NOOO!

First Dead Like Me is cancelled (or isn't it?), (which was not nice, but there are other comedies, I'll live)

but now Carnivale?? It's the best thing on TV in a very long time! And they ended with a cliffhanger last season too! This seriously pisses me off :(

Yah I had just found Dead Like Me and thought it was a freaking sweet show.

motherfuckers.

Even though the show didn't have a huge following, it had a very loyal following which I thought would be it's saving grace (like Babylon 5 and a few other recent shows). Dark times indeed...

First tragedy, then farce.
production values are likely too high for a niche following to get the job done.. they were obviously hoping that the show would hook a ton of people early and then keep them coming back.. it did the second part, just not the first.

HBO shows that do well seem to be more about personal relationships and less about keeping up with huge story arcs.. Sopranos and Deadwood both do awesome, and while they have an overall story, the interpersonal relationships are the driving force, Carnivale was the opposite of that. Most of what happened seemed more like a plot device than anything else.

DLM was cancelled like a month after season 2 ended. Please do not make me go through that mourning period again.

I couldn't be more pissed off, especially when HBO's got crap like Unscripted and Deadwood hanging around. Deadwood seems like the most boring crap possible. It's just stupid verbose speeches mixed with vulgar language and that's about it. I don't get the appeal at all. Can't say I'm hopeful for Lisa Kudrow's upcoming show either.

That leaves Entourage, the last season of Six Feet Under and The Wire for me. Oh, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, whenever that finally returns. Hopefully Rome will be good.

Well, hopefully HBO doesn't wait forever to release the Carnivale second season DVD set, and doesn't skimp on its production. At least I'll have those great 24 hours.

I'm just glad the Wire did not get cancelled, of which it almost did. Thankfully, the quality of that series is not debatable, like it was with Carnivale.

Heads will roll for this!

And how can a show like Carnivale be expensive to make? Its just a bunch of people rolling around in dirt for Christ's sake.

IAWTP. Where does the money go?

HBO has a lot worse crap than Carnivale that should be cancelled.

Yep its easily the best show ever!

Deadwood also kicks some ass.

I will not be buying either episode of Carnivale on DVD now.

The huge cast, the hundreds of extras, large sets, significant special effects, etc. It's not cheap.

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
I thought this was one of their worst shows, but I'm sorry for it's many fans.

How could Arli$$ run for 85 years and this gets cancelled already?

I'm sorry, but in terms of mood, Carnivale was a paper-thin knockoff of Twin Peaks, set in a different time period.

Go buy the Deadwood DVDs.

I'd have liked it to stay on, but I'm not so bothered. I know a lot of you guys really liked it, but personally I have a hard time seeing what, exactly, puts it above (or even on par with) other shows in the same "fantasy but set in the real world" genre.

I thought the acting was generally of a high standard, but the writing wasn't always that great, the special effects were at best average, the handling of "cool" moments was generally awful to my mind (with some exceptions, the last episode definitely had some), it moved really slowly at first and, even once it sped up a bit, still wasn't at a pace I'd have liked, and too many of the characters didn't have stories that interested me nearly as much as others.

I realise after all that it'll be hard to see why I liked the show at all, but I did. One more season would have been nice, just to wrap up the loose ends. Still, hire the actors for better shows, particularly whoever played Hawkins, he was very good.

And Deadwood is the best show on TV...maybe. It's certainly joint best anyway. It's well written, emotional, shocking, hilarious, probably has the best cast I've ever seen...great stuff.
