The End

Alright, girlfriend is gone, along with my TV. She's left me with $200 in Bestbuy gift certificates. Find me a TV for $1000 or less (ie, 800 or less in cash).

I'm thinking of getting the Samsung Slimfit (my back would thank me, I live in a 3rd floor walkup), but if anyone has any better ideas, I'm all ears.

assuming you live in europe, just hold on a couple months for cybertubes

I wouldn't spend over $1000 atm. Get something in that price range that suits you (unless you need something huge). Prices are about to fall in '06.

I've read that the Slim Fits don't have the best IQ. You might want to try a Sharp Aquos lcd if you can find one in your price range. The look great though you will pay a premium even beyond that of the normal lcd tv. The avs forums would be a great place to read up on various models.

He has his mind made up... Let him get it.

As for Sharp... I avoid them. My company stopped getting thier panels due to them just dying with no warning or (obvious) reason.

Those Samsung sets suck, man.

Get one of the Sony tubes. Best Buy has a GREAT deal on the 32 inch Sony CRT HDTV right now. It's like 815 bucks. I've seen this set in-store and compared it to all the other sets around. The picture quality pretty much pissed on anything else I've seen.

How do those slimfits handle 720p signals? Scale to 1080i?

My next set will have PIP and handle PC input like a dream. I will never buy a set without PIP again.

Well the thing about the Sony's is the great signal processing for standard def video.

They scale everything to 480p and have a lot of noise reduction stuff that really cleans up the picture. Standard def TV on 99% of the other sets out there is going to look like absolute garbage.

I just wouldn't go any other way for a set in the 30-34 inch range. It's really like a no-brainer.

Yeah, if I can milk some more rewards points out of my credit card, I may go for this monster:

Wow.

The 30XS955.

That's the exact same TV that I want if I was gonna buy one now. And I'm truly obsessive about TV shopping.

When a TV says it is compatable with signals from 480i to 1080i but it outputs at 720p, thats not that good right?

Shouldnt it output to 1080i? The TV downgrades the signal or somehting?

I'm looking for something under $2000 between 32-42 inches.

Crt, DLP, or LCD.

Any suggestions?
I'm ready to buy asap.

I was under the impression that 720p is better than 1080i, can anyone else help him out?

Hmm...that LG set is 60 pounds lighter than the Sony, and the IQ is a happy medium between the Samsung and the Sony...

A 1080i display is two 540p fields running together right? I've never seen both in action, but I've heard that both 720p and 1080i look very similar, but 720p looks and runs smoother, and that 1080i has some artifacts because it's still interlaced.

Umm..is there something wrong with it?

I mean, it's "better" and cheaper?

edit: the second or third review says "Amazon doesn't accept returns on TVs bigger than 27""

Well, that sucks.
