I absolutely refuse to buy the SM set. Which sucks because I love the first two... but as long as Sony tries raping me on that fucking third movie I'm going to just have to say no.

Same with Warner and the fucking Matrix. If you want to see any money out of me for that franchise Warner, you better release the first one as a separate release.

And I bought Ultimate Superman for crying out loud.

Well, guys, I TRIED to go format neutral, but I failed. Got ripped off on Ebay, $400 down the drain, and now I have 3 Blu Ray movies at home with nothing to watch them on. I was really looking forward to typing a huge post talking about how happy I was to be format neutral and enjoying BR movies, I wanted it as my 1000th post on this thread. :( I feel terrible.

Now I'm out $400, don't know when I'll be able to save up again for a Ps3, and just flat out devastated. I'm not poor, but that was $400 and it's not something I can just easily put up again. My format neutral dreams have been crushed. It's not like I'm stupid either. This guy had perfect feedback (74 at the time), but now there are like 3 negative feedbacks in a row for him, all related to Ps3's not being shipped. Obviously, none were there at the time I made my bid. I had this same thing happen to me on a PsP and I never got all my money back. This is pretty devastating for me. I was really looking forward to getting my Ps3 and checking out the movies I have here.

Like I said, I had this happen before, and never got all my money back. It'll take forever too, so even if I get ANYTHING back, which I doubt, it'll be by next year probably.

I'm so depressed right now.

Now, there are two "tiers" that determine how much money you are eligible to get back, but the explanations are too vague for me to determine if I'm eligible to get all my money back or perhaps just half. I can't stress enough how bad I feel right now. I was pretty psyched about watching some BR movies this week. :(

Looks like you should get all of it back, as the seller's feedback was 98%+ at the time of your bidding. This assumes that the seller's Paypal account was "verified", which you should see in your paypal history.

Next time, I'd avoid auctions with titles like "Sony PlayStation 3 60GB for sell", and where the item is "new, only took one of them out to take some pictures they got a 60 GB hardrive"

I know how it feels...I recently bought an amp on ebay for $700 and it turned out to be a dud. My heart sank when I first turned it on...and all the money I lost :-(

I appreciate your help, but c'mon now, don't try to pin this on me bidding like a blind idiot. He had perfect feedback, had already successfully sold Ps3's (including one with the EXACT SAME WORDING) and there was really no clues that he would pull this kind of stunt. I'm pretty careful about the auctions I bid on, and if you've been on Ebay long enough, you know that you can never be certain that you won't get ripped off.

btw, he was a verified paypal user.

Sorry - didn't mean to give the impression that I was blaming the victim. My point is that feedback isn't the only thing, particularly when accounts can be hijacked. The odd grammar in that auction was one notch better than a "PS3 box brand new MINT" auction (although, it looks like he might have actually come through on one of the sales... but it's suspicious that "crazywheelies84" bought something from him in May, and then a PS3 as part of your auction).

I seriously think you'll get it all back in a situation like this. It's a physical good that he just didn't send and has vanished off the face of the earth, and he appears to be a Paypal "confirmed" seller. Keep on them.

I personally wouldn't do business with anyone who can't even describe a product correctly though :p His history is weird... especially the last month.

OCT. 29 | Consumer electronics manufacturers and studios that back the Blu-ray Disc format have kicked off a new educational effort with the tagline “I do Blu.”

The branding effort broke with a TV spot Sunday during the final game of the World Series. In the spot, a generically branded HDTV and Blu-ray player hold hands by way of their electrical cords. Film clips from such popular franchises as Spider-Man and Harry Potter also were shown.
The ad is expected to also translate to print.

Blu-ray backers want the ads to emphasize the marriage of Blu-ray and HDTV.

“Some people believe you can plug a DVD player into a high-def TV and that’s the best you can get,” said Dan Silverberg, VP of HD media development for Warner Home Video. The ads, he said, “marry the concept of Blu-ray discs and TV.”

Select studios and electronics manufacturers are “funding this incremental education,” said Silverberg, who was networking at the Blu-ray Festival press event hosted by the Blu-ray Disc Assn., 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Panasonic in Los Angeles Monday and Tuesday.

The goal behind the fest is educational, aiming to boost consumer and trade media attendees’ knowledge of the format.

During a Blu-ray Disc Assn. presentation, Andy Parsons, Pioneer senior VP of product planning, reiterated the format’s sales dominance over HD DVD.

Through September, Blu-ray sold 3 million software units, outselling rival HD DVD by a two-to-one ratio, he said.

In fact, SPHE sold its 1 millionth Blu-ray disc last week, with its release of Surf’s Up.

Sony will bow Spider-Man 3, sure to be its biggest Blu-ray release to date, on Tuesday.

Sony has a B2G1 promotion on 12 discs, which is buying two off the list of 12 and getting one free after $2.99 S&H. It's a bit of a weak list, though it's better than no "free" one at all. Starts today, goes to 12/15/07.

The gloves are off. Backers of the high-definition Blu-ray Disc format are staging a two-day offensive in Hollywood this week, touting their triumphs and offering previews of upcoming releases such as Cars, Ratatouille, the “Die Hard” movies, Dirty Dancing and Spider-Man 3 to a crowd of more than 50 influential print and online journalists.

The event, which concludes Tuesday, could be seen as a guns-blazing pre-emptive strike against the rival HD DVD camp, which almost simultaneously got a boost from Wal-Mart and other retailers, which reportedly began selling HD DVD players for just less than $200. That is expected to give the HD DVD format a significant boost, particularly in the wake of Paramount Home Entertainment’s defection several weeks ago from the Blu-ray side.

The so-called “Blu-ray Festival” coincides with the launch of a new branding and consumer education campaign, with the tagline “I Do Blu,” that premiered Oct. 28 during the final game of the World Series.

Both the campaign and the festival, the latter orchestrated by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, underscore growing sentiments, backed by research, that consumers are largely indifferent to high-definition discs and turned off even more by the presence of two incompatible formats.

To combat this, Blu-ray backers are stepping up the rhetoric and courting the press, particularly the new vanguard of online Web sites, bloggers and discussion boards that cater to the early adopters who historically have set trends the masses have followed.

“It’s a great idea,” said Ron Epstein, a founder of the Home Theater Forum, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. “The early adopters are all on the Internet — that’s where they find their information. And there’s a certain brand new, just happened element.”

“These are the people who are regularly covering technological advances in home entertainment,” said Steve Feldstein, SVP of marketing and corporate communications for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. “They are at the forefront of the format, as are their readers.”

Representatives of all the Blu-ray-exclusive studios — Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment — were in attendance at the Monday morning opening breakfast, as were key executives with supporting consumer electronics manufacturers such as Sony, Philips and Panasonic.

That may not be for long, Silverberg said. “One thing that may be changing is our strategy,” he said. “When both formats launched and hardware prices were high, we made a decision to support both formats and let the consumer decide. But now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide — so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter.”

Silverberg noted that Warner has the top-selling Blu-ray title of all time with 300 and is consistently No. 1 or No. 2 in both Blu-ray sales market share and in number of Blu-ray titles in the market.

“We can definitely talk Blu-ray,” he said. “We are committed to the format.” At the Monday morning kickoff, the featured speaker was David Berman, director of Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA), a buying consortium of 62 dealers and 800 installers with combined revenue of more than half a billion dollars a year. He said the HTSA supports Blu-ray because a member survey found 92% favoring Blu-ray over HD DVD.

The press was given a fact sheet of more statistics and Blu-ray milestones, including the fact that even in a week in which Transformers came out on HD DVD and with no comparable title in its lineup, Blu-ray Discs still managed to outsell discs in the rival format. So far this year, Blu-ray titles have outsold HD DVD titles by a 2-to-1 margin. Since inception, Blu-ray software sales have accounted for 61% of high-def disc software sales. And 17 of the 20 top-selling high-definition disc titles are available on Blu-ray.

There also were indications that the Blu-ray camp is done playing nice. At the entrance to the opening breakfast, at the Hollywood and Highland complex, was a huge blowup of a Deadline Hollywood article by renegade online columnist Nikki Finke. The article raised questions about Paramount Home Entertainment’s claim that it sold 190,000 copies of Transformers on HD DVD in a single week.

Later in the day, on the 20th Century Fox lot, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment president Mike Dunn blasted Paramount for its defection, accusing the studio of “taking the bait,” referring to a reported $50 million payout to drop its support of Blu-ray Disc and release titles exclusively in HD DVD.

Dunn also intimated that the format war is being perpetuated by Microsoft in the hopes of confusing consumers so much they don’t support either format and ultimately buy their entertainment online. He didn’t name the computer giant by name, but blasted “the orchestrated campaigns of confusion and anti-consumerism fueled by an 800-pound gorilla [Microsoft] that would prefer to force us all into the practice of paying tolls for the right to exchange information and enjoy entertainment.”

Fox also previewed several Blu-ray Disc titles still in development, including I, Robot, Independence Day and Sunshine, which will be released early next year and boast picture-in-picture, audio mixing and other groundbreaking interactive features.

I would hate to be Sony or Toshiba when dealing with Warner because they both definitely need to kiss mucho ass. Sounds like they are still happy with Blu though.

Interesting comment by Warner though. They have always been 100% neutral, but this is the first I've heard of them defecting to anything. They're definitely laying the groundwork to where if they WERE to go to just one format, it would be on their accord, and not moneyhats.

This just got a whole lot more interesting.

I saw the "I do blu" ad last night. Aside from the lame tag-line it was a pretty good informative comercial.
Really i think the best way to get people to see hi def is like one of the blu-ray demos that has a line that goes across the screen showing one half in 480p and the other have in 1080p, i have seen people freak out at this demo. :lol
That and just giving hd players with nice TVs.

Which one is the UPC code? Is it the white sticker with the Serial Number, Lot Number, etc?
