high-res direct feed mgs4 screens

Much less impressive than the scans. Granted, they do seem to be blown up, but they're also direct-feed and at a resolution the PS3 supports.

In the same league as Gears of War, though in motion I'm sure that's where MGS4 will shine.

Much less impressive with these shots 8(. The game still looks great, just not mindblowing. Im sure the trailer will restore my faith. Im curious how this game will compare to the next splinter cell which is supposedly coming to the 360 (I would assume PS3 as well).

Like I said earlier, looks good nothing mind blowing or above and beyond what we;ve seen. I do like these shots better than the scans though since you can see some better details. The draw distance is kind of dissapointing though in these shots.

These have been obviously been blown up. You'd have to be blind not to notice. Looks most sexcellent, either way.

Whatever you want to believe I guess.

Likewise, bud.

I've already said in motion it will no doubt surpass anything we've seen of "nextgen" so far. But from screens, it's close.

Take the googles off.

Most of them are in 1080p. Dunno why that one is different...

Still, how many of us are viewing these on a 1920x1080 display? If you are viewing them on a smaller screen at full size, things will look jaggier. My laptop is doing 1680x1050, so it isn't too bad...but if someone is only using 1024x768 or something then, yikes, it will be really jaggy when blown up.

The same could be said for you... :lol

As someone else pointed out. Crappy textures also exist on the Ps3 (the tank) omgwtf?! This fanboyism on both sides is far passed annoying.

It looks great people, move on.

Well I'll probably catch some shit for this, but it looks to me like Otacon's face (or at least the beard area) is suffering from the same plastic man look we've seen in a lot of next-gen games

[Troll]I'm sorry, what's that sound? Oh, it's the sound of the Xbox 360 crashing into miserable failure. [/Troll]

Sorry, I just had to chime that in.

This looks really nice, I wonder (though I doubt it) if the Xbox 360 could pull that off?

Im almost certain it can, but im not an expert. I've seen games that look just as good :)

I wonder how Raiden will look like.

Gay as usual.

I hated them introducing him into MGS2 and taking me away from playing Snake.

These shots look good. Maybe not what I was expecting, but good nonetheless.

Head and shoulders above Xbox 360 though? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

That's a toughie.

Scaling them to 720p makes them look considerably better.

Btw, everybody jumping all over the hi-res screens needs to wakeup.
Unlike the Xbox 360 Launch games, this game is probably a year + away from launch.

Saw the shots HERE first and was actually pretty surprised at how poor the image quality is in most of the shots. This is really, really early, IMO. Still, from a technical perspective, this really doesn't look any better than anything shown for X360...unlike what a lot of the hyperactive Sony fans have been acting like... Can we start chanting PS2.5 now? ;P

Btw, resizing isnt helping much at all, I think these are real non overblown renders...

I dunno, the resized pic that striek posted looks awesome. In any case, let it be 1080p w/o AA, I'll be playing it downsampled anyway! :lol

Well, considering the fact that he's clearly suffering from some of form of skin disease causing his beard to grow in large lumps, I suppose it could just be another symptom of the same disease.

Still, this certainly takes the air out of the "the true next gen" chanting that's been going on since yesterday. I really want to see it in motion though, as I expect that's where this title will shine.

Over ten years ago I remember sitting in a room at a peecee developer watching the company's tech director show me their demo of spinning robots/tanks with 'teh shine' on them. Over a decade later and there are still people who are still going "OMFG look at teh shine" in games like Halo and GoW.

The stuff Metal Gear is doing is bleeding edge realtime skin and cloth modeling. Realistic skin is one of the most complicated things in CG to model. This Metal Gear stuff is amazing.

That looks awesome to me, way better than anything out there, or coming.

I tell ya...that looks awesome. Is that ingame or a movie you watch during the game? If I cant move that guy with the controller, not as impressive.

disclaimer.......this is Sony..fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me.

some how "shame on me" is usually the story when Sony is involved.

Characters (Snake) looks awsome! Nice use of textures and polys on them. But....

Them enviroments are very underwhelming. I hope no one has the guts to rag on PDZ's enviorments now. And GOW's enviroments are well beyond these.

Isn't Scaling 1080p to 720p sorta like 720p 2XAA?

Seems to me that 1080p 2x or 4x AA is not going to happen much at all this generation.

The scans made this game look so much better. Technically it doesn't look at all above the 360's best. Gears of War looks if anything, better. The art style is what makes this game look so great IMO.

I swear to crap, if you actually have the balls to bring up those PS2 tech demos or something... >:(

Just to give you something to chew on, non-interactive scenes can actually become quite a bit more intensive (depending on a lot of factors). Remember RSC2? 30 fps replays...60 fps gameplay. GT4? Mild slowdown and tearing on the occasion during replays...but not during gameplay.

If MGS4 is doing any of the advanced post processing that we're expecting, the cutscenes could end up being quite demanding on the machine.

I don't see why you are worried about a Kojima game, though. This isn't Sony and Kojima's team has NEVER let us down in regards to visuals. Not once.

I wouldn't expect 1080p 4x, maybe 2x, and I believe the kit they're using for all of this so far still has the underclocked Cell and no real RSX.

Well, there are enough of the uber-whining framerate whores out there that won't play MGS3 to the end because it's not 60fps like MGS2 was...though MGS1 wasn't :lol And there's a first time for everything.

i'm surprised people are criticizing the otacon model. stubble does catch the light sort of like that. of course he looks more plasticky than an actual person, but that's a persisting problem with cg. i can't think of a real time character model that's as good. it's clearly better than even the snake model.

But in those examples, the game looked better durring those "non-interactive scenes". You not suggesting the game will look worse in actual gameplay are you?

I am no expert on this but I was under the impression that the image might have been a clean jaggie free screenshot with atleast 4x FSAA and then overblown to 1080P to please SONY... This would introduce artifacts like jaggies, not only on sharp edges.... Undoing this effect would be resizing it to the initial resolution 720P if now that is the initial resolution. I did it and while it does look better, it didnt improve remarkably much at all.. wich is just weird IMO. And a 1080P image should have less jaggies than these shots even if it uses no FSAA at all.

Another idea is that the image was indeed 720P but with no FSAA thus there would be jaggies, and overblowing that would introduce even more jaggies.

If RE5 trialer was realtime, then IMO thats the best looking game i've seen this gen.

That, just like these, are 2007 at the earilest. I understand that these smoke a lot of what the 360 has shown. It's just that this game is so far away. Microsoft could do the same thing with a Halo 3 trailer and make us 360 fans do the same thing. Swoon and jack off at the screen. Will MGS4 look like this upon release? Hell yeah it will and I'll love it for that. However, MGS4 doesn't do to the 360 what MGS2 did to the Dreamcast.

I have no idea, but based on the rules of this gen, I'd say "yeah". Of course, with the high resolution and everything, perhaps they won't need to.

Look at the texture on the wall and tell me that's a next gen game.
Ha, you're right. I thought this was PS3, but thanks to that texture, I realize that this must actually be X36...just kidding, XBOX or PS2. :P
