Heroes of Newerth Beta PC (dota clone)

I need to figure out the items (and the heroes, for that matter) work better. I keep ending up getting flailed by other players without being able to escape their ultras/combos.

Try playing as Magebane,Scout, Madmen or Night Hound. They have nice ways to escape battles if you have to and are good ways to learn/get used to the game IMO.

I have a spare invite, actually. I was saving it for anyone I know from the boards but it looks like everyone I know who's playing is already in.

First one who PMs me their email gets it, barring someone I know wanting to join in.

Will do, thanks.

Oh, how did I miss this thread? I love playing Dota. Please send me an invite if someone has one to spare.

edit: pm sent, hopefully I'm not too late.

I really love HoN so far. I would have enjoyed some tweaks to make games a it shorter, but I really can't complain.

Does anyone have any idea whats the business model will be like?

Based on what I heard and rumors:

Heroes of Newerth will probably be $29.99 like Savage 2, S2's last game. Savage2 is free now but it was $29 when it launched.

HoN will be available to buy online only. The game will not be available in stores just like savage 2.

rumored: Winter 2009 release. My guess would be November althought I think they should release this game now.

Also try out Keeper of the Forest, he can cloak for as long as 1 minute as long as he stays near Trees, you can also use this on other heroes. there nothing better then coming out from the trees and be like "wtf this tree guy come". He can level up by being in cloak near the creeps all day and his 3rd skill is passive which increase his attack dmg and he already has a beast hp total, good choice for new comers who don't like getting ganked.

Anyone got a spare key?
Friend of mine is getting desperate here :p
Pm me and ill send you his email.
thx :)

Ps: noob games in HoN = dota players who stomp on the real noobs :p

Oh shit this is made by the Savage guys?

Savage 2 is so damn good. Got hooked on it a while back, really should buy a membership one of these days.

Never played Dota but would love to try this out.

i also have 1 spare key to give away if u want to pm me please do so but its first come first serve.

already given mine out now

Just played a few games, pretty fun and great graphics. I wish the games were a bit shorter. Most of the games for me took 30 to 45 minutes. 30 feels alright but pass 40 I personally start lose a bit of focus. I'm liking the Tempest Hero, I tend to lean more towards ranged classes. I love the game so far!

Oh man, just had a really good game with Pestilence where I went 23 - 1. I really think this is just an improved version of DotA at this point.

Also, I still have beta keys! just send me a pm

I just found out that if you repeatedly click on a unit consecutively they say different things, just like in blizzard games.

Electrician: "Cash or CHARGE?"

Hahaha, it never gets old.

Try easy mode, games are usually shorter in easy mode.
Also the new map smaller map, it's suppose to be shorter too. The normal dota map is the most popular though.

We must not allow the League of Legends thread to overtake this one!

For players here who didn't play DotA--I'm curious, what do you think? Not of the community, but of the fun factor, or the learning curve.

i don't know why not... i think LoL might be the better game after playing both. the persistent side of LoL with leveling up your summoner is kinda cool where you've got runes, masteries and summoner spells to play with.

I didn't play DotA before and I have the impression that most of the people are kind of jerks towards new players. I think it is understandable in the sense that each game is an hour-long commitment with 9 other guys and one bad player can ruin the experience for everyone. I'm lucky to have a lot of friends playing this game and many of us are learning how to play it together and I can say that I'm an average player right now (after 70 games...).

On another note, I can also see that there is an overt prejudice against Brazilian players, who usually play on US East servers. I happen to be Brazilian myself (living in Boston, MA), so I run into them a lot but it doesn't bother me for obvious reasons. I'd like to hear what are your opinions about foreign players in this game...

I live in Boston too. I have nothing against other people playing on USEast servers. I don't care what race they are. This game is server hosted so as long as it doesn't lag, I don't care.
I have seen people speak french, spanish, and other languages in game. I don't care at all.

In dota, someone is hosting the game. So sometimes the host has the advantage as there is no lag at all for the host.

i'd made up my mind before playing demigod, LoL, or HoN that LoL was the only good dota successor and everything else was going to be garbage.

this is a horrible attitude that plagues gaf and the internet in general

sanjay was tellin me a bit about HoN and i think i'd like to check it out before i start trashing it. anyone have a spare key, or know where i could get one? that facebook link blitz provided says invite limit exceeded.

demigod is garbage though. :p
i was wrong to say so before playing it, but i did buy it when it came out and was very disappointed

key sent. I would never limit myself to one game, it's stupid.

It's like only play Team fortress 2 but not able to play Call of Duty, Left 4 dead, counterstrike, Crysis, and countless other fps games.

If anyone could spare a key, I'd appreciate it. I'm too intimidated to try DOTA, but the genre interests me.

Thanks.

I've got some more invites, by the way. If you still need one, PM me your email address and I'll send one your way (while supplies last).

EDIT: And it looks like I've got requests for all of 'em. I'll start filling them, but am no longer able to fill new requests.

Favorite hero has to be Furion. I love porting in on people close to death thinking they're going to make it back to the founteain :D

Sorry about earlier Blitz in an ackward family computer situation :D , been cool playing with the GAF clan. We should organise some inter clan Scrims sometime

If anyone has any spare keys I'd love to get my hands on one. I tried out League of Legends yesterday so I want to check out Heroes of Newerth to see which one I'm more interested in. It would be great to play with the GAF clan too!

favorite hero has gotta be pit lord or axe :D

EDIT: I would be most honored if anyone could send me a spare key, too :lol

Pretty much in the same situation as him. Would love to try HoN if someone has a kind soul.

Community tends to have a jerkish attitude towards newcomers to DotA in general. If you host a game for "noobs" high level players come in to farm their Kill/Death ratio and win % up. There needs to be better measures to separate the two denominations, but there isn't anything I could think of at the moment. So I guess the only way to have a game for newcomers would be to set it up beforehand with a trustworthy bunch of players. Thank god GAF exists.

My in-game name is Sabot and I'd be happy to learn the game later tonight with a bunch of other people in my situation.

I would love a key, if anyone has one. Played Warcraft III way to much but never tried DOTA. Got some time till school starts and would like to try it out. Thanks:D

In what way is this better than Dota? If it's a clone isn't it just the same crap with a worse base of people playing it?

If you don't like Dota, you almost certainly won't like HoN.

That said, HoN does have some definite perks. The buying interface is much better (you can buy ingredients for a recipe from that recipe's description, instead of having to go hunt it down). There are a couple new maps, including a 2-lane 3v3 that I quite enjoy. A few new heroes (although they're missing a bunch as well). Better match-finding interface (you can see and filter/sort by game options such as -ap/-sd, etc.). Better controls (hotkeys are setup with your hero's abilities bound to QWER, so you don't need to learn new hotkeys for each hero; I've heard this can be done in War3, but don't know how...). Integrated voice chat.

I could go on, but in short: it's Dota+. Not a whole lot different, but on the whole I like it more. It's got enough perks to be worth playing over Dota, but if you aren't a fan of Dota, then there's probably not enough perks to sway you.

the GAF clan plays everyday, but we do suck pretty badly its still hella fun

Until they can fix the clans from displaying the clan tag GAF. I think we should unjoin. Most games, if people see we are in a clan, they just leave. Or we attract pros into the game.
