Hillary Clinton publishing book about 2016 election in Sept titled "What Happened"

Did you sit out on voting in the election?

I did, and I don't regret it. Hillary's loss was baked into the cake the minute the DNC convention was over, even despite Trump's exceptional ability to shoot himself in the foot every other day.

The minute you start talking about how your political movement is the one that represents "the people" is the minute my eyes glaze over. Literally every political movement and party thinks they are the one that actually represents the people. But large populations rarely have broad political consensus. Like there's a reason why no democratic nation has a party that consistently gets 80%+ of the vote and firm power.

I'm referring to policies that benefit "the people" versus policies that benefit corporate shareholders, cartels, etc. Studies have shown that over 70% of policies enacted in the last 40 years have been against the will of the majority, but have benefited the wealthy few. THIS is what I mean by Bernie supporting policies that go against the oligarchs and their political puppets, and in favor of 90+% of Americans who are struggling these days.

To win an election, you need to be a good candidate that people support.

Rigging also helps.

Incoherent speeches work too as long as they make people happy for some reason. Policy is the last thing that's needed at this point. That's why I'm not mad at Democrats and at Clinton (and even not that mad at Bernie honestly). Politics is sort of shit and I'm just hoping that it will fix itself before next election (i.e. Trump scares people into being smarter). Asking Democrats to do something similar to what Republicans do is a lost cause in my view...

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Trump was the best candidate ever. Did you not see all the red on that map? What a day of historicness!

Now just imagine how good Hillary was.

What is your fucking point dude besides to troll?

Hillary and Trump were both bad candidates fine Trump was still much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much worse

Why spend so much time shitting on a bad candidate for losing by not being better than the candidate who won by being worse?

Not if you define 'bad candidate' as 'candidate who loses the election' he isn't.

As I said in my edit, Why spend so much time shitting on a bad candidate for losing by not being better than the candidate who won by being worse?

I just don't get it. Maybe I'm dumb.

Trump is much worse than Hilary, objectively, and he won! So why are we shitting on Hilary for not being better?

To share my overall thoughts as to me a movie would probably reinact part of the campaign or want to involve the WH/officials. Why are you getting so bogged down on hypotheticals about a movie? Is it because I thought it was a terrible idea? If so just say that. I still think it's a terrible idea to create a movie about losing a political campaign and putting it on the big screens like it's some historical masterpiece to let your kids see a campaign that wasn't successful. As I said, it would just be likely to damage the Dems public image and give a ton of fodder for the opposition to mock.

Who else has gotten Hollywood involved to make a movie about a campaign loss? I can't think of anyone. I don't even think Obama got a movie after making history? (other than what were probably straight to TV documentaries) Then again I can't even think of anyone who has had a book written about a loss, just autobiographies that may include paragraphs about campaigns. As you'll likely say as a private citizen she can create a book on whatever she wants, and yes, that's true and fine, what I said about that is in my earlier posts. The book is likely to reignite 2016 all over again at the end of 2017 and probably into 2018 with arguing, bickering and so on. I personally think it's bad timing as no, it's not Hillary's time to be back in the spotlight. Dems need a party refocus and fresh candidate plans, not to be bogged down with 2016 bickering again. An autobiography nearer 2020 when Dems aren't in rubble or better yet when Republicans are out of power? Go wild. A year later during turmoil, eh, you're going to get criticism for your timing Hillary.

It's not happening and if it did it would be her so I was confused why you started talking about in even hypotheticals the Democratic Party greenlighting it.

One of Hillary Clinton's defining characteristics is being held to a higher standard than male equivalents, without fail.

As long as you remember that simple fact about her, everything will make sense.

trump didn’t need to be a good candidate to win because he didn’t win, hillary lost

had hillary won the exact same number of american’s votes or even fewer, but just had a semblance of strategy where it mattered, she would be president

I hope this will be an honest, upfront, and downright brutal look at the many flaws in her campaign that allowed an idiot like Captain Orange to beat her in what should've been an unlosable election.

I really hope it won't just be page after page of blaming absolutely everyone and everything but herself.

If anybody who ran this time runs again in 2020, we're in trouble.

Well, Kasich is clearly eyeing a Republican primary challenge, and the floodgates will be open if Pence is sitting president by 2019.

How many Senators and Governors did Trump beat this year? He's demonstrably not a terrible candidate.

Hillary spent way too much time generating funds that ultimately didn't matter.

I not sure how releasing a book so close to profit from the event is going to endear me to the candidate.

I actively dislike Bernie in some important ways but I do not blame him for her loss. I blame him for some other things, but the 2016 election specifically no I think any influence he had is dwarfed by about eight other things

Ah yes the cruel misogyny of thinking that Hillary Clinton lost an election. How dare we hold her up to the higher standard of reality.

Actually Hillary did win, she's the president, it's just all the sexist Bernie bros in this thread pretending like Trump beat her. Sexism!

All the things Hillary gets criticized for and Get said as the reasons why she lost Trump does and 100 times worse and he won. That is the higher standard she is held to.

Fuck right off with this garbage. Did people pile on to Gore, Mondale, Kerry, McCain, Romney remotely this much?

No, they didn't. And it isn't even fucking close.

Well she would definitely be better than Trump, sure.

If we never run another candidate like Hillary again that would be fantastic.

Bernie should have completely crushed her if not for the DNC treating the primaries like Hillary's coronation ceremony.

On Hillary's health and DNC/HRC collusion... you are simple google searches away that the rest of the world has seen (but magically you haven't). On issues like the Clinton Foundation being a global bribery slush fund, you can start by reading people like charlesortel.com/, or you can read up about their scam in Haiti, including fixing the 2010 election in favor of Haiti's Donald Trump, Michelle Martelly.

The Clintons are macabre power players who are too comfortable hoarding cash for political favors. They are endemic with what is absolutely wrong with US imperialism, and they are the figureheads for the corporate take-over in the 1980's of the Democrat party.

Don't do that. Don't make an excessive claim and then tell me I'm one google search away. Show me the evidence that Hillary's health was crumbling as you put it and show me how the DNC/HRC colluded to shut down Bernie. I want to see the massive evidence that the rest of the world has seen.

In terms of the Haitian election, as the article you linked shows and states, it was they the United States not some cabal of the Clinton's. The Hatian earthquake and disaster relief should have been handled much better from all sides. It was a clusterfuck but I don't get why you are singling out the Clinton foundation, do you consider the Red Cross a massive scam?

You're the one saying that the answer to "why do people say Hillary was a bad candidate" is "sexism" instead of "because she lost an election."

I don't know if the dudes you mentioned got shit on after their losses. But I kind of doubt that people were going around talking about how they were actually really good candidates who just happened to lose.

Also, again, I'm not positive on this but did any of those people announce books about their losing campaigns eight months after the fact?

Specifically, what did the DNC do?

Where did I say that, or something like that?

And, please, point me to all of the NeoGAF threads piling on Kerry for losing. I'd love to see them, as intriguing historical archives.

Yeah, I mean, this is the problem with this argument, to my mind. Hillary was like 100,000 votes away from winning. Elections that close can turn on, like, local weather. If a rainstorm could turn her from a bad candidate to a good candidate, it seems like not that useful a term.

I feel like when people call Hillary a bad candidate for losing they're benchmarking to a hypothetical result in which she should've won a landslide. Presumably because Trump is incredibly bad! And I'm obviously sympathetic to that, and as I said I do think Hillary had critical weaknesses. But it's not super clear to me that the primary factor that prevented that landslide was Hillary. I think there are a lot of important factors getting lost in that analysis.

Yes! That's what a political candidacy is! It's an attempt to get elected! If you don't get elected, someone else was better at being a candidate than you!
