I do in the adaptation of these films: while my faith in Yates is growing, I would still worry that there would be some attempts to take an EXTREMELY literary prologue structure and mess with it for the sake of cinematic effect, and to the detriment of the strange but compelling "second prologue."

Don't really have much faith in Yates. I just feel the scene is too important to shelve. It clues us in on the motivations of Malfoy, and serves as a foil to Snape's true intent.

According to Fox News, this is the real reason the film is being delayed:

Harry Potter Scared by Horse

Friday, August 15, 2008

By Roger Friedman

A naked Harry Potter has scared off the movie "Harry Potter."

Warner Bros. has announced moving its sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," from Nov. 21, 2008, to July 17, 2009. The reason? Officially, there is no reason, except that "a spot opened on the summer schedule."

That's not much of a reason. The real story? Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will be right in the middle of his sensational, highly publicized run on Broadway in the play, "Equus." Radcliffe appears naked in the play, on stage, and has sex in it as well. That's not the image Warner Bros. wants associated with bespectacled Harry, who remains chaste and virginal.

Indeed, posters for Equus are up all over New York, of Radcliffe's naked torso superimposed on a horse's head. This is not the sort of thing that's taught at Hogwarts. For the movie to open on Nov. 21, Radcliffe would have to do publicity entailing answering questions about blinding horses and having sex with them vs. flying around and making potions.

Warner Bros. does not want this scenario. By the time "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" debuts, "Equus" will either have concluded its run or Radcliffe will have completed his contract. And there will be little mention of any horsing around.

In not-100%-related-but-might-as-well-post-it-here news...
Leaky cauldron linked to a few pics of what seems to be a exterior prop from the upcoming HP theme park at Universal.
Hogsmeade!! Can't wait to check out the finished park. :]

Gotta take what we can get!

It sounds soooooooo disappointing. ESPECIALLY the ending. That's the one thing that seemed the hardest to screw up!

Maybe this is the real reason for the delay? God, I hope so.

Okay, totally agree on the bullshit ending changes that make no sense, but the middle stuff...it's not the film's fault that Rowling underwrote the HBP plot and overwrote the romance stuff. Mind you, I'd hope Kloves could have fixed that, but that's expecting a lot.

That being said...

Confirmation of this earlier hope of my own pleases me: that they got rid of Scrimgeour, though, pleases me considerably less. They just can't win with this series, can they?

this sucks, but really not that unexpected...the usual fast editing, characters reduced to a zero, no continuity, basically just like 4 and 5

like I said, Potter movies stopped being good with Azkaban. I'd even rate the Columbus ones higher than 4 and 5

I was at the screening on Saturday and I do have to agree with some of the points in the AICN reviews such as the romance plot being at the forefront too much and how the Half Blood Prince's book not getting the screen time or story significance it should. However the flashback scenes and the style in which they're shot and transitioned to are quite cool and the scene with Harry and Dumbledore in the cave getting the Horcrux was quite cool. Another thing I was somewhat surprised by was how there seemed to be a lot of blood in this movie. Now the action isn't violent or anything but there was a lot of pools of blood or bloddy Harry. Perhaps that will be toned down since the film hadn't gone through the final color correction and various treatments like that.

Wow. And I thought my expectations were already low for this before. They just about took out everything that was good.
