Holy Shit this is aweful news.

Sky is reporting Drug related.... Damn Heath :(

It's pretty nuts that it happens to the people you least expect, like that whole Owen Wilson thing a few months back. Crazy.

Heath Ledger was becoming one of the best actors in Hollywood and he had such a bright future.

Its really sad to see him go. Truly a shock.

Which reports are implying that it's a drug over dose. As a father I hold no respect for anyone who could or even consider taking such risks, but I'll reserve my complete disrespect for the deceased until the news is confirmed...
Just reserve it till forever.

Woah, that sucks. If it's unintentional drug-related then that's a sorry way to waste talent. If it's suicide, well, personally I think you would've been better off trying to make it through your tough times, but maybe you didn't have anyone there to really support you. Either way a sad thing, especially for the kid.

I'll pop in my A Knight's Tale blu-ray (shut up, it was on sale!) in remembrance, mang.

I just truned on Sunrise Australia a few minutes ago to see some confirmation. And there it was: Mel clearly upset and everyone looking somber.

This is just...unbelievable.

Did he die with a smile on his face?

He probably was SO into the role he went into such a dark place and never returned.

Last it was:

Death:

According to the New York City Police Department, Ledger was found dead in his apartment in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan on January 22, 2008.[20][21]

Sewell Chan of The New York Times writes: "At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A of 421 Broome Street in SoHo for an appointment with Ledger, the police said.[22] The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Ledger unresponsive. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near his body

Oh my God! :( :( :(
I feel so sorry for his family and his little daughter... :(
I can't believe it.
And also, how some of you worry about TDK.
I mean...I'm personally the biggest movie fanatic I know, but worrying about a fucking MOVIE when a human being - and a pretty young one - just died...be ashamed of yourselves!

Maybe it was the split from his wife (were they married?) or he couldn't take the Joker hype he's gotten the last few months.

R.I.P.
:(

if he is a method actor; how far into his 'Brokeback' role did he go? Maybe, he uncovered something that was hard to deal with... many though his marriage to Michele Williams was a cover up. All speculation, might I add, just thinkin' out loud.

In other words, he might have perfected acting the role of Joker...

The jokes people are making are truly tasteless.

He left behind a 2 year old daughter. What a tragedy.

Why so seri... Never mind.

Anyway, yeah it's very fucked up that he leaves a little 2 year old girl, but holy fuck, he did it himself! He should know better than to drugs if he has a 2 year old girl. That's just plain stupid.

I can't believe how many emotionally dead, selfish assholes there are on gaf. You think about it all the time, but you never really think it's THIS bad.

...what? Do you've any idea how many people die every single hour of every day? The reason Heath Ledger's death has a several paged thread on this forum is because of his status as an actor and the fact that he's a popular celebrity. Think about that for a second, eh. That people are curious about the status of his last movie is hardly surprising and I don't think it's very smart to label them "assholes."

Knee jerk responses made out of some sort of misplaced sense of moral superiority are... bothersome.

Who the fuck cares about the Dark Knight, people. Someone just died

Sorry dude, this is nuts. In a split second, so many things change. TDK was something I was especially excited for. This is fucking bizarre. I feel like I should just drop something I followed for the last 2 years between Comic Cons and Navy Pier's Imax screenings. I had a dream about the film last night. :lol I apologize it's on my mind, but it's not intentional. This is just really awful.

28, with a daughter, and at the height of his career. It's nearly too much to process.

I can't even read this thread right now...i'm not much of a "celeb" type of person...but two years ago almost to the date when I saw Brokeback Mountain for my birthday, I was completely blindsided by how much it affected me, due in large part to his impeccable and haunting performance...I started writing, and writing, and writing, and when i stopped it ended up being 17 pages. RIP Heath Ledger, can't imagine how his family is doing.
