We start school in a couple of weeks and I'm looking to buy about 5 headphones. Usually I just go the cheap route because these kids are horrible about tearing them up. The rip the cords, snap the ear parts, and keep in mind this is not just my class. Kids from other classes come to use these in the afternoon.

Yes, I have tried to go over this with them, punish them, etc. but it doesn't seem to help.

So should I just keep on with the Dollar Tree ones or are there actually some headphones that no kid would even imagine destroying?

I mean, obviously less than I'd spend if it was for me but enough to secure the durability factor.

I'd be horrified if I spent a whole bunch of money and they just broke them straight away. Just post whatever comes to mind.

Yeah... I'd put it on their school supply lists and supply them with cheap ones for the classroom.

Sennheiser HD25s are very durable, but they're probably going to be stolen when people find out what they're worth.

Maybe give them ownership of them? Buy cheap earbuds, give one set to each kid. Kids will break stuff that belongs to others, but usually atleast try to keep their own stuff intact. Have a few backups for kids from other classes.

I’ve worked in some rough schools before and we just got to the stage when any piece of computer equipment was dam aged then that computer was taken out of the class. Damage went down fairly significantly, but there will always be a small group that makes everyone look bad. Breaking headphones, pushing pens in to monitors, ripping out the CD drive trays and putting crap in there.

Personally in my opinion just buy some crappy earbuds at $1 a pair off Ebay or something and keep some spare but don’t make any special note of it. If possible plug in to the rear of the pc if they reach

The toughest headphones I have seen/used are the Sony studio monitors. They are very well built and fully rebuildable/fixable. You are taking $75-$100 though. They will get stolen before they break.

Every sub $50 headphone I've bought has died.

Honestly I would probably go with the grab bag of 100 disposable ones. If it was just your kids fine invest in something.

Huh, I remember the schools I went to had some pretty durable headphones with replaceable cables. Looking through Google Images, I believe these are the ones:

You may be better off just buy the dollar store headphones though, the replacement cords for those looks to be $5 each. Have you checked with your school district to see if they have anything like these avaliable?

We have had Sennheiser HD201's in the classroom for years with primary school children abusing them daily. Only had to replace the ones teachers have stolen.

Don't the terrible hard plastic language lab headphones still exist? Those things are tanks, as are the desk mics we used them with. I'm old though.

If they're just going to get destroyed you may as well get a box of 'disposable' cheapie headphones. We had the same problem, they're not the students' property so they just wreck them, we can't punish them as they're our income source so the college won't do anything about it.

I recommend, if you're going to get nice ones, to get the gaudiest, ugliest colors and styles. Make it so that anyone who steals it will stand out immediately.
