Have you ever cut the tip of your finger off? (56k be glad you can't see these pics)

This time I cut the tip of my ring finger off while cutting a bagel. I cut the tip of my thumb of a few years ago, as well (much worse). Makes typing difficult. The bad part is when you have to change the bandage. You have to be careful not to rip it open again.. :(

Bagel Biter

Slice your bagel safely and easily in one swift stroke. The comfortable grip makes pushing through any size bagel a cinch. Clear acrylic blade guards protect your fingers.

I've cut myself really bad like that. But I've never actually went all the way through. I once went into my finger at the top of the nail (part furthest from the end of my finger) and almost went all the way through. That freakin hurt.

I'm sure I could find a way, even with that... :(

I was grating cheese once and somehow my thumb got between my cheese and my cheese grater as I swifty slid it downwards against the sharp metal. I cut a line to around about the middle of my thumbnail, I have no idea how much into the meat it went, because I promptly put a plaster on it and tried to forget about the horror.

That's nothing.

I've seen a girl's hand where she ripped the top 1/3 of the entire finger off. It happened a while ago so she had a nub when I saw it.

Talk about weird.

Sorry about your finger dude.

Thanks. I tried to edit the title to add (warning: pics), but can't do it.

When I cut the tip of my thumb off, I was doing a project that involved a metal ruler and an exacto knife. Didn't notice that my thumb was hanging over the ruler, and slice the tip off. Bad times. It's grown back, and you can't tell now, but I must've cut some nerves as I don't have much sensitivity in there anymore...

j/k. Seriously though, bagels are among the most dangerous things to cut. You end up putting a lot of effort on the knife to cut through the tougher parts and when it breaks through, the knife will just keep on going.

yowch. never cut my finger like that, but i got bit on the left index finger by a moray eel once, and it pretty much got torn to ribbons to the first knuckle.

Ouch, i feel ya. I cut my finger on a table saw. I was told that if i was a split second slower reacting, it would have caught and ripped my finger off. I was bleeding so bad, but I sprayed some stuff on it to make it stop bleeding, went to the doctor and everything was alright. You couldnt tell anything happened if you looked at my finger now.

How the fuck do you cut your finger while slicing a bagel?!?

Do you have physical/mental problems or something?

How can you fuck up such a simple task?

Hey now, it's not hard to mess up and cut yourself when it comes using sharp knives or scissors. People underestimate how easy it is to injure yourself with that stuff. I've never cut the tip of a finger off, but one of my friends did using a paper cutter. I had to get stiches once after an accident with scissors, but that's about the worst damage I've done to my hand.

Working in advertising, I saw my fare share of scalpel incidents resulting in injury... slipped blades, snapped blades flying around from too much pressure etc. Not pretty.

A co-worker also sliced up all 5 fingertips while opening a can of dog food.

Its called slicing away from your hand. You guys should try it. I did cut up my thumb badly with a circular saw when i was little though.

my thumb. no sleep + chopping vegetables.

after that my thumb matched my wife. no sleep + exacto art project for her a few years earlier.

great pics. takes me back to the horror of seeing my bloody flesh wedge sitting on the wooden board amongst the parsley and carrots, mouth agape for those few quiet seconds of "o fuck, i just cut off part of myself". i finished cooking the stew though cuz man i was hungry.

I cut myself with a box cutter today at work. Just sort of sliced into the tip of my thumb while cutting and talking to someone. It wasn't too bad but it was pretty bloody as far as cuts that I've had in a while. Everyone thinks they're not stupid enough to cut themselves when using sharp things. That's why they get careless. It's better to learn with an injury that isn't serious than from a saw or something.

I take it you've never cut/chopped food and accidentially rushed it, right?

When handling sharp objects you damn well better be careful! I'm sure he has enough sense to realize that and is probably why he said that...

Probably the worst thing I've ever done was to my thumb. I punched through a supposed shatter proof window (it had withstood friggin aluminum bat hits) and the glass totally ripped up my thumb.

The only time i've ever cut myself with a knife is when i was washing them, and even then they were minor (though annoying) cuts. i've never cut myself when cutting/chopping/dicing stuff at high speeds. i've come close with dull knives though, especially with rutabagas. i find dull knives are more dangerous since you have to really work the knife at odd angles and the cuts require varying amounts of pressure. Once you know what you're doing, a sharp knife is not as dangerous as you think.

I've yet to slice myself badly with a knife (touch wood). Have had some interesting other mishaps though.

Embedded a woodworking chisel in my palm: word to the wise, when someone points a chisel at you, instinctively putting your hand in the way is a bad idea.

Sliced down to the tendons (thankfully not through them) with the blunt front edge of a tenon saw. . Quite possibly the most annoying injury, ever, as it took ages to repair. Had a bandage on the thumb for 4 weeks, took it off. First fucking time I flexed it, the cut tore open again. Some choice words were said.

Also managed to put a staple through my fingernail and out the other side as a child, when I somehow forgot how to use it.

On a related note, while i was showing a couple some laptops during my employ at Best Buy, i was idly playing with a stapler, running my middle and index fingers under the holes where the staples are ejected out of. i accidentally applied too much pressure and the staple dug as far into both fingers as it could go. i remember stopping my presentation with a casual "...and it looks like i've stapled my fingers together. If you'll just excuse me for a moment..."

Sharp knives i'm good with. Everything else is a potential hazard.

Yeah, it'll grow back. Although I'm sure only up to a point, so I'm glad I didn't cut too much off. When I chopped my thumb which was worse than my finger (be glad I don't have pictures of that..) it grew back, although it took at least a good six months.

It's funny, but the cutting part didn't hurt so much as when I went to the doctor (for my thumb). They gave me a tetnis shot into the cut. Then they slapped some mud type stuff over the cut that hardened to stop the bleeding and protect it from infection. That stuff was worse than the shot, and sent me through the roof with pain which lanced all the way down my arm.

I was cutting food with a new sharp knife and well being the dubass that I am, I held the knife in a akward position and next thing I know, I'm bleeding out 2 both sides of my hand.

Cut the tip of my ring finger off when I was 2 years old. Looks a little bit strange nowadays. I get the a good laugh creeping people of though. The finger looks fine, but when I tap the tip of it on a table it makes a sound like "tick tick" instead of the "thud thud" of a finger with flesh between the skin of the finger and the bone underneath :D

i nearly cut off the tip. it took off a chunk of flesh that was roughly on par with yours but there was still enough skin so that it was hanging like a flap. i closed it off with bandages for over a month, enough for skin to grow and connect the tissue again. the problem was that skin continued forming over the old skin, so it felt like i had a shell on my finger, and i lost feeling in that area for almost a year before it started coming back. 5 years later and my finger looks relatively normal except for a small circular bump where the slice occured.
