Its very clear who has played the game in this thread and who hasn't

If you play a couple of hours you realize very quick that this game is not even combat focus.

People don't realize how difficult it is to make a video game how much effort goes into working on something for years, only for an unexpected situation to derail it. I can understand the director's frustration. It makes sense: Silksong managed to reach 500,000 players, while Hell is Us, a brand-new IP from a new studio, only drew a few thousand on Steam at launch.

Still, asking for sympathy these days is a tough ask.

Yeah it makes no sense to me why people actively hate him for acting like a human being.

They made an interesting and ambitious game and Iam sure they will still be fine but its hard to not feel sorry for them.

It's understandable that he's quite upset and the sales surely took a big hit, but I don't think that complaining publicly about the way Silksong's was released is a good idea, it's not going to win you good PR.

I can agree that releasing smaller games or new IPs is a mindfield. If it's not Hollow Knight, something else may become a sudden hit when your game is launching (remember how Palworld or Balatro exploded?) and both the gamers and the media will suddenly be focused on one thing.

I totally understand his point, I for example postponed he'll is us to buy Silksong.

Thing is that a team might be working for a game release a complete year and get screwed by the biggest launch of the year shadow dropped.

Its no such thing. Launches are planned well in advance and against the announced launches of other games. Slotting in major competition 2 weeks prior to the date gives them no chance to even assess the potential impact to them. Why do you assume such a shallow response to this instead of the actual issue?

In the end it will always come down to game quality. If you put off Hell is Us because of Silksong it's because you didn't perceive Hell is Us to be good enough to play right away. That's the developers problem, not Silksongs problem.

If it wasn't Silksong it was gonna be Borderlands 4 that killed this game.

It is a shit move by Team Cherry for other devs. Look, I am playing it right now, but let's not forget also the fuckup with no preorders, no preload, 2 weeks notice for projects that were planned to release on that day for over a year. They've been radio silent for the longest fucking time and they couldn't think of a date to give until 2 weeks before release really?

Imagine you worked your ass off to make a game, a new franchise that needs a bit of all the spotlight it can get, you think you have a nice release window and BAM, the game fans have been meme waiting for since SEVEN YEARS is almost effectively shadow dropped with 2 weeks notice.

I would be pissed too.

Are you serious?

Hell is us is made by ~50 peoples give or take. They'll be fine. These are made by a bunch of ex-Eidos Deus ex team who wanted to make a passionate game and you talk shit to them like they're fucking ubisoft or something? They need to make a lesson to make unique games? I'm sorry what game is like Hell is us with the exploration, adult themes and puzzles? Gonzito Gonzito can you think of one?

But another Metroidvania.. oh yea, that's totally unique, never seen that before, a sequel even, wowowowweeee

Yeah, another hard indie game about going right/left. Groundbreaking stuff...

But apparently shit sells a lot and disrupted both Hell is Us and Cronos, both new IPs with release dates planned months ago. I also love that Silksong fans shit on the game because it's different than their favorite sidescroller that was done 1.000.000 times already.

Because getting angry is easy.

That being said, while I understand the director, he shouldn't have spoken like this. Because lashing/commenting(or whatever) to another company/game generally is a bad move in the long term. Even if he feels that way he shouldn't talk like that because of the negativity these comments attract.

And finally I think we live in a world that your game can be in spotlights after weeks, months or even years. If your game is good you will definitely attract more people. No need to fret about release week. I personally didn't play it but I see that Hell is Us is really a good game from comments or reviews. It will surely create a solid fanbase.
