Helldivers 2 announced for Xbox Series X|S (Releases August 26, 2025)

Why should they ignore even more money and exposure on the table? Service games are not something you should build a hardware brand upon anyway.

I will say more, I'm sure that if Sony is not dumb the mobile port is in the works.

Well if Sony no longer care about their own platform and want to only focus on selling software (which would be ridiculous considering their output this generation) then this would be a good way to go about it.

Allow me to highlight how ridiculous this is:

I received a PS5 pro for Christmas as a gift and went through all the games to decide what I wanted to get for it. At the time a few friends of mine got helldivers 2 so I thought why not, I'll give it a go as well despite me thinking it wouldn't be my type of game. Was going to get it on PS5 Pro but I saw there were little to no enhancements so decided to get it on PC since my hardware is more powerful there anyway.

Fast forward to now and there still isn't a meaningful pro patch for the game, but yet they are throwing resources towards porting the game to Xbox? That's not what taking care of your Playstation customers looks like.

It's all very reminiscent of what Xbox started to do when they began porting games over to PC and they were just flat out better on that platform with extra features (and even now, the top tier of gamepass is cheaper there), while the console versions and customers suffered in comparison. So if Sony want to continue on this path my response will be the same, I'll simply stop buying PS5 software and redirect all hardware funds towards PC. The writing is on the wall.

Sony's current administration doesn't know what they're doing. This is the beginning of the brand's devaluation. And just a few days ago, Hermen Hulst said they were being cautious about porting their games to other platforms.

They're slowly going down the same path as Microsoft.

All I can say is...

Wow. They could have waited for negativity to spread around Xbox and Microsoft a bit longer, but no, they had to bail them out lol. Sony made many bad decisions this gen, this one is right up there.
lol they are past that. xbox is irrelevant outside of gaming forums.
you never run out of negativity with xbox anyways, phil takes care of that.

This is good news. Played this heavily at launch, still put at least a few hours in each month since and it feels like the current player base is a mix of bored and somewhat toxic. It'll be nice to have a fresh crop of players.

Agree to disagree. Sony had a moderatly successful SOE business back in the day that rivaled WoW at some point. All without hurting their PS2 business much, if any.

A lot of you being too dramatic around platforms where you should see this whole situation as Sony's personal Minecraft.

They don't own Arrowhead and it never was exclusive. All of my 300+ hours in the game are on Steam.

I'd like to know where this idea that it needs more players is coming from. The active playerbase is huge.
You know what I mean. It was a Sony Exclusive™, meaning Playstation + PC.

While Sony doesn't own Arrowhead, they own the IP. So it is up to them to determine where they publish the game.

And more players = more money. Good for both Sony and Arrowhead, like I said. It also means more potential people to play with.

Server capacity issues aside, no one ever complains about too many players. I'm struggling to see the bad in this.

It's about what it means for the platform as a whole but you guys are refusing to see it for what it is.

I'll end up fighting you like I have the dumb arse xbros for the last decade, and you'll all end up hating me.

Well thankfully we can safely say that this is just an odd situation. There aren't any other PlayStation games on other

....okay, yes. That happened. But that was a whole other set of circumstances. Besides, it's just two games. It's not like there are any other

....well, fine. You got me there. But that wasn't on Xbox and wasn't even made by Sony. Besides, it's not like Sony spent a shit load of money on some big name developer and somehow didn't lock its future games down to their

Helldivers 2 must be making lots of money for Playstation. They obviously want to cash in on this and bring it everywhere possible.

So Nintendo is not competition, PC is not competition and now Microsoft is not competition.

All will be clear once the smoke settles a bit. Xbox's moves last night were the moves of a company that's clearly preparing to exit the mass-market console industry (<=$500 MSRP). They're going to be stuck on whatever Xbox One/Xbox Series users are left (yes they do exist).

PC is absolutely competition for Sony though, that's why they even have a year's gap between releases of singleplayer content.

Gaming industry in general faces an upper cap on user growth. And it will be interesting to see how all the players deal with it.

The game is technically already available on the Xbox Ally, this way they will entice some Xbox console only players to buy the game.

The other thing to think about is that Sony has most likely made the vast majority of the money they are going to make from Helldivers 2 as it is, and it's probably been that way for awhile. This could be similar to how they release on PC once the majority of sales have been made on PlayStation.

You do know that Arrowhead is not a 1st party studio right? PlayStation is not putting their own resources into this port. All they've done is given the go ahead for the port.

Edit: According to another poster it appears I'm wrong on that front. I'm not gonna edit my post to try to hide it. My bad.

PlayStation's Nixxes Studio is handling the port work.

Nixxes is working on the port so yes they are publishing this. It's even published by Playstation Studios LLC

Current Sony management are actually the dumbest motherfuckers.

Now I see why Xbox waited until yesterday.

Gotta agree with you. LOL!

How much does Sony really think they'll make from putting the game on Xbox? What this shows to me is that there's something going on with Xbox and Sony clearly knows it.

If that were the case then why on earth would you port this game there?

I'm actually surprised that so many people are failing to see this for what it is.

People have been wondering what nixxes has been up to - it's this.

People have been wondering why they haven't managed to find the resources to get this game (and others) properly patched up for the Pro - it's this (or at least it's a contributing factor).

Current PS5 (and pro) customers suffer because they want to port this game to a "dead" platform? How does that make any sense?

For a little bit there I actually thought Sony was starting to realize they were fucking up and needed to change course. But yea it's Hulst.

Makes sense doesn't it? Xbox is currently absolutely no threat to PlayStation. Why not put a successful gaas game on the platform and get some money from the remaining diehards? I highly, highly doubt that there are many changing their opinion over this, not after everything else Xbox has done.

I woke up feeling really good after yesterday. I'm fucking fuming Hulst you stupid piece of shit.

What a fucking BELLEND

WHAT THE FUCK
You can't be serious, are you happy seeing games get cancelled and people getting laid off?

Where you as happy when Sony closed evolution Japan studio and many others? Or this is just fanboysm?

Nah, I think they are just that stupid and they are scrambling around for scraps of revenue at the moment because of how much their GAAS decisions (and the Bungie purchase) have cost them this gen.
