Hollow Knight SIlksong releases September 4

OMFG

Sorry Hell is Us, releases the same day, made by a friend of mine, super hyped to play it, but Silksong goes first
Sorry Everything, for me. Even if it's "just more of the same" it will get me to drop everything.

Only 2 weeks away!

I just went through Hollow Knight this summer, didn't reach 112% but still satisfied with 108% completion rate. Today it's my all-time #3, only behind Super Metroid and Elden Ring. The more I did the more I understood how perfect it is. Only thing I disliked was that getting voidheart killed my chances of seeing all endings, had no idea it made one ending unreachable. Hoping for no such scenario in Silksong.

This trailer already hit 1.4M views in just 3 hours and 317K likes. :D No way this doesn't sell a few million copies within days.

Possibly the most overrated game I have EVER played is FINALLY getting its follow up. And thank god for that! I was sick of hearing when this game would finally come out (not saying the original is shit, but greatest metroidvania of all time is the kind of shit I heard and that is laughable).

Hollow Knight is perfectly rated. It's an amazing game.

The fact that there are some divisive elements is a good thing. There are hundreds of Metroidvanias out there and many are formulaically similar. Don't like HK? Go play something that doesn't subscribe to the same design and aesthetic nuances.

Can't fucking wait! What a surprise! Hollow Knight is one of the greatest games ever made and the pinnacle of Metroidvania. Respectfully, this is one of the only instances where I just don't understand a single criticism the first game received. I don't know what people want? It's an incredibly massive, meaty, challenging, atmospheric adventure that's is brilliantly designed.

Years ago I started with the first game, after hearing all that praise. Two hours in and it didn't click at all. Eventually came back and gave it a lot more hours because fans kept telling me you HAVE to get through a few hours and it will become amazing.

Must have been ten hours or more and it never became amazing, fun? Yes, nothing too crazy though. I took a break and never came back to it. If it takes a game more than 10 or so hours to really become great......that's just not good.

It's day uno, but not particularly excited about it.

I can predict it's going to be GOTY though. Journalists know how players love the first one and waited for this one, and it seems to be the perfect time to make an indie game GOTY so they can make it a big thing with a whole narrative behind it about good working conditions for the devs, and ethic in the work environment, and the importance of indie games in our industry, they're going to yap endlessly.

Spot on. Instead of a deserving game getting the GOTY they'll give it to this indie darling for all the reasons you mentioned.

i'm not saying it would be especially undeserved, i mean the whole concept of goty and the folklore surrounding it is dumb anyway imo, to me it's probably a contender amongst a lot of other games that are too different to be compared

but given Clair Obscur is the only game with a similar hype this year, i think they have the opportunity to make it happen so they can write a lot of things about it

Depends on how long it stays in the conversation. People thought Tears of the Kingdom would be the shoo-in for 2023 but it was clear that Baldur's Gate 3 kept better mindshare for a longer time.

This year? We've had some pretty massive titles but the one that keeps getting talked about is Expedition 33 which is like the AA underdog darling that will slay Indiana Jones, Monster Hunter, Donkey Kong, Kingdom Come, Death Stranding, and now (potentially) Silksong.

People forget that 2025 is stacked.

And TotK should've won. BG3 is great, but it's no where near the experience TotK. Both harken to their foundation titles, but TotK does a much better job evolving it.

From my Kickstarter email

Gang! It's been a while, but we're back with big news!

Hollow Knight: Silksong is releasing on September 4th! And we've put together a release trailer to celebrate. Check it out here:

It's been a long journey, and we're almost at the finish line, but before release we've one major task left to do: Deliver you your keys!

We'll be reaching out in the (very) near future to find out your platforms of choice and the best email addresses to send your copy/s. Keys will be provided as either PC (Steam & DRM free) or Nintendo Switch (Nintendo Switch & Nintendo Switch 2).

We've had an absolute blast crafting these giant insect worlds, and none of this would have been possible without your support right there at the very beginning. Thank you all so much, and speak soon!

Best,
TC

I love you

Also : I love Metroidvanias but the 1st game just didn't do it for me, it was too hard, too big and IMO it didn't respect the player's time since power-up abilities were spread too far apart and it was easy to get lost in it's huge world aka the backtracking was insane.
A good, well made game that was - IMO - incredibly overhyped...

...people apparently loved it though so what do I know eh ?

Honestly after playing Rain World every metroidvania seems too basic and rudimentary to me.

I recommend everybody check out Rain World, that game was/is ahead of its time in it's design and AI implementation, nothing compares imho

Rain world is really not a metroidvania though. I love the game but its its own genre really. Unga bunga rock and spears apocalypse ecosystem where everything wants to kill you. Survival platformer is more fitting.

I liked the origional game, but I wasn't sucked in like so many, apparently. I will play this though. September is kinda busy already, so it might be put on hold for a bit.

Because the game is great and a few jaded contrarians aren't going to change that. :lollipop_content:
I'll give it a shot but I think most jaded contrarians have no intention of buying it to begin with and given it's massive cult classic status I think it'll do quite well. If 15 million bought it and are waiting a large amount will buy this too.

And reading around a couple forums seems to imply price point is probably going to be around $25 or so dollars and given the game is supposedly as big as Hollow Knight I think that's more then a fair price.

Who knows maybe I'll like it and play the first one afterward.

Hope you do! I loved that game. Nice and challeging combat, lots of exploration and 0 handholding. Sure the beggining might be a bit slower and worse since you barely have any skills but imo it becomes better the more you play.
