Hitman 3 PC Analysis : PS5/Series X Comparisons

Microsoft did an interview with IOI just because this game runs better on SeriesX 😁

Alex sounds like a super noob. Who the hell doesn't disable Motion Blur when its optional and can be deactivated?

People who like smoothness brought on by per object motion blur?
My GPU isnt strong enough to render everything at 1440p165fps, so under 100fps per object motionblur smooths everything right the fuck up.
I hate camera motion blur cept in racing games.

Hi, Joe Miller.

Yeah, I bet MS ONLY has dev interviews related to games that perform better on their console. I bet they have never once done a spotlight on anything that performed better on any PlayStation, ever.

Shame on them! Fire Phil! FIRE PHIL!!!!

So basically, the shared memory bandwidth is the bottleneck here. The 448 GBps bandwidth is not allowing for better particle effects which means we are gonna be stuck with low quality particle settings for the rest of the gen.

It's extremely disappointing to say the least. I had really hoped that the PS5 wouldve been in the 500 GBps range for this very reason. Whats the point of a powerful GPU when you are gonna bottleneck it with lower ram bandwidth. its basically the PS4 Pro situation all over again. things are gonna get far worse as next gen particle heavy games come along.
thats possible but not neceserly true as it's based on one scene, we didn't see comparison in mendoza level with sniper rifle zooming, maybe 5700xt losing frames there where ps5 is 60fps also it's first game when ps5 losing to 5700xt and ps5 gpu also shared bandwidth with cpu in other titles ;)

Why? It's made to hide low framerate.

I also like to be drunk but I prefer to be sober in my computer games.
No.

I love the per object variant more so than camera MB. If implemented well with very high sample count, it can give that CG-look to the scenes, that's why.

A lot of people were in denial about this.

True, a lot of people were in denial about the fact that in AC:V, AMD performs significantly better than Nvidia, and SonyGAF thought for a second that the Holy Cerny Sauce made a 2080S out of a PS5 via some miracle tier stuff. Then we saw Watch Dogs and now Hitman 3, where the PS5 is barely reaching 2060S levels of performance :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Interesting...

Back in the summer, after the spec reveals, a lot of people compared these consoles' GPU to a 5700 XT. I guess it's basically a 5700 XT+, with the + being higher clock and extra RDNA 2 features? I would have liked to see both consoles at least be on par with a 2070 Super, but I guess that could vary game to game as well (didn't PS5 beat a 2080 in Valhalla?).
it was similar to 2080 but then again a 5700xt was even faster than a 2080 in AC Valhalla

One can't say it runs better on Xbox because the PS5 can run 46% better than XSX which is significant. But it definitely runs with a higher resolution on Xbox.

As Alex points out, this game and Watch Dogs are the only instances where we have precise settings for consoles directly from the developer. Theres no guess work involved nor subjective involvement for one vendor or another. These 2 games paint a vanilla 2070 ballpark performance for the ps5. And the settings used are low, medium and turned off other than textures. It seems the need for higher resolutions is strangling the performance of these machines right from the get go.
Missed that, makes this comparison brutal to be honest, unless it's just a bad console port. Consoles needs more settings. I just googled and saw that my 1080ti from 2017 can run this game on ultra settings at 148fps... in 1080p

One scene. There is no denying, only the most fierce console warriors would said that the PS5 is the better version. As it is right now and having both consoles I would go for the XSX version although Hitman is not for me.

Looking at the latest Hitman 3 PC Analysis appears the game takes advantage of VRS on PC l wonder if the Series X is using this, which helps it allow it to hit 4k?

Apparently the PS5 does not support VRS.

As far as I know and read and watched , no VRS on Xbox console versions yet.

It's more than one scene (in the cutscenes too) and I actually agree with you, Hitman 3 is better on XSX (because the framerate drops are rare overall). But the game runs better on PS5 and I don't even know why it's up to debate.

In all the cases XSX has framerate drops, PS5 runs the same scene quite better. From like ~20% (in the cutscene used by DF) to 46% (during gameplay).

You can't say it runs better because it's running in a lower resolution with lower shadow resolution. The only way you can say it runs better if all settings were equal.

Its like saying a Honda Civic beating a Ferrari in a race because the Ferrari was towing a camper ... is faster. Lol

GTX 970 ~20% faster at 1080p, identical settings. Xbox Series S should be doing a bit better than that GPU, IMHO.

Settings used:
1920x1080
LOD: Medium
Texture: High
Texture Filter: 8x
SSAO: Minimum
Shadow: Low
Mirror Reflection: Medium
SSR: Medium
Motion Blur: Off
Simulation: Best (Series S uses "Base")
I think it's more appropriate to post this here in the PC thread.

I got removed from the other thread haha. Surprised it wasn't a temp ban to be honest. Anyway I've pointed out a bunch of times over there that any PC basically runs the flowers better then Xbox. A first gen ryzen with a rx580 doesn't get those massive drops. The opening of the level literally has the lowest fps of the entire map. If it's not a bug and hardware related io should of dropped the res for this one map.

Interesting. 🤔 What if the CPU is eating up some of that 224 GB/s portion on Series S? Then again the GTX 970 here is running at stock speeds. So the 3.5 GB segment is getting an even lower 196 GB/s of bandwidth.

Neogaf has plenty of the warriors you were talking about. 😏

Someone mentioned DX draw call issue , but again it doesn't seem to be an issue on much lower end PC hardware.

Does not mean that it's like that on console, for example AF 16x on PC is standard for 20 years and on consoles we are getting AF 8x by now. There are unique bandwidth constraints, also 500USD vs 1000USD+

Reminds me of this:

Even the cheaper 6900XT costs more than the three consoles combined.

But still, something not right with this.

No you can compare just like in you r Ferrari scenario, you just have to include all the facts. I dont think ive seen anyone post the fps comparison yet without implying the res diff or straight up saying it.

It's a major win for XBOX and IMO first REAL difference that makes one version significantly better. The reasons might be multiple but don't forget that this is the difference that most expected by looking at consoles specs. Still it is mostly last-gen game so not much of a deal. But don't forget the PS3 situations - when tools matured and devs got some experiance the games started to look amazing.

I still think PS5 and XBOX have a lot of power in them that has not been yet unleashed.

Now it's getting interesting - I am curious in performance in Resident Evil 8 on XBOX and PS5. That's gonna be next big title that will push the consoles... The question is how RE:Engine is capable of use more unusual PS5 specs - I think Capcom and Sony are working close together (Maiden demo) and hope for some optimization.. If that's not the case I think we will se better results on XBOX.
On paper it's a pretty big difference, you wouldn't notice the difference if DF didnt tell you about them though. This isn't 720p vs 1080p, 1800-4k isn't really noticeable when playing a game.
