Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

Played the demo for a bit, looks pretty good. Was surprised to see you can get safes on star notes now.

EDIT: oh god I was not prepared for high speed and shy target at the same time

Sounds fun :D This will be the first thing I download when I get my internet up and running
tomorrow :3

I'm going to bed before this finishes uploading, but I recorded a quick gameplay video here: http://youtu.be/dpPATTyVawA

This was recorded totally blind; I hadn't tried any of the charts beforehand. Also, combining High Speed and Shy Target on the fastest song of the three was probably not the best of ideas...

YOu got an "almost flawless"-like run on the first try , lol.

Thanks for the vid ..in think in understand better the double notes now ..

I think that it's great that they are putting the modules in the demos now...

Your second run with the challenge was especially crazy ...

FOr the 3rd song , the star reversal in the middle was a little evil , nice trap i would have probably fallen the same way you did into it.

Any thanks for the vid

Played the demo for a bit. I quite like it, more than I thought I would. Some impressions:

- star notes are still not as harshly judged as normal notes, even with the new "SAFE". I was worried for a bit there.
- the new star notes are a nice variation. The connected ones can catch you off-guard, if you look ahead too much (like in the third song, when they suddenly bounce back). The double notes make it a bit harder. Especially if it immediately switches back to normal button notes. I couldn't get my hands back in position fast enough.
- The screenshot function doesn't work! Hope that's just in the demo. Don't remember if it was the same for the demo of the first game.
- I'm not sure I can resist importing this. Will be pretty pissed, if it's announced for the West shortly afterwards again, though. Especially since I'd probably go for the Vita version. But it's just so much fun.

Did they mention if costume DLC from the first game will be compatible with this?

Just played the demo. Not too bad. Wasn't as exciting since 3 out of the 4 songs were ones we've seen before.

There were four songs? Pretty sure I only saw 3.

I love that new character animation for Perfect.

Miku's all like FUCK YEAH
(demo does not allow screencaps for some reason, had to do it the old fashioned way)

Free time has not been forthcoming to update this thread yet, and the backlog is horrifyingly large at this point D:

But, quick update: 11/5 is MEIKO's birthday and there are some wallpapers for everyone to download for the occasion (click through to the article for other resolution choices):

Don't forget to visit MEIKO's room in DIVA F also!

That's some fine cover work, What is that with the CD? A vinyl? or is it a book or sorts?

CD size = regular edition
LP size = limited edition, hardbound sleeve and looks like this inside (scrounged pic, I'm not near my camera at the moment):

Both versions come with a CD and a DVD, but there are more videos on the Limited Edition DVD.

the album art is by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Gonna put this thing on the wall! (CD & DVD are in spare DVD cases at the moment)

I'm hearing we now have a date for Project DIVA F 2nd per gaming magazine leaks. We're on for March 6, 2014, at 7350 yen. Unclear if this applies to the PS3 version, Vita version, or both.

Not a bad date, but I was hoping for February.
Also hoping the Vita version is somewhat less expensive!

This also explains why Hm? Ah, Yes has been stuck in my head literally all day.

Another March game, there's so much releasing in February/March already. I guess I'll wait two or three month for a localization announcement and then import if nothing comes.

ugh fuck this thread is reminding me that i need to bust open my copy of project diva f, i had a lot of fun with the demo even if vocaloid doesn't do anything for me

anyways, i'm pretty much always looking for good stuff to play on my jp 3ds, would project mirai appeal to me if i dig project diva (or really any rhythm game) but i'm not a big vocaloid person (although maybe that's a tricky question to answer, ahaha)

Project mirai is a pretty good game on its own merits; it isn't all that much like Project DIVA at all. I'm anxiously awaiting my copy of Project mirai 2 as we speak (come on AmiAmi take my money already)

Whelp a new digest video posted that pushed me over the edge. I'm doubledipping Mirai 2. I got the physical with puchi coming, but I ended up also getting it digitally . . . Downloading as we speak.

I MEAN WE GET PUYOPUYO39? BEST VERSION OF PUYOPUYO EVER?

Woke up this morning, immediately watched that video on my phone in a half-asleep state and my confused brain wasn't sure if what I was seeing was real..

My Mirai 2 care package can't arrive soon enough!

Because it's so fucking cute.

Fell asleep on the floor. Dat Hachune drool face.

If folks haven't seen it yet, the Mirai 2 OP ver of the Ageage Again is ZOMG CUTE/

Mirai 2 >> everything.
This game is so damn good.

Favorite songs:

  • Invisible
  • Shinkaijou
  • Doubutsu Uranai
  • Amatsukitsune
  • Clover Club
  • Kokoro
  • Romeo & Cinderella
  • Eearr Fan Club

Straight hits.

So far I've cleared everything except for 4 of the highest difficulty songs, these look really hard. Namely Matroishka, Invisible, Hello/Hawayu and glow. So goddamn tough, and no rhythm game items to save you like the Diva series.

Yeah, I'd have to say this is the best vocaloid rhythm game yet that's nonarcade release or maybe until Diva F2nd.. I get my ass kicked on button mode though, the hold notes here are evil brain confusing unlike Diva. Being told to hold Left but Hit A really frazzles my brain. Ageage Again hard is ARGH.

God damn, I need a Japanese 3ds, and I still want to get the Project Diva F huge controller. I think the latter is going to be my priority in prep for the next game coming soon.

Doubutsu was my favorite song from Mirai 1. :D

I still haven't imported the first Project Mirai. Should I just go straight to the new one, I remember reading it had the songs from the original.

I'll admit, this is the game I imported a JP 3DS for* - and I've not been disappointed. So much fun! This shot sums up my feelings pretty well:

*Bravely Default was another reason, but that gets resolved thanks to a domestic release for me this week :)

So on a whim, I downloaded the Project Diva F demo on PS3. I'd only heard of the series in passing, and just vaguely knew it was a music game. I loved it. I'm a sucker for pretty much any music game.

So I was wondering, where do I start with this series? I see there's games on PSP, 3DS, iOS, Vita, PS3. What titles should I get? I have everything except a Japanese 3DS, so I assume that one's out. Music games tend to overlap/reuse songs so is there ones I should avoid, etc.

Also are there male characters? I don't care too much for the whole dress-up business.

Don't do it. It's probably not going to be compatible due to F 2nd's need for multitouch, which the current large controller lacks.

I'm not sure what that last potshot is about... There's Len and KAITO as far as male characters go but most songs are going to be Miku's considering the series bears her name. Any character customization is completely optional and in most cases only affects background visuals; Project mirai (3DS) has some songs that switch vocals based on chosen character but this is not something done for the other games.

Project DIVA F for PS3 (and f for Vita coming to NA/EU in early 2014 - they're pretty much the same game) is the fourth entry in the series and as good a starting point as any. The previous three entries were on PSP, with optional DLC expansions on PS3 (you have to own both for them to work) and are Japan-only.

The iOS entries are kind of a different beast and I'm not sure I could recommend them for people who don't know some Japanese; the lyric-based input doesn't make for a very fun game without some written Japanese knowledge.

It wasn't a potshot, I have no idea about this series. I just found it weird that in the demo it was all girls and there was a customize option. I'm used to DJ MAX and DDR where there's a balance between male/female/no vocals.

My Japanese isn't great, but I could probably handle the PSP versions. Or are the PS3/PSV versions just better altogether and I should just start there?

EDIT: Oh, so there's no difference between the PS3 and Vita version? I should just grab the PS3 version now then?

Project DIVA is comprised almost entirely of songs that are popular among Japanese listeners out of the ridiculously large field of Internet music producers. Not only are male Vocaloids in the minority (Len and KAITO are the only two under the Crypton Future Media banner) but they are just not as popular as the others. KAITO recently got a Vocaloid3 update so maybe we'll be hearing more songs using him in the near future though.

I personally enjoy playing f on a Vita more because I think the touchscreen mechanic works far better than the analog stick waggling the PS3 version is stuck with. f/F was a fresh new start for the series but F 2nd will have returning songs from older games, albeit with retuned note charts and visuals. If you enjoyed the PS3 demo there's no reason not to get the game though (and you have to do this soon if you want a physical copy; those things seem to be getting scarce!)

This thread is supposed to be largely for import version news but I'm ridiculously behind at the moment due to lack of time (there's a rather large post on F 2nd as well as a video is on Weekly Diva Station now for those interested). For more info on F in particular you can also check out the old OT which I'll probably revamp a bit when we're closer to the Vita version release date.

Yeah I just checked the place I usually order from and they were out of stock! I'll poke around a little bit more but I'll probably cave and buy the digital version. Just looking forward to a good new music game to play. Thanks for your help!
