HITMAN |Beta Thread| The original assassin. [PS4+PC]

not sure if I like the sound of this. So if we're taking the Beta as an episode (as an example), would that mean 1 location would be the docks level and another location would be the hangar? Or would that be one location?

Beta is probably a bad example because of how limited it is. I'll use the Paris level to illustrate:

The first mission 'Showstopper' takes place during a fashion show. The majority of the NPCs are guards, guests, caterers and people working in/on the show, and the entire building plus its grounds are available for the player to explore.

The second mission, from what they've implied, will use the same map space as mission 1, but will not be set during a fashion show. Maybe it will be set when the building is open to the public as an art gallery, so the NPCs would mainly be gallery guards, guests, tour guides etc. That would change the 'rules' of the level (enemy alertness, trespass zones etc.). Maybe it will be set post-Showstopper, where the police have taken over the building and a forensic crew has moved in, making pretty much every room off-limits for the player without a disguise.

That's just my guess. We don't actually know what they've got planned for these 'alternate' missions, but given that contracts mode is literally just making a new target out of existing models in a given level I doubt they'd advertise something as basic as that as a 'second' mission.

That makes a lot more sense. thanks! Sounds interesting, although I'm not sure if I like it all that much. Episodes are $15 a pop right?

I have no idea why I should be hyped for this game but Blood Money is one of my GOTYAY...

Any reason why you're excited for this?

First episode is $15, subsequent ones are $10.

They've been ignoring a lot of questions regarding how levels will be split, but I think it's safe to say they will be reused due to how large Paris and Sapienza are.

It's like the younger, less talented brother that's trying to carry out the family legacy with a dad that's limiting his potential by not believing in him (SE)

Chaos Theory introduced me to the stealth genre, but it was Hitman Blood Money that made me a fan of the genre. Absolution was a decent stealth game, but not the Hitman game I had been waiting years for. This game looks like a real follow-up and evolution of Blood Money that I wanted, with all of the control improvements that made Absolution fun to play.

Damn I was gonna preorder this then read the beta ended already.

PS4 beta ended already, but PC beta is this coming weekend.

Well, most. I miss Point Shooting. :(

I actually didn't like point shooting. Well at least how it was done in Absolution. SC Blacklist did the mechanic in a much more fluid, less jarring style.

I can definitely agree there. I wanted to say the ideal version was Mark & Execute like in SC: Conviction, but Blacklist is less of a dirty word around here :)

Regardless, some sort of way to pull off the "slo-mo, bullet time, kill all the people" move is sorely missed.

Anyone else a bit concerned how bad the AI and general performance was in the beta? I know it was a beta but it isn't that far from the release date and the game has already been delayed 2 times. I am just worried that it will launch in a really bad state and full of bugs... particularly cause it is digitally only for this year,

I'm not really concerned by the technical issues. It's a beta after all.

I'm much more concerned by some issues, that seem very costful to fix:

- Events triggered by 47's presence instead of being timed is a major issue as the game is more "scripted" and doesn't encourage passive observation as it should
- AI has been complexified (more NPC with unique AI) but not improved (did you try to shoot at the crowd or detonate a bomb? Reactions do not make sense)
- NPC icon option can be disabled but then the game is not playable (how to know who is an enforcer?) => edit: ok for this one, I can live with the white dot over head
- Music is not present enough and not really inspired (in Blood Money it was really awesome)

Issues that seem easier to fix:

- Challenges/Feats are huge spoilers!!!!! => I like having incentive to keep playing but I would be fine with just general titles (use poison, or, find the accident), I hope there will be an option to remove the pictures at least
- Opportunities marker on the map should go if the option is set to Off
- No mission rating?!!! I hope it's just for the prologue/beta otherwise it's a must fix, top priority
- Missing animations (open door, holster gun, etc.)

Apart from that I think the game is still very fun. Mostly because it's once again an assassination game with the sandbox freedom we wanted back and the disguise system has been completely fixed.
So I'm keeping my preorder. Thought it deserved to be mentioned.

The only thing I truly disliked about the beta is that running (or crouch running) doesn't make people suspicious, so you can run to your heart's content as long as you don't end up bumping into a guy with a circle above his head. So yeah, I'm hoping the AI changes on higher difficulties.

This is a major turn off for me as well. Tracking your target's movements and knowing that they're going about their business regardless of whether you're there or not makes all the difference in creating a game space vs a living environment. I hope that it's fixed for release, but I have my doubts. That said, I played enough during the weekend (and it still functions offline, woot!) to justify keeping my pre-order. A far superior experience to Absolution, even in beta, and I'm really looking forward to the release.

Couldn't you run to your heart's content in Blood Money? They should keep it that way because I just started playing Hitman: Contracts and it is kicking my ass to always have to walk everywhere when in disguises unless I want to be shot to oblivion.

I hope that's a tutorial feature with the triggered events

No that's a complaint I read in some of the previews, so it's also in the Paris level.
It seems to be part of the game design.

I don't see how they can "fix" that easily as it's basically a redesign of an important game mechanic with impacts on everything else.

Surely at some point during the design phase someone thought "it's boring to have to wait in a closet for 5 minutes for the target to appear, let's improve that".
Which led to the current behaviour.

that is really a shame then, because in past games, the movements of all persons of interests in the level usually matched up with the fastest/most effective way for 47 to get there. so you would never have to wait too long for patrolling guards for isntance, and at the same time, you knew you are doing it "right".

It was better than the disguise system in Hitman 2, where you get shot to oblivion just by looking in the general direction of an enemy from 50 feet away whilst wearing a disguise.

What I noticed during beta is that some events are triggered by 47's presence, but not all. The big one that was dependent on presence was conversations, which would trigger when you got within earshot, and then guards (or in this case, mechanics) would go on their merry way.

If you wanted the patrol pattern of
the KGB officer
though, it was independent of where you were. He starts the level
heading into the Commandante office to talk to the target, then goes to the bathroom, then heads to the radio room, then patrols around
and I think he might reset but I'm not sure. I do know that this patrol pattern happens no matter where you are.
Mr. Norfolk
's pattern is similar. You don't have to get near him for him to
talk to the barkeep and get escorted to see Ritter, and then go meet in his room.

I think it's a pretty decent mix of patrols that are and are not dependent on 47's location.

Anyone on Steam preload it yet? It's supposed to go live today, but the beta isn't even in my inventory yet.

Edit: It popped up in my Library the moment after I posted this. Currently pre-loading.

Has anyone found the PC CE anywhere but Square Enix store? Their shipping prices are terrible. Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop are all Xbox and PS4 only

Having played the Alpha (Paris level), it does indeed seem to be a mix. A few number of opportunities to get into some specific places seem to be scripted and activated when you go there, while certain objective-related characters and target seem to have a schedule of their own. I might be wrong on this since I didn't test all of it throughously, but this was the impression it left on me at least.
