I was wondering why no one was talking about it.
 
What happens if you press the button while not subscribed? Nothing? Does it take you to an ad / splash screen telling you to subscribe?

I'm thinking one of the first things I'll do when I get the Switch 2 is open up the controller and physically disconnect the C button.

Obviously it got lost in all the other news, but also I don't think it registered that there was a button tied to the subscription

Pretty sure you don't need ps plus for online chat. Don't know why people are sweeping this under the rug. Oh wait, I do know.

Having a useless button on your console just to keep reminding you that you are not paying Nintendo is a separate issue.

I have to say I was wrong about the switch 2. It's far more innovative than I initially thought.

The article says it will remind you that you need to be subbed.
 
No sillier than having to pay for online play. Or having to subscribe to PS+ to use cloud saves. Every company has their own dumb schemes. If you're an online console gamer, you're getting milked no matter where you play.

It's just disheartening that there are rabid fanboys here that deliberately spreading misinformation in order to make their beloved franchise looks good compared to the competitors, and they can do it without any repercussions or whatsoever...

Nintendo confirms that online capabilities like chatting or playing with friends will be attached to paying a subscription, just like Sony and MS.

The issue isn't the system price. The issue really isn't the controller having an "online" button. The issue is software pricing.

chatting is not attached to a subscription on Xbox or Playstation.
playing Fortnite with friends is also not attached to a subscription, not even on Switch/Switch 2... and that's one of the most played online games currently

Putting something like this behind a paywall is very Nintendo.

I never want to hear shit about folks making those claims about EA, Ubisoft, Activision etc. Those same companies at least provided remasters at prices that made sense, not fucking full price.

So maybe that "Greed" tier list needs to be examined and reissued here.
 
It's a strange take. It is an online button, similar to the share button. It's for online gaming. We already pay for online gaming on all the consoles if we want to use it. NSO is by far the cheapest. Saying it like that "a button you have to pay to use" is a bit misleading. It's like if Sony released Concord and the headline was "Sony releases game you have to pay them TWICE to use" it's clickbaity propaganda for haters. It's technically true but it is also just like saying "Sony releases game you have to pay them TWICE to use" when Sony releases an online game. It's technically true but fucking duh and welcome from under the rock, are you gonna cry about it?

Exactly. Then MS and Sony will follow and make party chat only for PS+ or Xbox Live/Gamepass subs. Also will include a dedicated button on the controler only for those services but that will be fine according to some here.
 
I normally get Nintendo consoles 6 months to a year later, once all the release window games are out and we hear about whats next.
This is the first Nintendo console I'm seriously considering skipping entirely. It's rubbing me the wrong way and the games are not impressing me.
They also haven't brought back some of my favorite titles like Punch Out in forever.
 
I feel like we had a few really shitty bits of news that were worth getting upset about, but now every anti-Switch 2 thread is grasping at straws. Didn't they already say on the direct that a NSO sub was required for game chat? So.... that would mean that the C button (that is dedicated to game chat) wouldn't work if you don't have an NSO sub.

Are we outraged that we are paying for a piece of plastic on the controller that can't be reprogramed? :messenger_tears_of_joy:
