HITMAN |OT| Blood Monthly

Haven't touched the game since Marrakesh I guess but I was surprised yesterday that the game UI and menu got polished and snappier. It's such an awesome game.

And been waiting for the soundtrack since ages, and finally I got an email to download the OST and a documentary :)

After 30 hours I've got SASO on each level, which is the last thing I do when I "complete" it. Not got mastery on all levels - but the lowest level I have is 16 so I've played each one a fair whack.

My ranking of the levels

1. Sapienza (one of the greatest game levels of all-time, could almost be its own game its so dense. The benchmark I doubt they'll top.)
2. Bangkok
3. Marrakesh
4. Colarado
5. Hokkaido (Pretty dull after you do most of the opportunities, don't like the door system)
6. Paris (I'm surprised people love this level - plain design and boring objectives, a bad level)

There's still more I want to do. It will definitely tide me over until season 2.

I'm amazed this average at best series has finally upped its game to this level of quality.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
some of the professional stuff are kinda annoying though

like some areas have guards for the sake of having them

It had always had potential but was clunky at very best. This is the first great game in the series.

Hitman 2 and Blood Money were fun but not great by any means.

This is the game they've been wanting to make the entire time it feels like.

To people complaining about lack of saves....that's the way pro mode has always been in hitman. Just be glad you don't have to collect all your gear/suit on exit to be able to get a SA like in previous games.

Is this game easy to get into? I'm sure I read somewhere on 'Gaf to watch videos on YouTube to get an idea on how to play.

I'm getting a little tired of Yakuza 0 and fancy a change.

I'd say the game is pretty easy to get into. The game has a small tutorial area to key you in on what to expect from the systems & AI, there are quite a few HUD options you can enable/disable to change the difficulty of the game and really the only way to fail a mission is to die.

The game is designed around perfecting the levels rather than perfecting the stage on the first try and moving on.

I can kinda see where he's coming from. From HM2 to Contracts to Blood Money, it definitely felt like they were trying to get closer to the game they wanted to make.

Where I disagree entirely is thinking that they didn't hit that point until Season 1.

I think that while HM2 is good, BM was great, and Contracts was fantastic and didn't get the praise it deserved at the time due to remaking the C47 levels, but wasn't mechanically as sound as the game BM ended up being.

I mean if you want to measure how clunky a game is as its metric for whether a game is great or not, MGS4 shouldn't have won GOTY on GAF twice, but I guess that's another conversation entirely.

MGS4 is genuinely my most hated game of all-time, so I'm consistent brother!

I'd love to see Hitman 2 remade with these mechanics. Some great levels. The first one is very similar to Sapienza, actually.

If your posts were a level it'd be Paris.

Quoi?

Whilst I firmly believe Contracts and BM are genuine classics, regardless of their 'clunkiness' (which is still somewhat present); Hitman 2016 is, for all intents and purposes, a modern Blood Money writ large. The formula really hasn't changed all that much.

Super sick diss bro.

Haha, I hear you. Somehow I made those controls work and went through the game twice, but don't ask me to do it a third time.

I feel like we've gotten a lot of spiritual successors to a lot of the classic hitman levels across the series while still getting some new stuff. We got the Traditions of the Trade level in Bangkok, we got a new take on Anathema with Sapienza, and we got a new version of Invitation to a Party with Paris. The stuff I'd love to see but never ever will is remakes of Contracts levels. Give us a HM2016 version of the Meat King's Party or the Lee Hong Assassination.

So Landslide was pretty easy. Three minutes, suit only, ballistics kill. Stashed the sniper rifle in the ICA safe house, snuck in, K/O'd the guys outside, and sniped the target from the roof. 3/5 stars, though, will attempt to master it later.

I replayed a few levels of Contracts a while ago and thought the same thing. Maybe not a straight up remake, but a super crazy level inspired by the Meat King's Party or Blood Money's A Dance with the Devil would be my dream for Season 2.

Also the meat hook would make a great alternative for the fibre wire.

I just did that one tonight and was never even caught in the enforcer's vision cone for a second. Just move fully behind her before moving sideways behind the bar.
I was blending in at the bar. You have to do a short cutscene to make the drink, then you're left standing there, not blended in, meaning you'll get spotted.

Had a bodyguard disguise, walked up behind the second bodyguard in the Sheikh's room, "hey wait a minute", and he quickly turned around. I'm assuming that's a bug. If not, that's just terrible design.

If we're going to bring back an old level for funsies, I think A House of Cards could be interesting.

I felt that was a very light mission from Blood Money, considering the location. There were more people in Paris than in that casino!

Can anyone tell me if there is a situation in the new bonus episode where the hippy dances like in the trailer?

I just went inside his apartment and there he was, doing that dance.

I did the exact same thing and the vision cone indicator did not come up before or after blending in. I tried it twice and it played out exactly the same both times.

We must be doing something differently, I'm thinking.

I just waited for the enforcer behind the bar to turn around, mixed and poisoned the drink then went to wait in the bathroom.

I really liked all the Missions, but god damn Situs Inversus (Hokkaido) Mastery Level 20 is not fun for me.

Eventhough it probably has the craziest assassinations.

How does one actually do the Tuppence A Wish Challenge on Bangkok?

Get as many coins as you can (you should be able to get 13), then go to the fountain in the Queen Suite (the one they're cleaning).

Throw all the coins into the fountain - some people think "tuppence" means you must bounce two coins off the back wall and make them each hit one of the rocks in the fountain. Other people swear it just works if you throw 13 coins any way you like into the fountain.

On one hand it's fun to plan new strategies for my favorite levels on Professional mode. On the other, there's no incentive as the rewards are useless/repeated.

I think I might just focus on trying to get silent assassin on them and nothing else.

Torben Ellert at IO confirms that we'll be seeing ETs in Bonus Episodes in this company interview, and confirms his favorite ET for the game:
a clown for nighttime Marrakech.

How out of place, yet interesting...

Watch that video to the end because they give away elusive target #20 in Hokkaido right there.

The Doctors, the first elusive target with optional objectives. You may kill both targets in any way, but you will not get a perfect rating unless you use specific kill methods.

I actually really want the crystal ball from Marrakesh - it sounds like it's the first non-illegal melee weapon you can unlock for the loadout, with the tradeoff being that it breaks after one use.

Hmm, wasn't there a melee weapon from Hokkaido's mastery that isn't detected in frisks?

The bat seems cool in a way, but, it seems like it'll be time consuming since you have to complete the mission to unlock the challenge, with only one save. Not really worth it.

Colorado unlocks the melee club that's not detected in frisks, and Hokkaido unlocks the melee club that is detected in frisks. But the thing is that both of them are illegal to carry openly (unless you're a guard), whereas the crystal ball looks like you can carry it openly. It should also be faster to use and throw than a club.

Also, I don't think the Colorado sniper rifle is just a reskin. The description is different in such a way that suggests the properties are tweaked too.

How Torben described the story and 47's character... he really gets it.

It's so fun listening to the dude. I cannot speak of his connections to prior games, and while I dislike the one-time nature of the Elusive Targets, I think he's been one of the best spokespersons for the game yet. Every time he talks, he's informative, he's clear, and he's specific.

There is something unique about it. People should try and use it...;)

About that video revealing details about elusive target #20 in Hokkaido: the contract will ask for "
poetic justice
" for the targets. What will that mean specifically?

One of the optional kill conditions could ask that you use a scalpel, representing malpractice. A scalpel would be easy neither to find, nor to use under elusive target pressure. It would also restrict the disguises you can safely use.

Poison might make sense for getting revenge on a doctor, but it wouldn't be much of a restriction since it's already many players' preferred method.

What else? Electrocution, representing misuse of defibrillators? Are we going to get to use the DDR pad for an elusive target?

Scissors, because one of the targets left scissors inside a patient during a surgery?

In Bangkok, does Morgan
sample different random food at the restaurant now? That's kinda lame, having to pick one and hope he eventually gets to it.

All in all, I'm not a big fan of them just putting in more suspicious NPCs to make the game harder. It makes it feel like Absolution.

It's always been that way with Morgan, if i recall correctly.

He has always
sampled a different dish each time he passes through the restaurant. People always did the poison as the first thing in a run because it's not actually random, so you always know which one he would sample first.

I found that it's actually pretty thoughtful which NPCs were made enforcers and for which disguises. In Paris, most low-tier disguises don't have to deal with many new enforcers, except certain guards near a handful of key locations. Helmut Kruger, on the other hand, gets a ton of enforcers added - this means you'll only be using him for one or two runs, so you're only dealing with the gauntlet once or twice as a special challenge.

When it's based on risk vs. reward, I think it works. Still need to put time into the rest of the levels to see how much that holds true.

Got around to playing Landslide. I have to say, I was not expecting
the custom death/animation for shoving him off the top of the bell tower. That was a pleasant surprise that got a laugh out of me.
