Hideki Kamiya shits all over Kotaku

I'm pretty sure the word here is "xenophobia". I only remark on it because you're using xenophoby so much, and it hurts my head a little every time I see it.

Not trying to discredit your argument (good or bad, Japan's obsession with its uniqueness and/or xenophobia is a reaction to European colonial imperialism), but clearer communication is always a good thing.

Thanks. I also said "did I said".

The Kotaku piece is pretty casually stupid in the way that many of these sorts of articles are. Kamiya's reaction is rude, but if I was a public figure who'd made the same dedication to personally responding to absolutely everybody who posted to me on Twitter, I'd probably inevitably tell those I didn't

What irritates me is that no one cares about the underlying ignorance of these articles and the cultural closed-mindedness (and sense of cultural superiority) they represent, despite being extremely widespread and systemic - but immediately jump on the xenophobia of a Japanese individual. Incredibly hypocritical. The general view reflected in the gaming press of Japan as land of tentacles, sushi and panty machines is A-OK. One Japanese individual's xenophobia, nope.

Ice Cold and well deserved. I didn't actually know it was possible for me to worship Kamiya and Platinum more than I already did but this is amazing.

Do you eat shit?

The attitude behind the stupidity in the original article is far too common . I don't know how many times I've had to read generalizations about "Japan" from every random odd thing or in the reverse confirming the stereotypes that people believe from reading articles on sites like Kotaku. Ashcraft does sometimes write interesting articles about Japanese politics or culture but it's swimming in a sea of articles that belong in a tabloid "oddly enough" section of a newspaper.

shit seems like it's gotten to the point where people out there just want to purposely agitate the guy because everyone knows he's a complete ass and kind of a dick.

the fact you all get off on the fact he acts this way is kind of baffling.

Hmm, this thread is still going on, but none of the arguments have changed since page 3 or 4. I'm at least glad mine is still around.

Do you not accept the Almighty Kamiya as your Lord and Saviour? Repent and accept Him or, by the power vested in me, I will put you to the sword! All hail Kamiya!

People freaking out about "foreigners" is just the ultimate irony. Japanese gaming, and all of Japanese culture has been smeared on these blogs basically every day for the last several years. Even just yesterday in the thread showing off Platinum's 2013 lineup I remember one commenter saying "Just when you thought it was safe to ignore Japanese games ...." and no one called him out for it. Kotaku runs shit culture articles every day to try and make Japan seem as fucked up as possible, only picking the weirdest shit.

Kamiya lashes back once after their article basically uses him to call all of Japan "clueless," and you guys act like you give a damn about xenophobia now? Give me a break. It's getting to the point of reverse racism because if anyone's been the victim of constant bashing and race-based generalizations in gaming this gen, it's the Japanese.

Just look at the comments on that initial Kotaku article on Kamiya's comments, merely saying he's not interested in PC gaming. "Just when I thought Japan couldn't be any more behind than they already are ..." and on and on.

Cry me a river. Oh no, he said "foreigners."

Well said, after the beating Japanese devs have taken from the western game press it's nice to have someone representing Japan have the balls to stand up and say something. Kamiya makes some great games and I like his ballsy attitude. Though truthfully I'll occasionally read Jason Schreier's Kotaku stuff, but I'm not a huge fan of the rest of the site.

What the hell are you talking about?

Well between this and that other tweet that you guys swarmed over when he told that dude to use his own head or some shit doesn't exactly make him out to be full of sunshines and rainbows. He definitely seems to have a bit of an abrasive personality.

He says "stupid fucking idiot gaijin". The word "gaijin" got translated as "foreigner". I'm not taking offense with the word "gaijin", but as I said throwing "stupid fucking idiot" in front of it makes it negative.

It does make it negative in English. I'm not sure the juxtaposition of words achieves the exact same effect in Japanese rather than something like "those fucking idiots, who are foreigners", which is closer to what I understood when taking into account the whole thing, i.e. neither a generalization nor an implication that said people were idiots because they were foreigners.

Now for the translation note how "some" was conveniently forgotten. Kamiya then throwing the truncated text back at that guy who called him a pussy just came off to me as "if you want to be offended, go ahead and fuck off".

I find it hard to believe that people are genuinely offended by what Kamiya called a bunch of idiots on twitter. And seeing as a bunch of people missed it, he wasn't telling Plunkett to eat shit, he was comparing reading the article to the act of eating shit.

pretty much this. dude wants attention as much as kotaku does.
That's just not true. He doesn't need attention, he get's it for free, by his fans and even those that are not, while Kotaku needs it to print money.

He clearly said that some foreigners, those that got on his nerves every single day, are idiots. Some japanese are fucking idiots, some german people are, so are people all over the world, what's racist/xenophobic about it? Just because he named the majority of them? Why do so many GAFers try to interpret it as anything else?

I'm sure he doesn't give a shit about reputation but it's hard watching someone insult the general public when they don't deserve it.
Are you part of those that send him stupid tweets? If no, than he didn't insult you nor the general public.

So is Kotaku going to be banned or what?

Nah. I think sites only get banned if users are using them to make assertions that plainly are not true.

E.g. Chartz/Some blogs for 'rumours'.
I'd say theres a bit of 'crossover' with the likes of Kotaku but generally they just irritate some users as oppose to being some negative force on the forum.

Kamiya is pretty chill when he's not bombarded with stupidity. He just wants to interact with his fans, then a couple guy, they were up to no good, started... trolling him for reactions. This is why we can't have nice things.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't consider being outspoken, not taking shit from people, and refusing to answer stupid questions the hallmarks of a "complete ass".

It's not like he goes out of his way to be mean.

lol, it's working it's way there. I can't think of the last time a 20+ page about one of their articles wasn't just the result of some dumb controversy they started.

No one however disputed the translation. We have some Japanese speaking people on this board. They haven't provided any correction either. I don't why you are assuming he was being positive when everything points to the opposite. Kamiya himself even confirms the sentence, but you will probably spin it like he doesn't understand. He hid a clear insult in Japanese and you want to somehow spin the usage of gaijin as something positive in an insult? Really?

In the translation "some" wasn't forgotten it was said in English and didn't need a translation.

yeah can't take it anymore. I read the first 6 pages and it went nowhere >_>

All I can say that if you had an inkling of an attention span and looked at the posts made by other people on Kami's twitter, his comments are justified. Some of us really are freaking stupid lols.

GAF, embrace the stupid. Embrace it in all of its glory.

There's been a lot of hate-boner stroking aimed towards Kamiya by people with fingers in their ears. But this has gone entirely too long.

In conclusion, Kamiya da best.

kotaku has a point. japanese developers have no reason not to support steam. they either don't put their games there or often have half assed ports with gfwl or very little graphics options or something equally ridiculous, and that does give the impression that they are clueless

although i didn't read the article, so i have no idea what it said besides the headline

Racist against Colombia? Now why would I be racist against myself?

I always suspected that a complete country gained awareness and started posting here. Now I know.

Joke post probably, but once again.

No, they really don't have a point. You can only say that "they have no reason not to support Steam" if you have zero understanding of the Japanese domestic market.

i'm sorry i don't keep up with all the developers who once manifested their intents of having their games on steam, air zombie. i hope you'll someday forgive me for my sins

bullshit. you're the one who has no idea what you're saying. the whole point of steam is that the games sell GLOBALLY

if they want to sell their games in japan, they already have 2 or 3 systems to do that

either way, it's their loss. if they don't want to support steam and sell their games, they can continue trying to appeal to shrinking markets instead
