She looks as bored as the potential player.

Should deduct 4 points just for that dogshit game name alone.

"Unknown 9 Awakening", what the fuck were they thinking.

Not surprising, the trailer looked really bland.
Reminded me of those lower quality AA games we got during the Ps3/360 era (you know the stuff like Dark Void, Never Dead, Inversion and stuff like that)

I kinda miss when a mid game was just a mid game. Despite personal beefs some have with certain elements, the devs just didn't have the tech know how or imagination to come up with a better AA. I'll at least give them credit for trying to fill that hole for that market when people have been asking for more.
You dont need "good tech" to make great games, this year proved that with many great games came out despite not having highest "tech".

Flintlock had an all-time peak of 648 simultaneous players. Let's see how Unknown 9 fares during its first weekend.

I predict a bomb. If good AA games like Banishers don't sell, I can't see this selling either. I actually have a huge soft spot for AA games with a bit of jank, so overall it sucks that a lot of gamers only care for big AAA titles.

Hmm, well, this looks like it's got a lower launch player count than Concord. Now, it's a different kind of game, and it might pick up an audience over time, but that doesn't bode well.

Here's the problem for developers that seem to want to eschew games with sexy or badass looking protagonists: how do you plan to draw players in? If your protagonist or art style is eye-catching or "cool" in one way or another it'll probably help to get people to look at your game, and that will translate into at least some sales. On the other hand, if your game looks kind of drab and your main character looks like Blandy McBlandpants, why is anyone going to look at it for long enough to even consider that the game might be decent? This is a probably a bigger problem with AA games like this as they won't have the marketing budgets.

That being said, this had books and a comic and still no-one's heard of it, so maybe giving this developer a bigger marketing budget wouldn't have been a good idea. It's honestly amazing how little interest I've seen anywhere for it.

Here is the thing lot of people shit on FROM and Atlus for not using "tech" on greater level and yet no one can deny they make fantastic games.
My point from my original post was the "know how" for the tech. Obviously there are studios that can do a lot with less, but that's because they have skill and knowledge. Pretty sure this was a team making their first game. They just aren't at that level. Not an excuse, just the reality of it.

I don't really understand how this franchise got this far

The very first Unknown game, titled simply "Unknown Soldier", was kind of a generic WWII CoD-clone shooter in the PS360 days. It did alright but had a lower budget

After that they had kind of a weird series of games with different settings. Unknown 2: Alien Menace was a sci-fi shooter, Unknown 3: Vietnam went back to a more realistic setting, and Unknown 4: Cyberspace had a cool Ghost in the Shell vibe

The franchise switched to a third person view with Unknown 5: Rome and marked the start of the God of War clone era, it was followed by Unknown 6: Samurai and Unknown 7: Zulu

At this point, something changed. I want to say maybe it was Sweet Baby Inc but Unknown 8: Redemption was the first one to star a female protag and it returned to a vaguely modern setting. However it was still fundamentally kind of a God of War clone, I want to say it was a lot like Heavenly Sword

I don't know how this franchise got to 9 entries but at some point somebody needs to say that maybe the franchise should be laid to rest like Tomb Raider

It was envisioned as this transmedia universe called 'Unknown 9 Storyworld' with games, podcasts, books, comics and there's a newsletter you can sign up for on the BN website. Presumably they wanted to make movies too, maybe get an episode on Secret Level.

Looks like they might have been a little bit too ambitious, that sort of stuff should happen organically. Especially if you kneecap it right out of the gate with Blandy McBlandpants.

Thanks for the quick rundown, nobody seems to know or care about this game's existence. Interesting how it bounced between so many settings. And your username is perfectly appropriate.

Edit: ok after trying to actually find some of this info Im guessing you pulled it out of your ass lmao, well done

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Why is the colour of the woman relevant to wanting the game to fail? It’s just a generic game no one’s even heard of.

Because it's obvious that this particular creative decision was made to support the "agenda", as it were, and brings the usual baggage with it. Which is why the main character is also ugly, and based on early impressions, everything related to the story is shit.

If it was just a female character but the design wasn't complete trash, nobody would care. But it has all the telltale signs of diversity consultants' usual horse shit.

Theres still time to preorder so you can get these awesome costumes + hairstyles.

UGLY as sin

Why the fuck the wokies are so insistent on fuck ugly characters?!?

Anyway, go woke go broke Bamco!!

This will teach them a lesson to stay the fuck away from Western developers and their toxic woke/DEI bullshit. Square Enix is learning their lessons, now it’s time for Bamco

They sure are handsome ladies. Look at those jaw lines, that's how you know how little estrogen is present!

I wonder if they are going to blame this on Incel Gamers.
It would be nice if we could just talk about games without people constantly pushing agendas. Please, let’s keep politics out of a gaming forum, or at least move it to the appropriate off-topic section.
Yes, I understand that many of you feel like you're just reacting to the woke crowd and their agenda, and that without their actions, you wouldn’t feel compelled to respond in kind…
…but seriously, guys. Just because some people push their ideology to extremes doesn't give you a free pass to act just as irrationally. Let's rise above it and use a bit of common sense. 🙂

When wokism took over a vast number of games you can't then expect people to overlook it as if it's not there 🤷‍♂️

This forum was for gaming, gaming in a vast number of scenes has been hijacked

I agree, it's boring. But it's there to begin with. If the actual publishers and developers gave themselves an enema from activism I'm pretty sure the conversation would go back to the other boring subjects folks would deem necessary

It's a sad state of affairs. But no true gamer wanted any of this guff.

Mate, calm down. It was a joke.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Bamco acquired this studio in 2020 especially for this franchise.

So they're about to lose at least 200 millions on this debacle (studio purchase + 4yrs development cost)

Oof. That shit didn't work for Capcom, don't know how they'd expect to work for them.

So weird that Bamco would buy this no name team. Elden Ring is now Bamco’s war chest for these adventures I guess.

The game is now at a 25% user score on Steam.
This will go down as one of the worst games of 2024. And one of it's biggest flops.
I love that these big companies are wasting hundreds of millions of dollars to find out that these political activists not only don't know how to make good games, but they also don't buy them.

The game looks absolutely like shit and I know people love to accuse everything of PS3 graphics but man this one looks really old, from that era.

But I still believe that the title which I consider THE WORST VIDEOGAME TITLE ever, is the main culprit. Even worse than immortals of aveum.

At least we have to admire their consistency of making a shit game, in every aspect. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
