Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

Got my PS3 copy! Will play it a bit and see how it is when I get home later. Also I had no idea about the pre-order bonus so I was so confused at what came with it lol
 
Nippon-Yasan still hasn't shipped my F 2nd order. I wonder if they're waiting on the Amazon preorder item since I ordered that version :/
 
Managed to get 2 songs in. Games seems quicker to load as mentioned earlier. Still miffed about going through normal and hard though (WTF SEGA!!!).

Also, it had me import my Japanese data, but god knows what it transferred over.

And a calibration tool, finally!!!!

The transfer from the previous game is supposed to carry over your purchased modules and customization items.
 
So the save import feature doesn't seem to actually work across platforms or regions. I tried toying around with my JP Vita version of F (and transferring the file to my PS3 hard drive) and the US PS3 version but it never prompted me to transfer when starting a file.

Across platforms you should be using the transfer tool, but it not working across regions is a given.
 
Played about 10-15 songs, liking it. Just a couple standout songs I really like, but they do seem to be more difficult than PDF1 (and I'm still on Normal).

I'll have to see a menu translation of sorts sometime, I need to adjust the screen to be smaller since it's past my TV's size. D:

I still struggle with the idea of using both the d-pad and face buttons. I know it's pretty vital for Extreme but eesh. It's hard to adjust because I think with the way I play fighters, my mind goes into muscle memory territory. Sticking with thumbs though. Gonna take some time to get used to.
 
The arrow notes in Kagerou Days are murder. Does it help to keep one of the buttons held down during a string of identical arrow notes or do you have to push both of them repeatedly?

I'm the same way. It's a miracle I managed to clear one song on extreme without knowing how..
 
Wow ..i let my guard down because i was on normal difficulty This game is quite harsher than the previous diva games and i've played them all except arcade.

I'm still not a fan of the W , hile getting the timing with a finger something quite easy to do , 2 swipes at the same time in sucession is a little harsher than expected mais be i should be more familiar with it i dunno.

Still the game is much much nicer in term of graphisms than project diva f

So far so good...i need to step-up my game.
 
I am getting destroyed by some songs. On normal even. Geez, whenever chance ends, my body naturally relaxes and messes things up. I can't get above a Standard because of that.

Seems harder than DJ max to me.
 
Not to compete with Star (actually, I was planning on streaming >:O ) but my stream is here if anyone is interested as well. Looking to beat all the songs on normal hopefully tonight.
 
Boy I sure love how all EMS packages I get are always sent to goddamn Mississauga ON so they can add 2-3 days of completely unnecessary domestic transit.

You guys better play twice as hard to compensate for me not having the game this weekend.
 
Ugh, I signed out ready to go to bed then realized I still had to clean up the mess I made setting up the streaming equipment --;

At least it gave me the opportunity to test the cross-save stuff between PS3 and Vita. It's actually quite seamless, everything I did on PS3 carried over no problem.
 
Man, I did not realize how many of these songs were taken from the previous games, I think they should have called this Hatsune Miku's greatest hits. Not only that but the soundtrack this time around is just so poor (in comparison to the great variety F had). Though I suppose I am just off on a tangent because I played most of the songs in one sitting, it feels like Sega really phoned in this game :/

But if you haven't played Portable 1-extend, it may be really good. The songs just feel too fresh to justify putting 16 of them back into this game.

It's been two and a half years since extend - I don't think that is so recent that it could be considered "fresh". But we've known this was coming for well over a year now; the poll that asked players which of the older songs they liked was wrapped up before F 2nd was even announced, and pretty much the entire top 10 of that poll made it in the game (Rollingirl being the only one missing).

I guess it's my fault somewhat for being ignorant due to my own media blackout, but it doesn't excuse the fact that there are too many returning songs. Project Diva f had 32 original songs, and 38 when you consider the ps3 release. Project Diva f 2nd has a total of 35 songs, with only 19 of them debuting for the first time. Also taking into account that these songs (for the most part, I think ONE song is altered) are the same, have essentially the same pv, not sure if it's the same beat patterns (gekishou is for sure different).

All I'm saying is returning songs aren't bad, but some of that space could have been dedicated to unique songs, and the rest charged as dlc as some sort of legacy import (they've already got plans for dlc anyways).

The game just feels like an expansion, not an actual sequel. I guess you can argue that is the nature of rhythm game sequels, but (besides extend) Hatsune Miku games have been pretty good about not feeling like a lazy rehash, introducing a plethora of new songs, while updating the gameplay mechanics for each iteration. I guess the (imo) poor choices for the new songs also stings a little bit.

Sorry for ranting guys, I am just a little disappointed is all. Project Diva F was too good.
 
Could someone with the Vita version clarify if you can use edit mode at all without downloading the DLC? From searching around online it seems like there is a trophy for using edit mode but I can't find a definitive answer on if you can get this trophy without a JP PSN account, with some people saying you can because you can use edit mode without downloading the DLC and some people saying you can't.

I ordered the same version from them and when I asked them about it yesterday they said it would be shipping on Monday.

I have the Vita version and I can confirm you must download the edit mode DLC off the PS Store in order to use it. If you attempt to select the Edit mode from the main menu without it installed, it just shows you an error, informing you that you need to download the edit mode DLC before you can access it.

Are there any frame rate improvements in 2nd? At all? On either version? Or does Dreamy Theater remain the pinnacle of this series' graphics?
 
I'm sure this has been answered before but I wanted to buy Project DIVA F, which versions(PS3/Vita) is better?

Gotta say that I'm not a fan of touching the Vita screen but I love portable gaming. I'm also assuming the Input Lag is not a problem on the Vita.

That's correct. Try giving the demos a shot if you haven't already. I'd recommend portable mostly because it's easier to keep track of notes due to a smaller screen, and music games like this work better as pick-up-and-play. Go through a few songs, suspend it, come back later and play some more.
 
Oh wow they really bumped up the difficulty on the older songs. Just tried Romeo and Cinderella on extreme and it had a much trickier chart than on PD 2nd.

I have to disagree, though that comes from someone who often binges and plays music games for a long time in a session. The ps3 version is much easier to follow thanks to a bigger screen, having a separate controller, and the vita buttons do not feel well suited for the game (or rhythm games in general). That and the sound quality of the music coming from the vita's speakers is not so hot (headphones don't make it any better in my opinion).

The Vita version is definitely the true version of the game, and is what the series is designed for.

The PS3 version exists for either:
1) People who don't own a Vita and don't want one
2) Hardcore fans who also want a prettier version of the game on the big screen

The touchscreen controls are controversial but if you keep an open mind you'll see that they're pretty fun. And if you really can't stand them, good news! The sequel now has the option to use the analog sticks instead, just like the PS3 version.
