Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

I must agree to disagree. I know that the screen is precise enough to allow skilled players to master and work with it, but that doesn't change the fact that it is, by design, less precise than pushing a button.

A turntable is an actual physical object that gives physical feedback when used. A touchscreen does not do this, and as such I don't think it's a completely apt comparison.

But clearly neither of us is going to budge on this, so I'll leave it at that. I'm disappointed that they seem to be expanding on this in the sequel. Too much and I might just drop this series, I can't stand the touch mechanics.

Pretty much. Just because you can adapt to something doesn't mean it's good.

When it comes to touch screen and/or motion controls they should always be an option in my opinion.

No no no, you don't actually draw something, it's just that a moving star note creates a shape on the screen, input-wise it's really the same thing as the regular star notes, just shown differently on the screen.

Gameplay-wise the only real new star notes are the "w" double notes, which are exactly what they seem.

...which is exactly why they made the timing window for the star notes very loose. You can't possibly miss them unless you are waaaay off, so why is it that much of an issue? Why is it so bad that they added some variety to the gameplay?

Because it didn't need it, and it doesn't fit with the rest of the game. The whole game is supposed to be focused on these precise button inputs hit in very quick succession - that's what makes it fun. If the timing window is so loose for the stars, then what's even the point?

This is what I play Diva for. Getting lost in the beat and letting my subconscious recognize the inputs and hit every note exactly. Nonsensical gimmicks like the touchscreen mechanics take away from the core of what makes the game so fun in the first place because it isn't as precise. At random points in the songs I'm suddenly forced to jerk my thumbs all the way over to the screen and start rubbing the screen to the beat, praying that my thumb doesn't slip or the Vita doesn't misdetect one of the inputs. It's needlessly complicated at best, and it's not fun and aggravating at worst.

At least they made the analog stick an option in the Vita sequel. I'd take that over this, even if they both suck. :|

The timing window for Cool on scratch notes is identical to that of button inputs. The kludge (which people are reporting is either going away or being lightened in F 2nd) is that there is a much larger Good/Fine window for scratches in f/F, apparently to ease people into learning the input method. Honestly, I didn't think the kludge (which still exists in the PS3 version despite not being mapped to a touchscreen) was necessary at all, and only bred bad habits.

Also, I don't get your remark on having to jerk your thumb to reach the touchscreen. The touchscreen and the buttons are so close I can almost trigger both at once with my thumb alone. It's not a stretch at all to do what the game asks me to do, and I don't find it offputting in the slightest.

But mainly, what I'm trying to understand from this argument: how exactly is the touchscreen not a precise input? The Vita's touchscreen is one of the most accurate touchscreens I've ever used; I never have issues with it not picking up input so long as it's not currently attached to a charger, and even though Project DIVA doesn't make use of it at all, I've never had it incorrectly pick up positional inputs. I dare say the touch screen is even more precise input than the cheap rubber membranes of most controllers, which provide almost no physical feedback and often develop sticking issues; and I can't count the number of times I've had a d-pad trigger diagonals completely unbidden.

I think declaring an input method in general less precise is a slippery slope that you'll find very difficult to prove.

Like any other rhythm game, you adapt and make do with what the game gives you in order to get the best possible scores. When I first started learning how to play Pump It Up, I didn't complain that the diagonal arrows and 5th panel were unnecessary. I sucked it up, got back on and played. The touch input is just as viable as buttons albeit a bit more sensitive as I've had times where the Vita misread an input or dropped it altogether. I am glad for the analog stick option however.

If people are buying F 2nd digitally and are willing to wait, those of us who are getting retail copies can probably share the digital discount codes. I don't think I'm going to be using any of mine, I went retail for both PS3 and Vita.

Is the trophy list out yet? I only want to import if I can 100% it on a UK account...

EDIT: Nevermind, found it, can anyone see anything that may cause problems? (VIta version) http://www.exophase.com/game/初音ミク-project-diva-f-2nd-psn/trophies/

If that's the full list, I don't see anything there that involves DLC.

F 2nd comes with a discount code for the digital version? For the Vita vers? Must've missed that.

I'm considering just importing the PS3 disc copy along with it anyways... it works out about the same when you account for marked up PSN cards

Does anyone know if the edit mode if straight up not available if you don't download the free DLC or if it just adds features to it?
After running that list through Google Translate one of the trophies is called Video Director which sounds like an edit mode trophy, and if you need to download something from the store to use that then you wouldn't be able to get it if you import.

Yeah considering how overpriced Japanese prepaid cards are online, I doubt that the digital rebate will make a big difference versus importing a retail copy, so I decided "to hell with it" and just ordered both.

That's what I was thinking, but it could also be a trophy for watching all PV's or simply doing all the LIVE mode stuff (iirc, In the PS3 version of the last game, you had a LIVE Concert director type mode where you could control the camera angles of the performace)

Yeah, I was considering using the rebate, but the difference seems ever so slight, and I prefer physical copies. I also don't feel too comfortable investing a ton of money into my JP account incase sony stomp down on out of region purchasing some day.

What's the best importer/shipping method? I'm looking at Nippon-Yassan with the translogic shipping at the moment

How much is the digital discount, exactly? My big concern is the single account vita memory cards. :( Still no way to combine imports and domestics on one card, is there?

Well the easiest option would be to order the retail Vita version and then use its rebate for the digital PS3 version.

While we're on the subject of Japanese prepaid cards, I will share my top secret source with you guys:
http://jp-ecards.ocnk.net/product-list/1

Site looks like garbage but I can confirm that it is legit.

While there is still a markup, their prices beat every other source I've found online.

I get mine from here: http://www.japan-codes.com/ and have always had great service.

But yes, there is a markup everywhere you go. Also, while the prices are always quick to jump when the yen is stronger, they take forever to drop when it is weaker.

i dig rhythm games, kind of hate vocaloid j-pop, and live in japan. which would be the best (read: cost-effective) entry point to this series so i feel like i get it without going too deep? are the newer versions functionally better than the old?

Ha! Cool to see that an English version will be released.

I won't be waiting though, grabbing that Japanese PS3 copy ASAP. Might pick up the English Vita release later if I feel like it.

Wonderful! And it's a retail release, too!
Is there any DLC from the first game you can use in the second? If not, I guess I have no reason not to wait for the English release.

Physical for Vita this time as well. Not bad.
Seeing as I already put in for the JP Vita, I'll still pick up the retail PS3 version in English like I did with Diva F.

Can we assume Project f sales were good enough for Sega to release the next one physically?

What's preventing me from quadruple dipping the games is that the save file is not compatible between regions.

I've put over 50 hours on both Japanese versions of the first game, and don't want to start over again, so I've skipped the English releases of both.

SEGA's blog says both PS3 and Vita versions of Diva F 2nd will be physical.
I’m pleased to confirm one of those things right now: We will be releasing a Packaged version of the game for both the Playstation 3 and the PS VITA!

One of the primary comments we saw across the internet over the last year was that PS3 owners loved their physical copies, and that so many PS VITA owners wished one was available. We begin our campaign today by announcing that whichever platform you own, you’ll be able to reserve a physical copy of DIVA F 2nd when it releases!

Wario made a thread on international F 2nd release here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=790613

In the meantime, here's some pics from a few of the many Weekly Diva Station updates I've been neglecting to post here:

Gekishou is coming back to give me and my controllers nightmares, I suppose.

They better make it easier and not ridiculous.

The game is coming over to the west? wat

Oh... Gekishou is back.
... yay... Not that I could ever finish it on Extreme anyhow ;_;

Edit: The trophies looks basically the exact same requirements as the first game, for the most part.
