Don't want to get too involved into politics but you can't be serious when USA just elected Donald Duck for a second time. I'm british and know we've fucked up but c'mon lol :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I don't like Trump at all but I think he was better alternative to whatever democratic party represented this year.

Meanwhile in Poland we are fucked by center-left government while most Polish people are center-right.

Corect, in the UK you get stabbed instead. Certainly better.
Comparing a stabbing to a mass shooting? Makes sense.

Anyway, don't want to make you think you won this stupid argument but this is a HP thread and I don't want to get banned because of you. Shut the fuck up and get back on topic.

Im messing with ya. Im not American lmao. My point stands. The show will never have a cast similar to the movies. Not with how things are in the UK industry.

Aging up Lily/James/Snape/Lupin/Pettigrew/Sirius (or even the Dursleys/Weasleys) if it meant casting Rickman as Snape....totally worth it.

Anybody who takes the role of Snape is gonna have very fucking big shoes to fill. The same will go for a lot of the characters in the show but Snape is arguably one of (if not) the biggest role to replace outside of Harry, Ron, Hermione and maybe Dumbledore. He's 99.9999% perfect and the only thing that stops him getting 100% is the age thing which is pretty much not an issue.
There’s some really good casting in the movies. I like Emma Thompson’s Trelawney too. Took a while before I even knew it was her.

Umbridge is the role that made me realise how well a character is acted if she is that easy to hate. Very very well done.

Another pair of shoes that will be tough to fill is Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid. Hard to imagine anyone else playing the part.

Same with Helena Bonham Carter’s Bellatrix. Jason Isaacs’ Lucius.

Police dont come to your door if you say something offensive in US.

We can go to school without worrying about getting shot.

The surprising thing would be if they don't race swap at least half the cast.

The only ones who are "safe" are probably Malfoy and Voldemort.

I guarantee you Hermione will be a trans girl.

Not with Rowling involved.
But she is 1000% not going to be white

So Harry is mixed race in this? No way Lilly would be friends with a black man all her life and ditch him for a whitey like James.
Is that an actual fan theory? :D

And after the travesty that was House of the Dragon casting and "out of wedlock" relations I don't think HBO gives a hoot whether any casting makes biological sense.

With the extended time they will have with the show, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see a LOT more flashback stuff, as that's the world I bet the writers will want to play in. There they can "be subversive" to the accepted story. All the teachers can be corrupted in that fashion, deep conflicts and treacheries revealed, etc. No way will they be able to really sexualize the kids since they are young (regardless of the age of who they cast) so any tension has to come from the adults around them.

Run, run now! If you hide for like 20 years in a cave high in the mountains then maybe the internet rage mobs won't get you :p
i'm serious. i never liked him. maybe it's the constant james bond fans begging for him to do the role. anything i've seen him in i've never seen what's so special. if it wasn't for Phantom Liberty i wouldn't have warmed up to him somewhat. The guy is definitely a really good actor but I don't know I just don't know why everyone gushes over him so much.

This is gonna be the new Rings of Power except this one might be successful because Harry Potter is for kids and adults with low standards because of nostalgia so even if the show is shit they won't notice

Didn't the fantasy beasts underperform?

seen a few people recommend Dev Patel. I could imagine him as Snape.

and they still get to play the non white card with him 🤷‍♂️

Although he's 34, he still looks slightly young for the Snape role., same as Paapa Essiedu.

They really couldn't find someone who gives off Snape vibes? Like... really? Just stupid.

I'm sure they auditioned HUNDREDS of dudes that did bad Alan Rickman impersonations, so I can see them wanting to just get away from that take. I wonder if they are mostly looking for an actor that can do both young and middle-aged Snape with needing a lot of CG.

It's the stringy hair, ill kept, reclusive "spider-like" look that I'm not getting from this guy, obviously a PR headshot won't reflect that.

This. Race swap - no problem. Gender swap - probably, but only to female (my guess is Rowling as a feminist will be against decreasing the number of roles for women).

Trans?

Season 9 Lol GIF by The Office

People really should go and actually look at her words on trans people, instead of just parroting social media talking points:

If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth,” she tweeted. “The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women—i.e., to male violence—‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences—is a nonsense.

I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.”

If you were expecting white roles in a modern british show, thats on you. Just like Dr Who, this will be extremely diverse no matter what Rowling says. UK is a cesspool, more than US atm.

It is not a cesspool. It’s still one of the best countries in the world to live and work in. That’s why so many people want to be there. It has issues, but either you’re not British, or you just live in a really shitty place. In which case, move.

I mean, I've never bought into the whole discourse that she hates trans people or wants some "trans genocide" or whatever the loonies over at ERA say about her.
I've always found her comments on the trans subject to be pretty grounded and reasonable.

But based on everything she has said and done over the years I do think she'd be strongly opposed to turning THE main female character of her franchise into a trans woman.

I think she’d be fine with it. It wouldn’t shut up the purple haired lunatics from calling for her to be murdered, but I think she’d allow it. However, in all seriousness I don’t think it’d happen. WB cannot afford to court controversy of that kind, given how in the toilet their finances are.

This show is gonna end after 1 season or maybe 3 episodes. No way they are gonna keep all the same cast for every book.

Racial considerations aside, Snape being Harry's real dad would give more motivation and add complexity for the character. Change the nature of his hostility to Harry to being about something like keeping emotional distance.

Yeah it would be an amazing final twist if Jk wrote it in Deathly Hollows. Might still work here if they do it Ff Vii Remake style. They are not beholden by the books since a perfect adaption already exist. It would be boring af if thats the case.

I look at The Magicians and how they veered so far away from the source material but made it stand on its own.

Yeah alright I'm out. Racism goes both ways and I'm fucking fed up of people pretending that sort of shit is alright.

We all know why they did this, and any benefit of doubt is long gone.

Seems like a terrible choice if you want it to be Alan Rickman's Snape.
... but we already had the movies, they will have to mix it up a bit with vastly different portrayals to make it interesting. This will most likely fail, but I really can't imagine the series first 2 seasons are going to be interesting for long time fans if they just follow the books. Sure, they messed up in the later films by diverging and getting rid of the wizarding wardrobe, but the first 2 movies are very close to perfect adaptations already.

I'm happy as long as they cast Nicolas Cage as Voldemort. We already had Renfield.

It definitely helps to cast a person already popular to jump the hurdle. Cast Edris Elba as Dumbledore and NO ONE would complain because he is already well liked.
LOL! Remember when they tried to make him Roland in The Dark Tower movie? Bomb.
Same with Helena Bonham Carter’s Bellatrix. Jason Isaacs’ Lucius
Yeah, good luck replacing Helena Carter she was perfect.
