Hi-Fi RUSH |OT| Dance to the Tango (Game Works)

I wonder if it's an issue with your TV? Light attacks here have no delay. Matches entirely on beat the second I press.
I'm a drummer and I'm having more trouble with this than other rhythm games. I think I'd prefer it if attacks failed when you missed the beat rather than adjusting the animation. It creates a disconnect between your inputs and what you see on the screen which just doesn't feel right to me in this kind of game. Everything else about it is great but that's a significant hangup.

Played it for a few hours. It is so nice to see developers try new ideas. Love the game.

Imagine having to get dragged through the mud online for not having a presence at The Game Awards (amidst the FTC drama), knowing you're about to shadow drop one of the best and beautiful action games in years.

This is fucking incredible, best game of the generation outside of elden ring

This is one of the greatest videogames ever made and almost certainly one of the best new IP in a very, long, long time.

This feels like old-school gaming brought to modern times.
My goodness. Some of you have absolutely no shame at all.

You get the crowd sounds when you're landing on the beat, and the little musical note appears over his head. That's the feedback you need to cue into.

It does take time to get into the groove. You need to make sure your TV isn't too laggy also, turn off all the extra processing if you can.

^absolutely this. You don't want any delay/lag in this game if you want to take advantage of the boosts. If you are a button masher and don't care or know the difference, then your TV lag (if you have it) won't be a concern.

I hope so! We'll see as the months go on, I guess.

I've been playing it and I love the shit out of it. Absolutely a 9/10. I'm not complaining about the game, I'm worried it won't get the notice it deserves.
No no, I wouldn’t worry about it not getting noticed. When a game that’s this good that comes out of left field and surprises everyone, the game will get noticed.

Now the question for me is, has anyone heard about this game. Was there word around the campfire about tango doing something completely light hearted and completely different from what to expect from them? I can’t believe this didn’t leak or did it and no one took it seriously?

Man is your latency off? That isn't true. Light attacks hit when the dudes yell for on the beat hit. They aren't delayed. The heavy attacks are delayed a beat but heavy attacks are always slower

My latency is more than fine. And no, light hits don't hit on the yell, they hit on the beat after the yell. I even went back last night to confirm exactly what I said.

Light hits pressed on beat 1 hit on beat 2.
Heavy hits pressed on beat 1 hit on beat 3.

Yes they do. You get the yell on the beat you press, but the attack doesn't happen until the next beat.

Yep it's explained in the tutorial, your attacks always land on the beat regardless of your timing, that way it provides you with a visual cue. The one beat delay thing is how all of this works.

RGB'D RGB'D heavy attacks are not delayed, they last 2 beats.

Enemy attacks also land on the beat, so there are plenty of visual references to help with timing of attacks and dodges.

I get that they put the delay in there for people with no rhythm, so when they press a button late the action still happens on a beat.

But for me, who plays lots of high skill rhythm games, it just makes everything feel like it's happening late.

Imagine Metal Hellsinger but your actions happen a beat after. It would feel terrible.

How long is this game?

About as long as you want it to be it seems. It seems like it has proper AAA length. There is tons of customization and depth. The more you play, the more secrets get revealed.

There are RPG conversation sections not very different from what you would get in Mass Effect during downtime or in a game like Persona when you're around friends.

They had talked last year about how they planned to release something very "off-brand" for them, the complete opposite of Evil Within, but that was about it. The name "Hi-Fi Rush" also leaked a few days before the announcement so people kind of knew something was coming, but not what it was, exactly.

Considering the game has been in development (or at least pre-production) since 2018, that's still pretty impressive.

(Side note, the game's not really off brand at all when you consider their history with Platinum and Clover. This totally feels like an extention of that. Platinum should be pretty jealous right now.)

Zero shame in calling it one of the greatest videogames ever made. One of the very first things I said on here when it was revealed was that it looked like my dream game basically.

The director himself called it just that. This game is truly fantastic and one of a kind. The game is really every bit that good. It is easily my GOTY as of now.

Yeh I think people who are not rhythmically inclined are misunderstanding the mechanics somewhat. It's actually pretty simple. Timing is 4/4 and everything you do must fit into that on the beat.

I'm playing on a 1ms response time monitor at 180fps.. with nvidia reflex on. definitely not a display issue. everything feels great until combat where something is just off for me. I'm sure I'd get used to it.

If that was the only feedback, then yeah, but they were smart about it. When you're hitting your beats right, you get a little "Hey" or similar chant, and a little musical note over your head, so you get that immediate feedback, and then the hit syncs to the following beat.

I think when people start out, they're missing a lot of beats so they aren't getting that extra layer of feedback and the game just feels sort of lagged, but once you get the groove of it, it all clicks.

Excellent, that's the way to play. You'll get it, it takes a little bit to click.

The game has made me legit laugh a couple of times, and I only just now beat the third stage.
Same. I really think it comes down to delivery. Robbie Daymond just has a timing and inflection with Chai that makes his aloof brand of stupidity often charming and witty as opposed to just pure annoyance (like I got far too often with Forspoken). Everyone has different tastes, but I think this game is far funnier than what it's peers do such as Borderlands and the like.

He also starts the attack on the beat and it works really well with the guitar notes/hits coming on the accents of the beats. I was wrong after going back in but it works so well in the music of it all. I am not a rhythm only gamer but I am a musician and do lots of studio drum works. The groove felt so easy to lock in that I guess I missed that it is delayed with regard to his guitar contacting the enemies.

I find myself comboing in time with the music a lot.

I know the hits add the guitar but on the bosses and as the music builds you can tap in time with signature instrumental sections and it really works.

It's great.

I'm still trying to get into the beat matching mechanic, can't seem to hit it consistently even with all the aids, especially on the heavy attacks and dashes. Still really enjoying the game, only gripe I have is on PC cutscenes play out at 60fps, and the game hard drops from higher FPS. I'm playing at 120, and it lurches to 60 every cutscene and the fluidity really takes a hit.

In case you are not doing it already, try to tap your foot on the beat and focus on that instead of music. It really helped me with Metal Hellsinger and it helps here too.

50% of my complaints about the game (I only had 2) were addressed the instant I unlocked parry. Love parry so much more than dodge.

The other 50% are the QTEs. Still hate those.

This came out of nowhere for me.

Yet we have some early access crap hyped to the moon for years or "often wishisted" games you couldn't even played once.

But this here, giving me some Sunset Overdrive vibes, is definitely going to the shopping basket.

Im playing this after gotham knights. The contrast between these 2 games are staggering. Gotham knights took away my soul, this game just healed it. The crazy thing is, the game just keeps getting better as it goes. So much style, so much fun and incredible polish

Yep! Just keeps getting better.

Agreed. Some of those lengthy QTEs are infuriating!! Glad they are not often and seem to only be outside of combat - at least so far for me up to Chapter 5.
I did comically bad at the end of the lava level switch QTE.

Felt like this:

Yes, I redid the Lava level switch way too many times, and it was the inspiration for my post.

I was never very good at rhythm + playing at the same time, so I find it difficult to have a good ratio (always around 60/70%). Couldn't get into Crypt of the Necrodancer back then.

Still enjoying it, but not being better at it is a bit frustrating, especially for someone who has completed Bayonetta in Infinite Climax and Razor's Edge. I guess I have to improve.

YES!!!!!!!!!!! It's why I'm so blown away by it. This isn't some shallow, smaller game. It's very deep with lots of layers.

This game made me a fan of this song.

Perfect Boss Fight music.

Every post of yours is praise with zero substance. “It is such a great game!“ “It is not shallow or small, it is like a AAA game!” “Its so great!”

I usually find that rhythm games take a while to get the “feel” of. Usually by the time I am near the 70-80% mark, it all clicks. Add that to the same issue in character action games wher eyou don’t unlock the full kit until that point (or in DMCs case, post game). NG+ and replays of levels with those new abilities/better feel of the music feels so damn good. By the time I played my second and third playthrough of Cadence of Hyrule and BPM, I was a god never missing a beat.

Also the parry completely fixes a lot of the issues I was having earlier in the game, so if you haven’t gotten that yet it will greatly help. If you have, make sure to utilize it as often as possible. Also make sure to use your Buddy attacks during beat moments And practice combos in the arena. A lot of the songs (so far) are pretty similar in beat, so you should get a good rhythm down after a few days of playing and practicing. And you want to come back to get those mural painting rewards.

I could not get into this game. I came back to it today and it just clicked. I feel like the hint bot Smidge taught me better than the tutorial. I am locked in now. Super fucking fun.

What's your audio set up? I'm a drummer too and I've had some issues with latency. My PC and steam deck are fine but my xbox is running through a sonos arc with an lg cx and it's completely broken. On PC I'm perfectly on beat and getting s tier points usually scoring A's but on my xbox on my TV I can't even get the dash to go three times.

It's my only fault with the game, that audio sync screen is wack. They need to patch it to where you tap in time with the music you are hearing like rock band/ guitar hero.

Hope you get it sorted.

Well, got to the parry mechanic part of the game. I hate this mechanic in any game, especially when they force on you with certain enemies like those laser turrets. Anyone who is further along than R&D, does that become a common enemy to fight?

Later enemies will have longer parry combo windows. Eventually it'll click for you and you'll parry to the beat of their very telegraphed attacks. Small enemies won't offer parrying windows per se, but you'll be able to parry their one-off snipe attacks etc at your leisure.

But yes, parries will be required more frequently and from different enemies.

Boom, thank you! Me and my son were playing last night and we kept saying the dude feels so familiar, reminds us of someone we’ve seen before.
The Aladdin attitude comparison is right on.
I was thinking more along the lines of the character work in Warner Bros' Iron Giant. Some of Chai's facial expressions are very "Hogarth Hughes".

The game is terrific fun...Tango have clearly been getting out their videogame Ouija board and channeling the spirit of Dreamcast.
