just had a pretty good game, my XP per minute was the highest i have ever gotten, 1007/minute! i have definetely improved my game by changing up what i buy at the start- 2 totems(for power supply), 2 sets of trees, a health potion (thats 400g or so) then i either buy a courier to get a bottle as soon as i can or i buy a pretenders crown. that is the start build i have been using pretty much regardless of who i play as and it is working pretty good.

also, at the start, you HAVE to focus on nothing but getting last hits / denies and not getting harassed and beat on. i think doing these things has really made my game improve- if i focus only on getting that early gold as fast as i can, denying as much as i can (not only to keep them from getting the xp but also to keep them from getting gold) and keep from dying early, it makes things so much easier.

i picked this crap up pretty much by just looking at the top guys in the ladder, looking at what they bought in their replays of their games, see what skills they use, things like that. if you look at those top guys, only a handful have k/d ratios that are well over 2. that kind of shows that the game is not JUST about getting kills, its about getting lots of denies, lots of gold and not freaking dying.

i kind of feel revived in this game right now!

If there are any slots in the GAF clan please add me, tag is Dynamic3. I still need to research some item builds but I'm pro at LoL so I can control my hero well.

Where was this game two years ago when I was hardcore in DOTA and barely anyone in gaf played :(.

I was hardcore in DOTA 2 years ago but only till HON came around with the great servers that more people visibly started playing in the same place. I mean with DOTA you could competitively play inhouse, hamachi, BNET, GG, Garena, asian servers, etc. depending on your location, ping, skill level, friends, preferred language, etc. In HON, everyone's visible to everyone else online regardless of those factors. Come on, join the beta :D

And there's no lag. Really, no lag at all..that by itself > DOTA.

For those wanting to view some high leveled replays, search for chu` on replays.heroesofnewerth.com. Once you find a game you like to see, copy the game ID and paste it in your HoN match window, then download replay and watch. chu` happens to play in games 1850+ only, so games are very very very competitive and requires lots of teamwork. This is why I happen to play games between casual and competition, I enjoy playing the game but playing it competitively is extreme.

Hm, when I go to replays it says "Replay downloading coming soon!"

How am I supposed to watch these?

I already am. My point is I don't feel like playing the game anymore since I'm burned out.

I'm on like a 10 game losing streak, just what the hell do I gotta do to play just one good game

If it's your team in general, better communication is definitely helpful. Nothing says hello to the start of a feeder streak like getting jumped by two or three enemy heroes because your teammates didn't warn you in advanced.

If it's you, there are a lot of characters to choose from, and many different itemizing combinations depending on you and your playstyle.

If you're playing games where teams are pretty even but you're still losing, wait for someone good at the game to give sound advice. :(

Went 2-5 today which is about as good as I can hope for. I had the "luck" of joining a game where two guys were harassing a teammate and he threatened to fight them irl, smh. I think the core gameplay is heads and shoulders above LoL, but the community is very hit and miss. I have had some games where everyone communicated and everything went great.

I really like Shaman, but I really don't know what item order I should be going for. I am using this guide for the time being, but my mana regen is pathetic. I can't seem to get good regen until I have a fully built totem and the game is usually over by then. :/

I'm on a crazy losing streak, i've lost about 19/20 games i've played lately. The only good part is that the last time I had a losing streak this bad my psr went up by a hundred after wards.

I'm on like a 10 game losing streak, just what the hell do I gotta do to play just one good game
Think hard about your hero picks, not just "hey this hero seems cool." Also, buy wards(gotta learn to place them right though check a guide)/courier, i guarantee you'll start to win more games.

i am on a six game winning streak. I think it is probably 25% luck, 25% my psr was a lot lower than my actual skill level, 25% i am playing with more GAF people and 25% i cleaned up my game quite a bit and learned the things i need to focus on more. i still prefer SD over anything else. it looks like the top people always play BD games, but i dont have much experience with them. i think those sorts of games sound kind of interesting though! sort of like dismissing jurors out of a jury pool.

This is key. One of the reasons why I quit DOTA is because it became too spread.

Yeah, stay out of BD until you know how to pick/counter pick and team craft, otherwise you'll be in a world of hurt.

The problem with SD is that it can be really unbalanced as far as hero picks go..but I love it too just for the randomness :lol BD would be my second favorite due to the randomness + banning the annoying heroes..but its still not as random as SD!

i thought the only people who did the banning were the host and 'leader' on the other team? if you are playing BD you sure need to be playing as a team tho. can you still swap at the end with BD with other players?

Yeah I don't like SD all that much.

Like last game, we had a pretty basic team, but no real AOEers besides Plaguerider. The enemy team doesn't pick until the last second.

BEHEMOTH! HELLBRINGER! TEMPEST! SLITHER!

Fucking gg.

Thanks to CROjojo i can finally play this game :D
First impressions are good-great so far, definetly feels a lot more like dota then Lege of legends.
How do I play with you GAFfers? any specific times? I am from Germany btw(regarding time etc)
looking forward to play with you all

Is there a GAF chat channel or something? sorry if I ask questions that already have been answered.

Joined a game today where our Chronos was shouting anti American slurs and using his time stop ability on our teammates. :lol HoN's gameplay with LoL's community would be heavenly.

:btw I have 2 beta invites. PM me your email address if you want one.

mint should be able to clan invite you.

Played a game with bunch of high 1700's and mostly 1800's. Talk about a whole diff level of play. We had a Kraken that solo'd mid against a silencer. He went onto dominate the game for us.

Yeah but if say your entire team is building a pushing team, say Soul reaper , defiler, hellbringer, ophelia , and suddenly you picked magebane, you just threw a huge monkey wrench at your team. It's crazy cause i see 1600+ players making mistakes like this all the time.

Not really.

Pushers keep the game going, carry freefarms a lane in the meantime, carries an TP always to help teamfights.

40 minutes later Magebane comes out unstoppable. ggnore

I like SD for the randomness, and the ability to actually plan with your teammates (e.g. swapping) before someone immediately picks Chronos/Scout/FA in AP. Of course sometimes no one says anything and everyone picks with 2 seconds left, leaving your team with 5 melee carries.

I play AP just for the extra 250 gold making a random. The drawback is playing with/against the same heroes over and over.

Slither is great: played a game yesterday where I got a Quad Kill and Bloodbath, then got called out by my teammates for KS'ing. Not my fault we team-fight in mid with toxin wards everywhere. :lol

I'm not a fan of BD and RD: my low PSR means most of the time I pick last.

Well fear not, Banning Pick (Captain's Mode) will be included in the next patch. I probably won't be playing much of anything else once it comes out, heh.

Still beta, matchmaking's on its way.

Good work takes time! At least we've got some additional goodies in store that I'm sure a lot of people will get a kick out of.

The whole point of building a pushing team is to finish the game as quickly as possible. If you want to delay you'd go 3assists/2 carry or with a ganking team.

Really?...Captains mode is like one of the least fun modes to play. The whole purpose of Captains Draft is to prevent the monotonous and boring selection of redundant hero picks that is Captains Mode.

New Zephyr is lovely. His gust ability is really a lot of fun when you get the hang of it. His ultimate ALMOST makes him an Agil Initiator. Very nice.

Could I get some tips on ward placement? I tried being a ward hoe with Glacius earlier today and was yelled at for putting them in the wrong places. :|

Sigh, some publics are so bad. And I always end up joining the bad team.

We had BH and Armadon. Both can do mid, but BH can do it better imo. But Armadon insisted. He apparantly also insisted on feeding the enemy Soulstealer till he was lvl 14 and Armadon still was lvl 8. Bloodhunter then went offline because his 'cursor got stuck'. Sure thing mate. We conceeded before the 20 minute mark.

Well he said

Soul Reaper
Hellbringer
Defiler
Ophelia
Magebane

barring the fact that this lineup is terrible with or without Magebane, lets look.

Soul Reaper is one of the few Ints that really scale
Defiler damage output is disgusting no matter what stage of the game - it's just a matter of survivability
Ophelia doesn't slouch off either if you manage to amass an army using HotD
Hellbringer is useful all game long and in a pub (which we're talking about) can even carry once he gets his items

So yeah, they're pushers, but they're not exactly useless past 30 minutes.

If you had a team more like Nymph/Shaman/Rhasta/Ophelia/Magebane then yeah, you'd really want to be looking at a bunch of early ganks and a 20 minute concede.
