So I finally found some free time and sat down to play this, if only for an hour. I'm not a huge fan of games like DMC, because I have difficulty remembering all the infinite amount of combos, but I think my problem was that I could never really give a shit about characters and the stories themselves and thus not immersing myself in the game itself. I gave up on Scarlet Nexus pretty early and DMC5 attempts at humour made my teeth ache. But this one works like a charm - it is instantly likeable, has a lot of music that I listened 15-20 years ago and actually made me chuckle more than one occasion. And, ha, I actually remember the combos instead of just spamming all the buttons.

Still have to work on my timing. Usually get around 60-70%, but I think it is because I played on wireless headphones.

No reviews yet?

Like Bayonetta/Devil May Cry ? Are you an enjoyer of music ? Appreciate cartoony / anime / cel shaded art styles? Dabbled with rhythm games before and found some mild enjoyment?

Then this game might be a 10/10 for you. Find out for only 29.99€. From the makers of The Evil Within and blessed by Shinji Mikami, try Hi Fi Rush. Out now

Achievement notifications seem bugged but restarting your Xbox is supposed to fix this. Finished the second boss today. I'm still having a good time but it hasn't gotten its' claws into me yet. I think that has something to do with the default difficulty level.
I saw a couple of people posting that notifications were bugged but i was playing high on life yesterday and the achievements also didnt pop on my xbox. However they did pop on my phone so it is or was probably an xbox live issue and not the game itself

There's a delay for all attacks. Between hitting the light attack perfectly on beat and when the attack hits is a huge window. it doesn't actually land until the next beat.

Light attack pressed on beat 1 won't hit until beat 2. Heavy attack pressed on beat 1 won't hit until beat 3.
Man is your latency off? That isn't true. Light attacks hit when the dudes yell for on the beat hit. They aren't delayed. The heavy attacks are delayed a beat but heavy attacks are always slower

The first attack kind of feels like it has a delay, but once it connects and you start a combo, it is perfectly on beat. Overall, it feels great to control.

I’m already a sucker for Hi-Fi Rush though I’m interested in reception by media

I felt that too, but the game pushes/delays that first attack to always match the beat. You won't get the hurrah sound you would if you nail it, but it sets you up to still get combos beyond the first hit.
I am five levels in and almost always miss the first beat, but I've gotten quite good at the combos and I'm loving being airborne during the majority of most fights. Game rules!

Does the game open up? i got to the big city and figured it would go open world from there but its still just a bunch of linear corridor levels.

Not feeling the combat so far but my son seems to love it.

Better in terms of good will, certainly. Better in terms of audience awareness and mind share? I seriously doubt it. If you aren't very clued in to gaming media you still haven't heard about this one.

I guess it depends on what MS's goal is here. GamePass is still a new frontier in terms of a business model.

Maybe they expect people to just log in to Game Pass and see an interesting box art and click it. Or just for word of mouth to carry it. That's definitely possible but none of my gamer friends had heard about it when I asked them and that's not a good sign.
Your putting way to much thought energy into this, word of mouth will carry this game for months. There is no hard deadline on how much this can sell in a certain amount of time.
The games released, word of mouth will carry it.
If you haven’t witnessed what a real sleeper hit is. This is it in motion.

The fact that you haven’t played it (guessing you haven’t) and have this many complaints? Why would anyone take you seriously?

Dude, a lot of people are talking about this game and blown away by it....It came out 2 days ago....lets that organic growth happen.....organically.

Either I suck or the Achievments are borked on mine. Come to think of it I've not seen an achievment popup in any game for a long time. I might have it turned off or something.
Wife came home last night and I turned the sound down all the way and just played for a few min using the bouncy cat head as a que. Not as fun but worked.

I might have to pick this up. It looks incredible.

While I like realistic graphics too, I've always loved this animation style. I don't know what capabilities this particular engine has, but there really isn't any kind of game that you couldn't make with animations this smooth (shooters -3rd and 1st, adventure, rpg, etc.). Somehow the more hand drawn look allows for really imaginative environments and characters.

Pay attention to the baseline of the music for the most part. Practice the timing a bit when an area uses a new song and you'll get the timing down okay, I don't have much of an ear for it myself and that is working for me. Using my headset vs. earbuds seemed to help me out as well. LOL

Yes, the gameplay syncs with the music. Try tapping your toe if you can't get it at first.

You could also change the sound balance so there's more music - just turn everything else down a little.

Yes, just tap to the kick drum. You can mash it up like X X X Y Y X X Y Y. You can also do subdivision too. Just like playing guitar lol.

Just count the down beats. 1, 2, 3, 4. Tap your foot. Look at the character snapping his fingers when idling and double that speed, tap. He also does a foot tap in between combos to show the beat. Also everything in the environment dances to the same tempo. He even runs at that tempo with his footsteps I believe.

I almost never, ever replay a game. I think the last time I did was Dark Souls or Mario Odyssey maybe five years ago.
This one, I fully plan on playing through again as I feel I'm actually learning how to play it better as I go.

I hope so! We'll see as the months go on, I guess.

I've been playing it and I love the shit out of it. Absolutely a 9/10. I'm not complaining about the game, I'm worried it won't get the notice it deserves.

I wonder if it's an issue with your TV? Light attacks here have no delay. Matches entirely on beat the second I press.

No he's correct. Hits land on the beat, but it's the next beat. That's just how the game works. But you still get the sound on the first beat (if you've hit your timing), so it all feels right.
