Helldivers 2 announced for Xbox Series X|S (Releases August 26, 2025)

Just checked the MS store, and it looks like Sony themselves are the publishers for the Xbox version (yeah, I'm aware they own the IP).

Game is great, but got fatigued after 20 hours. The gameplay loop is fun but felt old fast.

I know it's probably because I play with pugs, but still. Feels like it could use alot more content despites the passes.

Time to rescue several threads where some were making fun of and laughing about whether or not it would be possible....

Looking at recently published data on players in games of this type on Xbox... I'm not surprised.

How is this a bad thing? Live service titles should be on every platform IMO as you should try to reach the widest audience possible for both player and revenue purposes.

Because it didn't already do well enough?:

Got the thing before Xbox, so you're wrong.
Yes, we know. You've been reciting the same poem every time your neutrality is being questioned, which is quite often. At this point I'm not sure if all the silly excuses are for us or yourself. Just get the games on your platform of choice, there is no reason for all the theatrics.

Why should they ignore even more money and exposure on the table? Service games are not something you should build a hardware brand upon anyway.

I will say more, I'm sure that if Sony is not dumb the mobile port is in the works.

So you would want Sony to limit the player base/revenue of their games? For what purpose outside of some inane fanboy rhetoric?

Ther are still at least 30M Series users, and there was quite a good amount of people wanting the game on Xbox. This isn't Sony releases Horizon on Xbox, this is a live service title that was already day and date on PC.

Considering the current situation Sony should be giving away absolutely nothing. Do you think Nintendo would? Hell, do you even think Xbox would if roles were reversed?

They've fucked up this gen so bad that they need to go to Xbox for some crumbs.
I have said this before that Sony is kind of lucky that Xbox is in shambles and no signs of life

I never claimed I'm neutral. I definitely prefer Xbox. I have them both and think one is definitely better.

Ask the biggest PS trolls on here the last time they bought a game on an Xbox console. I got Astro Bot last year. Don't really care if you have a problem with my posts honestly.

Brothers in arms going down together while Nintendo sits back and laughs.
I think Sony kinda doesn't think of Microsoft as an immediate threat anymore. MS are not gonna be targeting mass-market expansion with their consoles anymore, and there's like 30m units out in the wild with a high percentage that is highly unlikely to switch (meaning they are unmonetizable), so why block it anymore?

The two release dates matching is kind of interesting and points in this direction imo. Not sure if I'd agree with their calculus, but that seems to be how they're thinking.

Live Service do not benefit from being Exclusive. That does not mean Exclusive is bad, it just means if you want Exclusives, you shouldn't make it a GaaS. Exclusivity is a strategic choice, while going multiplatform is a financial choice.

As it is, Sony doesn't see the harm getting money from Microsoft since they have officially ceased treating Xbox as a competitor. We will see if they are right.

Sony could have waited for negativity to spread around Xbox and Microsoft a bit longer, but no, they had to bail them out, lol.

So Nintendo is not competition, PC is not competition and now Microsoft is not competition.

What a weird decision. Switch 2 would make more sense.
Helldivers 2 is built upon a pretty peculiar engine from Darktide called Stingray and this engine is very CPU-heavy and very VRAM-bound. Switch 2 is too weak in it's bottlenecks to even consider a port.

Hell, I'd bet Sony would've annonced Xbox port way earlier (as it was with Marathon) if not the poring issues.

Plus I just don't see a way to be upset. It's a service game and Sony actually learned thing or two about running those from their own expensive mistakes. If anything, it's a good sogn for their service portfolio future.
