1) This is a warzone - don't expect flowery colorsAngelus said:Looks pretty good. Though I hope that Kojima expands Metal Gear's color pallete for next gen. I'm abit tired of the grey and greens in the series.
Warzones are green?dark10x said:1) This is a warzone - don't expect flowery colors
I was referring to the outdoor shots. The "green" shots are indoors.[Reki] said:Warzones are green?
Pimpwerx said:If you're wondering if they are resized or not, just throw them into Photoshop and zoom in. 1080p native shots have a 1:1 pixel width. You'll see these are like 2:1, which means they've been blownup. You can see it if you look at a high-contrast area with a slightly off-axis line, like Otacon's collar. The stairsteps should be only a pixel wide, but you can see they're not. When you resize to 720p, you see they go down close to 1:1, and while still showing aliasing, the image quality is immensely improved. Just use logic. Have you ever seen a 1080p screen with that much aliasing? That's as much aliasing as you see in 480p shots, which shouldn't be nearly as evident at like 4x the resolution.
In case anyone thinks this is damage control, I'll just add some reference:
Ninja Theory took screens of Heavenly Sword at 1080p native. It has aliasing, but nowhere near what we see here:

OTOH, when Project Force was first shown, the first set of shots were released at 1080p, which clearly wasn't its native resolution. And it looked a jaggie mess like this as well. When resized to 720p, there was still aliasing, but nowhere near the first shots. Aliasing at 720p and especially 1080p shouldn't be this evident, which is the first giveaway. Just FYI. I'm not a photo editing pro, so correct me if I'm wrong.
TBH, even with the aliasing, this game destroys everything else I've seen, save for KZ3. Heavenly Sword just got bitchslapped IMO. My only beef is the weak textures on the tanks, and the aliasing on Snake's hair. The G70 has transparency AA, so I would like to see that fuzzy mess gone. PEACE.
Huh. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm too stupid to notice stuff like that on my own.Pimpwerx said:If you're wondering if they are resized or not, just throw them into Photoshop and zoom in. 1080p native shots have a 1:1 pixel width. And every XFan was so quick to shit on it....despite knowing they were blown up. Silly people.SolidSnakex said:

2) MGS3 was very colorful and had a large variety of palettes depending on the area
3) You don't need a rainbow of colors for every game
Get to the point. Are you calling Kojima and Co. liars re: these images?Norse said:Look, I like the metal gear games....and love the mega cutscenes. But these gaming companies that continue to show videos of the cutscenes in their games, and then tell the public that s "in-game" footage, need to be sued for false advertising.
You look at madden 360 video they show as a commercial. We know it wont look like that but joe consumer dosnt till he/she puts it in their console at home. Say its the intro movie and stop the lies is all I am asking.
I am ready for nexgen and knw the games will look great. But lets not show one thing and then deliver another.

Notice the bright outline of Solid's right arm. Is this evidence of photoshop-ing (was Solid just cut and pasted onto that backdrop), or is it just a side effect of Anti-Aliasing?SolidSnakex said:
...what are you talking about? Because if it's these shots not being representative of what real-time gameplay will look like (or better, as with the MGS2 trailer), you're incorrect.Norse said:Look, I like the metal gear games....and love the mega cutscenes. well, at least we know it will look better by the time it's out
It's a sideeffect that can occur with postprocessing effects where low-res(blurred) buffers are mixed in with the normal rendering. It's something that's particularly common in current gen games, though it's usually difficult to notice in motion.Notice the bright outline of Solid's right arm. It's a well-made teaser for the fans, but hardly a display of gameplay. People need to stop comparing apples to oranges.
Actually, it did play rather similarly to the ORIGINAL MGS2 trailer -and- the final game saw visual improvements.open_mouth_ said:Why does everyone else act like they've never seen one before? Did MGS2 play like a cinematic movie like the original trailer portrayed? Neither will this.

Kojima Productions, the Konami subsidiary headed up by Metal Gear Solid producer Hideo Kojima, has announced that its Tokyo Game Show showing for Metal Gear Solid 4 will consist of a trailer running on actual PS3 hardware. The site makes it clear that we won't be getting target rendered footage, but actual PS3-generated footage.
