Has senility finally caught up with Yamauchi? Amazing interview!

I just found this (there's a spanish translation at the bottom, for those interested). Looks like a scan from the next issue of Wired, featuring an interview with Yamauchi. I knew he was insane, but not this much. Must be senility -a serious case.

Without further ado, enjoy:

I stopped reading after the first couple of lines, scanned down through the whole thing, saw the highlighted quotes and: :lol

edit - for the unaware: this isn't real. FAKE!

I don't understand why someone wasted all that time...:\ Especially if they weren't going to make any attempt at making it sound real. If the entire thing sounded real with just one off-beat (but still Japanese-centric) comment, it'd do a much better job of fooling somebody.

DAMN! How can you not like this bastard? Huh? Makes me wanna get a GC just because of this mofo

Edit: fake...oh well :D if he was like that I would buy a DS or GC in a second

LOL today is the spanish equivalent of April's fools day. Glad to see our fine devotion to this celebration hitting GAF with another outrageous prank :lol :lol :lol

I've actually had the honor to meet and interact with Yamauchi. He is very cordial and extremely intelligent.

I would argue that alot of the perception about him is a result of 1) mistranslation 2) fanboys who don't seem to understand that Nintendo isn't going to do what they want them to do 3) some mistakes he himself as made that he now regrets.

He isn't a perfect guy, but it is hard to dislike him if you have met him (imho).

Yamauchi may be crazy, but he would never bash the americans open like that especially since the western market is extremly important for Nintendo today. From a busniess standpoint it's not very smart to make comments like that, and if it's anything he knows it's business.

Also it isn't Mikami's fault that RE4 went into the hands of PS2. Clearly fake, but a good laugh :lol :lol

Kandisky , still waiting for you . Don´t you have your pass ?

And please , post it where we both know .

this interview had me laughing with "Hey Ballmer, why dont you suck my tiny yellow balls?" :lol

I read that and my first thought was "wow. Tim Rogers can't write satire well." You'd think a dedicated Japanophile like himself would at LEAST get the idioms right.

" PSP is probably the worst concept for a handheld device I've ever seen. And I know I released the Virtual Boy."

"If he wants to play during recess he will have to leave the game loading during class"

Quality :lol

I think the interview is real.
Hell, maybe because I want it to be real. Call me a Nintendo fanboy who considers Yamma his own particular guru.
Anyway, here are the reasons why despite all reason I think the interview is real-

1. It might be the latin equivalent of April's Fools but the interview is in English. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty average stuff, it's not Shakespeare, but I don't think it's the work of a foreigner either. So if it's a fake, I don't think it has a Spanish accent (awfully difficult to mock btw, everyone can easily mock most European accents but that one. And Scottish). But of course, the interview was supposedly conducted in Japanese. I'm confused now.

2. The interview is apparently taken from Wired. Those look like pages from Wired magazine. Relatively straightforward to fake, of course, but has anyone actually checked the issue the interview appears to be from?

3. It sounds like the Yamauchi we know and love. There are some outrageous quotes in there to be sure, but in almost all his interviews he's shocked someone. What does he say that is particularly shocking? That Kirby looks homosexual? Come on now, who here honestly doesn't think that Kirby is gay? And he's not bashing Kirby, he says it still is a popular character and uses it as an example of Iwata's skills. Frankly the one truly shocking thing I see in the interview is when he tells off the Microsoft delegation, and Ballmer and others of the MS high command are known for his arrogance. I'm sure Ballmer himself has told many people to suck his balls. Really, who hasn't. :lol

4. What could be a real slip of the tongue is his bashing of the Americans. But apart from them being fat and decadent he doesn't really say anything specially offensive, and the Japanese, at least the older generations, are racist. And what he says appears to be the opinion of most of America's so-called allies, ask any European and he will say something similar. And as people get older, they start to loosen their tongues and stop giving a shit about what the rest of the world thinks. Grandpas say the darndest things...

I say all this because I want the interview to be real and I'm aware my arguments could be considered wishful thinking. But until it's known for sure that it's a fake there's a ray of hope that it is not. Quite simply, Nintendo needs a PR man of Yamma's calibre. Reggie is a ant in the heap of shit compared to Yamauchi.

I´m not that sure that is real , but it doesn´t sound that bizarre to me .

Come on , is Yamauchi , what do you expect him to say ?

I searched for "Jack Gleason" on the Wired website. The article says he's been freelancing since 2002, but the site doesn't spit back any results.
