Hitman: Absolution |OT| Police do not suspect Blood Money is involved.

Did this game show up in any black friday deals? I kind of figured it's not simply because it's coming out the same week. I'm kind of adverse to paying full price for games since most of them will be cheaper in only a few weeks.

If you want it on PC, you can pre-order it for less than $30

The comments about the disguise system is the first thing that has me legit concerned. I wanted something a little more intense than Blood Money's non-difficulty but I expected some leeway to walk around as I see fit when wearing the proper disguise.

Well, now at least I'm not surprised as to why you were so offensive at start.
Look like I said, I know the style isn't for everyone. Though in this day and age where so many reviews are typical and by the books, this style seems to get me more noticed in youtube land and stick out then just..."hey... its a game with this... boring talk, etc" So yeah I have my reasons.

I enjoyed it. Reminded me if Aussie gamer doing blood money walkthroughs.

question about the level after you reach hope.

]did anyone do the shooting challenge? I decided to sneak into the old man's office and out him to sleep / steal the notebook and key. how differently does it play out if you do the shooting challenge?

Its no way near as bad as Conviction IMO. Personally if we're seeing this kinda as a relaunch of the IP then it's on par with the original hitman IMO. In that it's very very flawed.

The sequel may be back to basics let's hope so anyway. Someone in Square and IO has to be reading the feedback on this.

Does anyone with the game know if there's a point to collecting evidence yet? I don't think CCTV returned from Blood Money..

I usually love GT reviews, but this one seems a bit hasty. Particularly the bit where he gripes that the game subtracts points for taking out enemies that aren't your target. And when he says it's "tedious" to play the game quietly. Seems like he's picking the wrong things to take issue with. On the other side of the coin, IGN, which can often be the most suspect reviews, has a pretty good review and it makes a lot of sense. It seems to be that the places scoring it lowest are judging it as a successor to Blood Money and not scoring the game on it's own merits, particularly RPS and PC Gamer.

I'm eager to see what Giant Bomb has to say about it.

Not really. If anything sounds like Codename 47.
Which was bad.

A couple things I've noticed from videos that really bother me are when an alert happens (like if you throw a wrench), the screen gets fuzzy and you get a dramatic noise. Also, the center of screen notoriety warning is pretty annoying as it doesn't really matter if there is a small, medium or large peak as long as it doesn't turn red.

What do people think of the new disguise system?
Technically it makes more sense than how disguises have been handled in BM (and older Hitmans) traditionally - a strange bald dude suddenly appears wearing your friends clothes (who has now vanished) - the guards are understandably a bit miffed, until you consider disguises which feature a mask of some sort still arouse suspicion within 1.5 seconds (at least on expert mode). You pretty much don the disguise, check the coast is clear then move from cover to cover trying to avoid the enemy line of sight. It is more unforgiving than previous games and combined with the new cover-based line of sight for enemies and smaller levels has a net effect of occasionally making you feel rail-roaded through some levels in a particular fashion, essentially restricting how far you can go off the beaten path so to speak (though this is dependant on the individual level setup). I expect a purist run would be an absolute b**** since some sections rely on instinct stealth + disguise to cross open areas with little cover and many enemies. Overall, its... different and you can see the influences from other games that are eroding the traditional Hitman approach, but that was (for me) to be expected somewhat due to the large gap between BM and this.

As a side note, enemies are all now highly susceptible to audible distractions of your own making, its a fairly painless process to empty a room of enemies by throwing an object to lure them out one by one, typically only one guy will come to check it out.

This comment overall summarises my feelings as well. It feels like most of the systems are there in the game but it just doesn't pull it off in a cohesive manner, very much a Codename 47 situation. The potential is there to bring back the missing elements from the older titles and integrate them into the new framework, though I highly doubt this will happen as the industry leans towards continuous streamlining nowadays. It could have been a lot worse, but the disappointment isn't lost on me either. Despite all that I am enjoying the game so far (just hit the Saints section of the game), decent length too.

I just hope they drop the rogue agent bullshit and have him back as someone who kills for money, simple as.

Well, I did. It's nice. Makes you learn how to properly use that slowmo-function.
It's no hassle and you basically get the guns back for free.

WTF is up with gametrailers!!! review score: 6,9 for hitman??

FUCK you gametrailers

Have you read this thread?

To anyone who has completed the game, is KOCT the only level without forced checkpoints/segmentation?

No but there ain't many.

Ok I've just finished it on normal difficulty and I haven't played contracts yet. Overall it's a decent action stealth title and if that's all you're looking for I think you'll have a good time (some misgivings about the disguise system aside, which is fucking broken!). As a hitman game as has been said a million times in this thread it ain't one. Most levels focus more on navigating a level undetected and maybe taking a target down along the way rather than giving you an open sandbox. The few sandbox levels there are aren't as open as those in BM I'd say either.

Some outright negatives I will say:

-As has been mentioned before the disguise/instinct system is just totally broken. I don't know how you could get through this game on purist tbh.

-The checkpoint system, I think your mileage will vary on this point though. I know some people play hitman with no saves but I always did play it with the limited saves option, certainly to begin with. This game saves at checkpoints after clearing sections, which is fine, but also at player activated checkpoints found in the world, these are a pain.
I have no idea why IOI didn't at least indicate these on the radar; there where levels where I played through without any checkpoints because I couldn't find any. Couple this with the broken disguise AI and I had an infuriating time on some levels.

TLDR: It's a decent game and basically a stealthier version of Conviction, would probably make for a better splinter cell game than conviction does (apart from the disguise system) but it certainly ain't hitman.

Alright, so it seems pretty clear now that this game shits all over the Hitman franchise. Words cannot convey how disappointing that is, given how long I've waited for the next entry in the series.

I really hope that IO pays attention to the criticisms so that maybe this series can be salvaged. Ugh.

Square-Enix Montreal is making the next game, and they want to change stuff about the franchise. You better hope they change things for the better.
