Hollow Knight SIlksong releases September 4

I hope they tightened this game up with all that time in the oven. The first felt so bloated and had some really goofy design decisions. Very curious to see impressions and reviews, might give the series another shot.

Watching this play out and seeing the hope fade from their eyes in the OT is my fetish.

Holy shit, that's like tomorrow.

I'll give it a fair shot but they better have fixed the boneheaded design decisions of the first game. No excuses!
Completely agree. I'm still mad that they make you waste a precious upgrade slot just so you can see your character on the fucking map. You should never have to pick between gameplay upgrades and QoL!

I should mention I am one of the retards buying this day one and I'm hyped as fuck to play it.

Watch the fire go out in real time. 🔥

Also, the trailer here is superb. The music, and the overall speed of the game? This is going to be good. If only they could've put it out 4 years ago to keep the momentum. It's hard not to think it went through development hell.

My only issue with sequels for games like this is I just don't really see a point to it because there's no story\world investment for me. It will essentially just be Hollow Knight DLC and frankly I just replayed through Hollow Knight like a few weeks ago and it's still great. I'll get it eventually but to much new stuff I want to play right now.

I'll give it a shot. I just can't resist teasing HK fans 😎

Hopefully, the size is a bit more manageable. I never made it to the end of the first one, it was a bit much in my opinion especially since you cannot take a break because you'll be absolutely lost.
Super Metroid had great pacing, a bit like a Resident Evil game, 10 ish hours for the first run at a relaxed pace and then can speedrun under 2.

Twice the length is ok, but not much more than that.

The whole point of a Metroidvania to me is to unlock permanent upgrades that make the game better. Having to pick and choose perks was a huge turnoff.

The original game has 3 things going for it.

1. Extremely long with varied biomes
2. Extremely difficult with bosses that act as progression blocks for not upgrading the nail(this is where most people quit)
3. Incredibly atmospheric similar to a bug Dark Souls in atmosphere

Why are you trying to take inches off by making it short? Fuck that. If you want a 2 hour metroidvania there are plenty of igavanias out already. This one is dark souls. Souls bros are claiming this one bub. I don't want another 4 hour metroidvania I can beat in an afternoon. I need meat. I want meat bro. This game better be longer than Hollow Knight.

Based on the long interview with the devs, seems like this is going to be better than the first one in just about every way.

Looking forward to playing it.

Having to use an item to see yourself on the map? Bouncing off enemies when you attack them and having to use an item to eliminate that? Bad pacing? Not always clear on where to go because some exit points are easy to miss?
Lol. I found all of those part of the game's idiosyncrasies that made it unique. Given the number of times I had to retry some areas, I often knew exactly where I'm going, and could give it up for something else. Same for that charm to prevent bouncing off, when I was focused on navigating or exploring, I could afford to give it up. I wouldn't know anything about pacing though, and perhaps that was an issue. Played it over 8 months so I couldn't tell one way or the other.

Hey, I'm clearly in the minority with Hollow Knight but I stand firm in my opinion.

Sept 4th:

Hollow Knight 2
Hell Is Us
Everybody's Golf Hot Shots

Sept 5th:

Cronos

I got Hell Is Us and Everybody's Golf preordered. Will probably get the other two eventually.

I'm a fan too, but I don't think it's the best Metroidvania. (That's SOTN)

But I LOVE fucking with the HK community too. Poor bastards are as defeated as Bloodborne 2 fans lmao. At least HK fans are actually getting their game at long last.

I'll play and complete it like I did the first but it's very much a DLC looking sequel. I don't want to see any Team Cherry fans in Nintendo threads moaning about how MKW looks like MK8.

What's also amazing about OG Hollow Knight is how much optional content there is. Exploration becomes really fun because there are a ton of optional areas, bosses, upgrades, etc.
In a game like Metroid Dread you get to a secret area and it's an empty room with a generic upgrade. In Hollow Knight you often get to a secret area and it's a whole new location with a unique look, unique enemies, a unique boss battle and sometimes unique upgrades.

I played the game for like 45 hours and thought I had seen everything. Then I was watching some lore videos later on and I was really surprised seeing some locations and bosses I didn't encounter.

Loved the first game! Can't wait to play the sequel.

For those that haven't played it: The mix of action with good feeling combat and exploration without a map (until reaching a bench) was a very fun combination. No handholding, just a big world to explore and uncover on your own, and quite BIG unlike most metroidvanias that can be finished in 8 hours or less. I think that's what sets it apart, most metroidvanias are kinda linear in their progression but HK lets you get lost while still making progress towards something.

And the fact that the game has been developed by a bunch of passionate dudes instead of a corporation looking to make money as fast as possible is the icing on the cake.

Why the hell does everything have to come out in September? It's way too stacked atm.
I'm gone almost every week in September for work traveling. Which sucks the fattest set of dicks because I won't be able to finish:
MGS3 Delta (day one)
Shinobi (day one)
Silent Hill F (day one)
Cronos (day one)
Borderlands 4
Hollow Knight (day one)
Hell is us
Dying Light The Beast
Trails in the Sky
FF Tactics Remaster (day one)
Daemon X Machina
Alien rogue incursion

Like are you fucking serious!?

I'm going through this with CrossCode right now. There's some sweet spot, some line, that both games step over for my personal tastes. Both games feel the same in a way where when I discover some new sprawling area with ten side quests again, I groan and feel exhausted instead of thrilled. I can't tell you why even because the first Dark Souls is probably my favorite game ever and I never felt that way.

Some games just feel like too much of a good thing to me. Like going to a buffet with amazing food and you keep shoving shit down your gullet after you're full because well, it's there.

But again, like Mr Kacho ova hea, just my two cents. I just read they sold 15mil and good as fuck on them, not every game has to be for me. I'm still curious about Silksong and do kind of wanna try it at this point.

I was looking at some of these other games too and they just got punted to the "maybe later on sale" pile with this announcement. It'll suck away my full gaming attention for a good while.

I'm all in for the two I mentioned. I'll get Cronos and this some day though probably. I'm mainly waiting on this cause I never finished the first one and now I want to start it over on the Steam Deck.
