here's the thing you need to use a guncon 2 with a component or s-video connection

i think this might be uesful to at least a few people. sony's got this a/v adaptor thing that provides a composite video out to plug your guncon into plus an a/v multi-out passthrough to plug your component or s-video cable into. here's how you buy one:

go to http://www.sony.com/accessories
search for this part number: 97034
it's $15

i've finally gotten off my ass and purchased one...now i'll actually be able to play the copies of time crisis 2, time crisis 3, and gunvari collection i've had lying around.

I love you...

Wait, I really hope this works, been dying to play TC3 and the upcoming Crisis Zone. I have a feeling the problem may not be the connection, but the coding for the Guncon does not respond with HD resolutions however.

Let us all know when you get it how it handles.

I have a PS2 cord that has Composite AND s-video.. would that work for using the S-video for the picture and the composite into the guncon?

my guncon works fine on my hdtv if i use the composite a/v cord. i see no reason why it wouldn't work with this. i'll let you know, anyway.

and you may as well try it, nikashi.

Does it really? I have one of those older PSX dongles that were required for an S-video connection that I used on my older component-ready non-HDTV. But using that same dongle gets zero response from my newer HDTV.

hm...can you turn off your tv's line doubler? or change the settings? maybe that would help. i really have no idea, though.

yea, that could be the problem. My Sony TV doesn't really give me much freedom for that stuff it seems. Even if I just plug the system into the front AV slots with vanilla composite cables, the Guncon just can't recognize signals.

Believe me this is a serious downer, I loved me some TC2 and since I have never played TC3 or Crisis Zone EVER, this lack of support is even more wretching.

There are a few 3rd party lightguns that claim to be "hdtv compatible" but I've yet to try any of them for fear it wouldn't work. I have the dongle to connect the guncon as well, but it just simply doesn't work on my hdtv. I don't have the option to turn off the line doubler either:( I love my tv otherwise but this is a huge disappointment for me. I have a Hitachi 51s500 btw.

For people that use component connections, you can just use the GunCon dongle and piggyback it onto the Green cable - works fine from my experience. But if your HDTV hates you...well...

i've heard that method mentioned before, but it's never worked for me. it's certainly something to try before you buy the dongle, though.

oh, i remember that. aren't they just ports of the saturn versions, though? i've still got my saturn hooked up, so if that's the case i might as well just play the saturn ports.

To the people saying "Light guns don't work with my HDTV," what type of HDTV are you using? If it's non-CRT (like LCD or DLP), you're SOL no matter what video connection you use.

Have you guys tried these on your HDTV's?

See if those work...

CRT.

Would those guns just posted work? They say they're from the UK and I'm in the US.

Which TV? If you have a CRT, you should be set. Does your TV have settings which allow you to force the video mode (such as 480i or 480p)? The guns posted will probably work, but it seems like your old Guncon should be okay too, as long as the TV isn't in progressive scan mode...

I have a Sony Wega. In the main menus there's an option to switch between progressive and interlaced... but I don't know if that's what I need to change or not.

I was running it through a standard PSX with composites. The gun doesn't even register at all.

Definitely set it to interlaced for light gun games. Also, I downloaded what I'm guessing is your TV's manual, and it looks like you have something in your menu called ClearEdge VM? This sounds like a line doubler, so you'll probably want to turn this off as well.

I liked how the manual said interlaced was better for moving pictures and progressive for still. :)

Hmm...I have a Sony WEGA XBR800 set and I will try out those TV settings now. It's very possible they were all on when I attempted to play without realizing.

That might be a new edition. I know it's definitely not in the menu I have heh.

I'll try setting it to interlaced and see what happens.

I just tried setting my TV to interlaced with the Clearedge VM off myself and had zero luck with the Guncon 1 or 2.

I also attempted the Green component plug-in trick, but it also didn't work. :(

Yeah, it looks like the "interlaced" option is actually 960i and not 480i, so the guncon won't know what to do with this. According to Lik Sang, none of the new-ish high end Sony TVs work with any light guns. hrmph.

yeah - the adaptor works fine for me. though keep in mind that the guncon already worked on that hdtv if i used the composite connection.
