90% of users in here talk about the 98% of "Gaming" chairs in the sub 700 euro segment. Of course they'd think they're all crap.

I'm also in the SecretLab camp. I got one of their TITAN Evo 2022 models, and the ergonomics are a marked improvement over the cheaper office chair I used to use.

Actually that's not a gaming chair, more like a couch potato ultimate chair. For console gaming and general PC usage, it's insanely good and can sit for more than 20 hours on it. But for gaming with keyboard/mouse then you would need another plate/lap table to have them on you. So you need to really ask him if he is into such chairs. You can repurpose it for the living room and I'm 100% you would protect it from anyone trying to sit on it like a cougar with its cubs! This one cost me like 44 OMR ($114) with an 80% discount, and typically around $200-250 without a discount and more for some models.
 
Bucket seats that hug your body are meant for racing cars. I have no idea who ever thought that it's a good idea to be unable to move in a chair meant for a desk to play games and how it caught on.

If you sit a lot in a chair and play games or sit long periods of time in it, invest in a good chair. Instead of having a dud that kills your back or breaks every 2 seconds because its all plastic.

Been with Secret Lab for 4 years now. Loving the cookie colour. Everyone who has seen it said it is very premium and worth a lot more than the price it is selling for

Never get that shit

Look for a local office refurbishing business, the kind that empties a closed office and resell at cheap prices. You'll get a Herman miller Aeron for $300 that looks brand new. They typically have a ton of ergonomic chair choices, especially with the pandemic, many offices were emptied.

I got an Humanscale freedom with headrest like new for $400 Canadian, while the starting price here is $1600.

Hermann Miller Aeron was the worst investment I ever made. After hearing so many good things about them I ordered one because no where in my area to actually try one out. I hate it. Not sure what it is but can't stand sitting in it for more than 45 minutes.
I bought a "gaming chair" from Costco a few years back and it's perfect for me.

hermann stuff seems like a scam to me.
Secretlab and other premium brands are 3-4 times cheaper and offer tha same or greater range of adjustments.
 
Last year, I was working from home and sitting down most of the day was slowly starting to destroy my back. So, I looked into what chairs would be best and I fell into the whole "office chairs are better than gaming chairs" rabbit hole. I came out with the understanding that good chairs are good and bad chairs are bad. Nothing specifically horrible about gaming chairs in general. Heck, there are tons of horrible office chairs. Gaming chairs just get more attention when they suck, I guess, because they're flashy.

Anyway, long story short, Secretlab. I fricken love it and it makes my back happy. Considering buying a second for the house because I took the one I had to work.

Interesting… I've had the complete opposite experience..

I work from home, and, as a result, have used quite a number of different chairs over the years.

I used to buy the typical high back office chair from Office Depot every few years or so, as well as tried a few "high-end" gaming chairs. They all sat about the same and ultimately either developed annoying squeaks or sounds, or broke down after two or three years…

I actually threw my back several years ago out sitting in these types of chairs (because majority of them are not ergonomic) and moved to a "cheap" alternate brand of an ergonomic model designed to compete with the HM Aeron. Overall .. better sitting experience, less back pain - but same problem as previous chairs.. noisy and eventually broke down after about a year or two of use…

I finally decided to look into the HM Aeron after this last one broke down, initially tried to find a used one locally because of the price but ultimately bought a new one when it went on sale …

Simply Put - the best chair I've ever owned. Period.

I will say it took me about 6 months to get used to the chair ("break-in"), including constantly tweaking and adjusting to my personal settings. However, now, it fits perfectly and I experience no back pain using the chair.

Also - I'm entering year 4 of owning the chair and it operates and performs like it was brand new. No squeaks or issues at all.

Keep in mind that there are multiple sizes of the Aeron as well, certainly important to understand when buying one …

Certainly recommended. But even I was considering at one point returning the chair right after I bought it due to how long it took to get adjusted to it. I'm glad I didn't.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. If you haven't already - You can probably sell it for a very good price as well and recoup some of your money.

If you are referring to console gaming, the later is really cool. It has subwoofer built into the chair and 4 satellite speakers, 2 at the ears and 2 below. Thing rocks back and forth and vibrates on explosions and when your controller vibrates.
I had one of these, a lower version then what is pictured and loved it. Also had a been bag chair. The rocker was good until the support in the middle broke and my butt was hitting the floor. I guess these aren't made for 30/40 somethings, lol...
(at least the version i got.

At the time the couch and chair were 15ft away from the tv in my old house's finished basement. I wanted to sit closer while gaming and didn't want to move the couch. This worked.

New house, new future wife, and I have dedicated game room with chairs near the tv so this isn't needed. Much better setup, much better life...


As for the office chairs i had one I got from staples and it was awesome! Now i wouldn't use it as my main work chair. They are good for a few hours but not for 8-12 hour work shifts.
Really though they arnet much different then any other office chair, outside of cool patterns. There maybe some with speakers ,rumble or some other concept but I haven't seen them.

As most people have it seems. Like it's obviously a high quality chair but it just doesn't work for me. Not sure why either as I'm average height/weight and no disabilities/injuries or anything like that.
Moral of the story is try before you buy I guess.

You can relax your legs when you sleep (and you are getting 8-odd hours of sleep, right GAF? Right?).

I used to love standing desks. May have to create a make shift one in my current living situation. Became rather lazy over the past few years and just sat instead.
 
I had a gaming chair but threw it out for a Herman Miller Aeron Remastered office chair (and an Atlas headrest) and I'm very happy about it. For long hours doing stuff it's one of the best, wish I had one at the office as well, but it's not a chair to be half asleep in so-to-speak (which I guess is why some people are surprised that it lacks travel in its materials).

I'm surprised to see so much SecretLab love. My experience with a 2020 Titan XL (charcoal blue softweave) was not great. The adjustable lumbar support wasn't very good and kept losing its adjustment, needing to be readjusted every time I sat down. The head pillow, while soft, was a pain in the ass to keep properly adjusted. The seat felt like sitting on a concrete slab. Everyone kept telling me I just needed to break it in and that I'd get used to it but after 8+ months it still felt as hard as day one and my tailbone hated it.

I eventually sold it and used the money to buy a Serta Smart Layers Jennings fat ass Big and Tall chair which has been infinitely more comfortable to use for prolonged gaming sessions than the 2020 Titan XL ever was. It doesn't have the ability for the back to recline like the SecretLab chair does but I rarely used that feature anyway.

Edit: Anyone here had any experience with the Autonomous AI line of chairs? I'm interested in the Ergo Chair Pro (for home office/my wife's crafting area, not gaming), but they never get mentioned in the same discussion with Hermann Miller or Steelcase.

Any regular or gaming chair under $500 (or even $1000?) is crap.
So the more they try to make it "fancy" or "cool" for the same price, the more they'll suck.
 
"Gaming" chairs are dumb.

If you want a good chair for gaming, just buy an Aeron chair or something. They are designed for people who sit in their office 8 hours a day.

I've been searching for a new chair for a very long time, and it's really a nightmare.
My previous chair broke, but it wasn't great, and my current one, while decent, doesn't have any armrest and that really hurts my mouse arm when playing mouse and keyboard games, it's awful.

I bought a gaming chair that I sent back because the seat was way too short and too inclined, which was uncomfortable on the legs. I then bought a mesh office chair but I returned it too because of multiple reasons, it seemed fine when I tried it in the store, but at home it was too low, the lumbar support was too hard and uncomfortable, the backrest was too curved and hurt my back, and the problem with mesh chair is that you can feel the frame on the sides.
I also tried multiple chairs in the very FEW stores I could find around me, there are really not a lot in my region, so I could never find anything decent.

I've been tempted by the Secretlab Titan for a while, but I really don't know, I'm super scared about buying that without being able to return it if it doesn't work for me (it's apparently very complicated / impossible to return it, and expensive fees).
Some people say great things about it, and I like that it can come in big sizes (I'm 1.85m), I heard that it's apparently the most soft of the gaming chairs out there, and at the same time some other people say it's like sitting on a wood plank, so I really don't know what to believe.
I would go with the XL, Fabric version if I had to pick one, but I'm really not sure, too scared about actually buying it, but I really need to decide on something at some point.

The whole myth about finding 1000$+ office chairs for 300$ when offices get rid of them is incredibly frustrating too because it just seems like a myth, I've never found anything like this in real life. It's maybe more common in the US or something? But here in France I never saw such good deals, even far from my location. The best deals are all in Paris, which is like at the complete opposite of the country for me, not really an option, but even there it's rarely as good as people online talk about.
Among the expensive chairs I was interested in the Gesture because of its amazing arm rests, but I'm scared the backrest will be too curved for me, and they only sell the version with the additional lumbar support here in France, so it would be even worse.

I really don't know, but shopping for a chair has been my worse shopping experience in my life, never struggled so much to find an item that works for me.

Had a cheap one and it was awful.

Decided to skip an expensive one and go straight for a proper office chair.
 
I had a regular desktop chair back then. It had a head cushion and it was awesome because it supported my head but also was a little bit under it which mean I could rest my neck too when needed.

Then it began to fall apart so I had to change, and all the chair I was seeing didn't have any support for the head. Only gamers chairs had them. So I bought one, and let me tell you it's a let down. Of yourse your head is sustained, but the problem is that you can't rest your neck. You're forced to always have your spine completely straight and it's not comfortable in the long run. But then, you can tilt it right? And It's gonna be more comfortable right? Well it was... And I fell from it once because it couldn't handle my ~85 Kg and now it even broke so i can't really do that anymore, and that matter around the armrests is also beginning to fall apart.

TL;DR: Dont' buy gamer chairs: Having no head support is not that bad comparatively to being forced to stay upright all along in your chair.
 
I thought all gaming chairs were garbage (I still suspect most of them are), then I got a Secretlab and it is super comfortable. I now use it as my work-from-home chair everyday.

Tl;dr: Buy a good chair ('gamer' chair or not).

I got a new gaming chair this summer. Tested quite a few and was reading lots of tests before deciding on a chair.
Before that I used to use a regular office chair, and although it took some time to adjust to the new chair, now it feels very good. It's basically just a very good quality office chair with extra back support and adjustable parts. My posture is a lot better after I started using this, and it's very subtle in it's look. Plain grey, no screaming colours and big logos like many of these gaming chairs have.
Many of these looks like they're designed by 10 year olds.

I bought a gaming chair quite a few years ago now, before the price hike of recent times and from my point of view, they are not worth it.
