Heroes of Newerth Beta PC (dota clone)

Im really enjoying this game right now :D . Its fun to play and the interface additions and graphics enhancement are welcome.

Has there been word on the pricing? It obviously can't be a free game, but it also can't be too expensive, given that its a remake of a free game that someone else created and that's still being played.

I will probably get it anyways, if the pricing isnt ridiculous.

If anyone wants a game hit me up

What are the hotkeys for stop and attack? I can't find them and attack is especially handy for denials.

A attack, S stop, H hold (stopped characters will go after nearby enemies, held characters won't even attack if the enemy is in range)

:lol We actually have a handful of regulars inn the game almost everyday.

Played one game yesterday and I didn't realize how much of a dota clone this is.

Im not sure do I want to play dota with a new coat of paint. I need to get a League of Legends beta code since I think that's more interesting.

The sand king has become the lava king. I'll try it out tonight.

There are still beta keys at the alienware link above.

The game is a complete DOTA clone. Huge learning curve if you've never played DOTA. Fortunate for me, I don't want to really spend the time learning the new new set of items/heroes in LOL, so i'll stick with HON.

If you're starting fresh, I'd probably go w/ League of Legends over Heroes of Newerth, as it probably has a more forgiving community of players.

I did play Dota pretty intensively up till fall last year. I'd guess my playtime in dota is atleast 100 hours.

But I got pretty fed up with it and the community. For me the all new heroes and items are a huge plus. Also the persistent stuff sounds cool in LoL.

I will play some more of HoN though. It looks pretty nice and seeing old heroes with new models is nice. (is there Abaddon yet in the game? :P)

I've played a few games of this today (first time I have played a dota game). So far someone has wanted to vote kick me out for being a noob in a noob only match, and a Pro player was bitching at us in a noob only match. Awesome first impression. lol

Man this game is messing with my head. Going to take awhile to realize "Oh hey that lava, that's suppose to be an impale"

My favorite hero Lion didn't make it either but I learned alot of different other heroes. I actually improved alot in this dota clone because I'm able to play against newbies. I probably won't ever go back to dota.

I think half the number of heroes compared to dota helped me get familiar with the game. The recipe system is a huge improvement, I still don't know how to make countless items in dota without spending minutes searching around. Which then prevented me to try other heroes since I only know how to play 1-2 hero and what items to get.

I have the exact opposite problem right now. "Where the fuck are the tangos..... oh runes of something okay!"

So I have this game installed and ready to play but for some reason I keep holding off. For those who have played it for a while now, how does it compare to Dota?

Almost exactly like. Not as many of the heroes but still a good number. Also some of the heros that came over aren't exact 1 to 1. Like Rooftrellen doesn't have his regen ability, but has an ability to pick up trees and add +damage to his next X attacks. They also have different graphics, so someone like sand king is now like a lava creature... so he doesn't look like you'd expect him too. There's also new heros too.

All the items are the same as far as I can tell, just takes a bit to realize what they're called in this game (Sange and Yasha are now Hack And Slash for example).

The map itself is also the exact same, though looks a lot different. The pretty graphics really mess with my head.

I was under the impression that pollywog priest was Lion or very similar to, but I never played Lion in DoTA so I wouldn't know for sure

Pretty graphics is the main reason I wanna check it out. Glad to see the similarities in Dota. Any Morphling or Lich like heroes? :(

Oh my bad, that's my Steam handle :/

It's Dina.

The new sandking does not look like sandking at all. I like the old 4 legged scorpion look much more.

I heard they have given out over 200,000 beta keys so far.

I'm hoping Balanar makes the cut eventually. My favorite DOTA hero, and the only one I think that takes advantage of the day / night cycle (is it even still in HoN?)

Surprisingly no Goblin Techies either.

Ya there's day/night and it affects LOS just like dota.

Sadly I never played Dota. Tried a few times but got kicked, than tried a AI map and even CPU owned me (they leveled faster than I did)

I have and enjoy Demigod and would love to try this one as well :)

I checked all the heroes and I love the look of Terrorblade :)

:lol I was in a similar boat as you and all I have to say is: Get ready for a game ten times harder than Demigod.

Ah, good to see this game has asshats just like DOTA. Had a guy go into a childish fit because he claimed he was Kill stealed (which i think rarely exists outside OBVIOUS moves). He spent the rest of the match trying to sabotage the team.

Been playing this game religiously the past few days, and I was never really into dota in the first place, past playing it at school lessons.
There sure is a certain elitism and jack-assing going on among a few players (which I suspect will get worse with time).
Just yesterday i was told such nice things "oh you fucking noob, you don't fucking die with thunderraper (or what's his name), get the fuck out" by a teammate in mic, who sounded like he hadn't even grown pubes yet. The best part was this other guys who typed "ninjape leave" just to tag a along the douche, to which I simply replied "what's ur problem?", and he just responded "oh.. sorry".

But other than small things like that I've had a pretty nice experience, I tend to play "only noob" games, and probably will be if I do in the future >>'.
There's alot of things you need to get a hang on in this game before you can actually do anything constructive in the team, especially with the big item variety. I got a decent understanding of what to buy for certain characters, but if anyone has any guide or tips or so feel free to throw me a towel.

If anyone wanna hook up for a game or two, my in-game nick is "NinjApe", I'm pretty decent with Accursed, and Night Hound can be fun to torment people with.
Oh and Scouts are just as annoying as Rogues in wow >:o.

Been playing it a lot yesterday. Me and two friends tried Pestilence (Str, me), Valkyrie (agi) and Glacius (int) and it worked extremely well. Pestilence is a really sturdy tank but has some nice tricks that make him good stunning and following people. His 2-something aoe stun is nice and his 50% movement speed while taking 10% extra damage is a fair trade-off.

What's also nice is that his ultimate (-5/-10/-15) armor doesn't seem like much initially, but it is really helpful when focus firing an enemy tank. The kicker is that it prevents stealthed enemies from actually going to stealth, locking out irritating gankers like Scout pretty early.

And the last game last night I took Pollywog Priest. Went directly for the refresher orb, only to find out that actually activating the orb takes 650 mana away. When his hex is 200, his net being 240 and his ultimate 300-something, he needs a lot of juice to keep going. He's also susceptibel to ganks and stuns disrupting his net. So I went for two soulboosters next.

But when you meet someone with full mana in a 1on1, he's a right beast.

Hex - Ultimate - Refresher Orb - Ultimate - Net - Hex - Fork Lightning kills pretty much every hero except a mad regenerating Electrician. I actually killed a feeded 15-3 lvl 25 Blood Hunter with me being lvl 20 from 100% to 0%.

Which is all kinds of awesome. I love this game!

Sorry for mixing DotA and HoN items/heroes/spellnames, but I'm not really familiar with everything being renamed.

It never fails does it? In the most recent game I played, I was apparently the "worst blood seeker [the other team] has ever seen", despite my astounding kill to death ratio and overall domination. Sometimes I think the majority of this community is populated with children.

Another funny thing about that game was our obviously new Pollywog priest player. He never said a word, but managed to die upwards of 12 times. We were trying to help him out with where to go but he seemed to be having the worst of luck. Instead of biting his head off though, my team and I turned him into our team mascot. We were doing things like yelling "FOR THE POLLYWOG" when making pushes, and our Jezeriah was trying to keep him alive as best he could. With our help he even managed to get a single kill during our final push. It was glorious! :lol

Haha awesome ^^, that's how people should try to help out. Yelling/whining/ruining it for ur own team isn't helping, isn't enjoyable and isn't any fun.
Seems waaay too many people have lost the abilit to enjoy the "fun" aspect of playing games, getting too competitive for their own good.

If you're going to go refresher route with pollywog (rhasta), get the master staff (angrirmassdfjdsoifjs scepter), before it. Improves your ultimate greatly, gives you a big boost of mana too.

Yeah I heard it worked, but it wasn't listed anywhere. I'm still torn, refresher improves not only your ulti, but your entire gank combo.
