I think the interview is real.
Hell, maybe because I want it to be real. Call me a Nintendo fanboy who considers Yamma his own particular guru.
Anyway, here are the reasons why despite all reason I think the interview is real-
1. It might be the latin equivalent of April's Fools but the interview is in English. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty average stuff, it's not Shakespeare, but I don't think it's the work of a foreigner either. So if it's a fake, I don't think it has a Spanish accent (awfully difficult to mock btw, everyone can easily mock most European accents but that one. And Scottish). But of course, the interview was supposedly conducted in Japanese. I'm confused now.
2. The interview is apparently taken from Wired. Those look like pages from Wired magazine. Relatively straightforward to fake, of course, but has anyone actually checked the issue the interview appears to be from?
3. It sounds like the Yamauchi we know and love. There are some outrageous quotes in there to be sure, but in almost all his interviews he's shocked someone. What does he say that is particularly shocking? That Kirby looks homosexual? Come on now, who here honestly doesn't think that Kirby is gay? And he's not bashing Kirby, he says it still is a popular character and uses it as an example of Iwata's skills. Frankly the one truly shocking thing I see in the interview is when he tells off the Microsoft delegation, and Ballmer and others of the MS high command are known for his arrogance. I'm sure Ballmer himself has told many people to suck his balls. Really, who hasn't. :lol
4. What could be a real slip of the tongue is his bashing of the Americans. But apart from them being fat and decadent he doesn't really say anything specially offensive, and the Japanese, at least the older generations, are racist. And what he says appears to be the opinion of most of America's so-called allies, ask any European and he will say something similar. And as people get older, they start to loosen their tongues and stop giving a shit about what the rest of the world thinks. Grandpas say the darndest things...
I say all this because I want the interview to be real and I'm aware my arguments could be considered wishful thinking. But until it's known for sure that it's a fake there's a ray of hope that it is not. Quite simply, Nintendo needs a PR man of Yamma's calibre. Reggie is a ant in the heap of shit compared to Yamauchi.
